The next CRITICAL hurdle - Iowa 8/11 Straw Poll
Friday, Pat Buchanan wrote an article, http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=56079
about Rudy and John not wanting to be in Iowa's 8/11 straw poll. Two months from now. What if Ron Paul had a strong showing? What will it take? If he gets strong support here, I think he will just build on the momentum. And there should be enough Iowans annoyed at the GrinOP to help. Any suggestions?

What are the mechanics of the Iowa straw poll - can antiwar Democrats crossover and vote for antiwar Dr. Paul vs pro-war Romney?
Is Iowa a blue state or a red state? pro or anti abortion?

Questions about the poll
I don't know anything about the straw poll. Must you be an Iowan to participate? Does the poll actually decide something? I heard Ron Paul isn't campaigning much in Iowa, concentrating on New Hampshire and Arizona instead.
importance of the straw poll
I was around for the straw poll in 2005 preceeding the 2006 Hawkeye Cauci. It is all about a show of 'force' in how many of your dedicated people your campaign has that are willing to sit in a bus for 2 -3 hours to get there and back. Is your campaign organized enough to rent the busses and herd the flock there. Does the campaign have the dollars to pay for the entry ticket/donation? It separates the wheat from the chaff. (Arlen Spector received eight votes, as I recall, out of about (?) 14,000.)
I saw firsthand the miraculous 'tie' in votes between Grahm and Doll. (Yes that was the first year they used 'electronic' voting machines, and it did take an inordinate amount of time to 'deliver' the results to the hooting crowd.) I'm not saying, I'm just saying...
Gov. Romney will have the dollars and staffing to make an event. IF Dr. Paul's campaign can pull an upset, it will be huge and people will start to take notice because it would be the first statewide test of how the campaign converts 'internet' support into warm cheeks in the seats.
Get your donation to Dr. Paul by the end of the month to make sure his quarterly report puts him ahead of Señor McCain.
addendum
If I could add an addendum...
On reason it's difficult to campaign in Iowa is that everything is spread out. It's a decent ride between population centers with a whole lot of pavement between stops.
You have to have a solid core of people that are willing to give up a whole day to drive to Ames, eat buffet chicken, sit though speeches, vote, the make the long ride home.
Is it fair to say Dr. Paul has more "hardcore" supporters than any other candidate? The Iowa staff needs $$ and support to make this a big event.
