Slapping a Pair of Boobs Onto Your Political IdeologySubmitted by BILL3 on Mon, 12/02/2013 - 16:37
(I know, titillating title.)
Some free advice for politically minded people: Just don't do it. It's embarrassing.
If you happen to have a large pair of boobs already and want to make political videos, more power to you.
But going out and finding a pair of boobs to try to sell your politics should be beneath serious people.
Political strife has a long and storied history, a greatness and magnificence to it. The struggles of people to order human society in law and freedom against all the obstacles of our nature and divisions is really something great. It is full of genuineness, genuine characters, passions, pains and triumphs.
From the great philosophical battles of antiquity to the social wars that led to Caesar, to the spiritual strife that culminated in Christ.
The wars of Church and Kings, the rise of free cities and parliaments. Religious reformations, scientific enlightenment, the battles for political representation of oppressed Estates.
Revolution, representative government. The birth of republican government for the first time since ancient Rome.
The abolition of slavery. The rise of industrial machines and urban masses. The slide into democracy and modernity, mass politics and manipulation through mass media and marketing.
The world wars, the welfare state, the collapse of faith in western life. The rise of ideological modernity and its bastard children of communism, fascism and social democracy.
The ascendancy of the corporation, globalism, the American empire, the new police state. The reign of mass marketing and consumer management in every facet of public life.
All of this has taken place, and continues to unfold, without the crass marketing ploy of having a pair of boobs reading (boring) political diatribes on video sharing sites. Until now.
Call me old fashioned, but if this is what we are reduced to, we might as well just give up. No social force will come of this.
Every political campaign and ideological variant is using this same tactic since at least 07. Trying to sell ideas or catch voters with some hired set of cans. Its an embarrassment to everyone involved.
The one actually healthy, growing social phenomenon that is alive and well outside of the State (whether your like them or not), i.e. evangelicals, gets by quite well without trying to sell itself with Axe-commercial level marketing.
Rather than copying the Obama PR machines tactics or aping fox news' (big boobed blonde) strategy of hawking neoconservatism, we should take a page from history, or from those movements around the world today that are growing, like the resistance movements in the middle east or evangelicals in America.
They are bringing in young people and families, and making real political gains, having a political and educational existence and institutions outside the state.
And they are not relying on gimmicky, tired marketing strategies to promote obscure ideologies with no existence outside internet forums (anarchism) with fake gun props and tight tops.
Please, if all else has to fall to lowest common denominator commercial advertising and phoniness, at least let underground politics be spared of this soul-dead tripe. What's next, product placement?
