Saw Part 2 last night. Wow!

Blown away at how much "anti-authoritarian" subject matter there is in these films!

And all these young teenie boppers that are attracted to these films are having these seeds planted in their minds to better understand and be aware of our state of affairs.

I never read the books, which are apparently even more graphic than the "PG" watered down movies, but this 2nd film is really great! It's no Twilight BS either. No offence to Twilight fans :)

I highly recommend all Freedom loving people go see it.

The real Spartacus was not

The real Spartacus was not like the mythologized figure created later (18th cent) and adopted by communists as a sort of archetype of revolution and egalitarianism.

From da wiki, citing Florus (2.8.8) "who from Thracian mercenary, had become a Roman soldier, of a soldier a deserter and robber, and afterward, from consideration of his strength, a gladiator". [Florus, Epitome of Roman History 2.8]

Although nothing was cut and dried back then (anymore than now) in terms of the justness of 'justice system,' this was basically a prison break. The gladiators were largely condemned criminals who looted, plundered and committed atrocities after the escape.

No historian I have read reports any political motivation to end slavery by those in the revolt. They did pretty much what you'd expect if there was some mass mass security prison break of guys on death row that got access to military weapons.

"They went north, then south, then north again. They ransacked small towns, murdered farmers, raped their wives and daughters.

Spartacus killed all prisoners. In a mocking turn of events, he pitted captured Roman soldiers against each other in gladiatorial fights to the death."

Master Pretzel Twister

Katniss is a great tool

to form a initial rapport with young people.

Use her to teach Liberty.

i agree katniss is a tool..

Master Pretzel Twister

Not Quite...

She's a fictional character created by Suzanne Collins and portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence.

Spartacus however was a real dude "Spartacus (Greek: Σπάρτακος, Spártakos; Latin: Spartacus[1]) (c. 109–71 BC) was a Thracian gladiator, who, along with the Gauls Crixus, Oenomaus, Castus and Gannicus, was one of the slave leaders in the Third Servile War, a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic."

You simply must read Joseph Campbell's 'The Power of Myth'

Part 1 of 6-part series on PBS:

Potential Annualized National Debt Allowance - a look at 40 years of PANDA next Pandaline - weekdays central time

Been a Joe Campbell fan...

...for a long time. Good to see him get some respect on here.

Work for pay, pay for freedom
Fuck 'em all, we don't need 'em

I remember watching that series with great interest.

Thanks for the video link! Must see it again!

simply brilliant!

"Power of Myth" was the last Christmas gift I gave my aging parents before they passed away. Campbell really gets it!

Hunger Games

A rock and a hard place. A democrat told me that it is the republicans fault for all of this country's ails. I explained the duopoly, that there are those of us who advocate Liberty, Freedom, smaller government intrusion/interference. Still in disagreement, the person will vote hillary if she runs.

So, let the Hunger Games begin.

That's nothing. I know Republicans who would vote for Hillary

if she got the GOP nomination!

It's not that they want to vote for her, or think she'd be the better option or do the country any good, but rather they would feel that would be their "only choice" when faced with her Democrat opponent. (whomever that may be) Their vote is always to "prevent" the Democrat from winning. They consider all Democrats Satan incarnate.

I suspect your friend is the other side of that same stupidity coin. Would she have voted for Romney if he ran as a Democrat and Hillary (or Obama) had run as a Republican?

I can one up even that. I

I can one up even that. I know RINOs who like Hillary because she is a war hawk and has "balls".

So she's no different than most Republicans I know.

Save they simply think Democrats are the ones at fault for all the country's ailments.

The reality is that it is the fault of BOTH parties. They both swear upon the Word of God to preserve protect and defend a document that outlines a system of government and severely limits their power, and maybe 1 in 1000 have ever read even a full sentence of it. (not to speak of any real understanding of its provisions and WHY they were included)

I hear this and simply point

I hear this and simply point to states and cities that have a huge democratic control such as say California and Detroit.

"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."

I like to ask what specific

I like to ask what specific issues they have with Republicans, then show how democrats have done have exact same thing.

I do as well.

Some consider. Most are like brick walls.

Even a brick wall will give with enough effort. Some of these

folks are more stubborn and stupid than a brick wall.

Can't argue that.
