I understand many are new to this. But please do your due diligence before leading other libertarians astray with your ignorance.

he's full of it

he tried to say all trans could be tracked to an ip which is bs. there is some ip logging but it is a guess at best and not something a court would take as evidence. plus you can run tor and totally get around it.

i'm sure dark wallet will take care of it automatically without tor.

Ok so he is working with

Ok so he is working with government to try to legitimize some EXCHANGES. I am guessing that they will tell you that in the privacy disclaimer or some other disclaimer, So READ the disclaimer and if the exchange that you are looking to work with works woth government in a way that you don't like then dont work with that exchange. This isn't rocket science.

I made a video on what you should do with your bitcoins

Ron brought the Liberty movement together, Rand is expanding the crap out of it! :)

Your headline is misleading

He says he's working with the government, as in, complying with regulations. Do you really miss that distinction?

thanks

These posts are embarrassing. I don't understand why we don't hold ourselves to a higher standard here. This forum is looked on as a joke by many people including libertarians.

Anytime you convert USD online to anything, the government can access a record of it. Especially if it's a financial instrument. And this core developer just said Bitcoin exchanges should comply with the law. And he was stating it in context with the hysteria over Silk Road in 2011.

How this is controversial is only explained in a conspiratorial mind.

i'm not so sure about that

your post is a bit confusing but you can buy btc with moneypak and
remain anonymous. i'm not sure if that's what you're saying though.
if you go through an exchange then yes they potentially could. most exchanges are not in this country (top 3) and if they wanted to check on someone they would need a warrant. i'm not sure how that would work in other countries and i suppose they are all different. unless they really have it out for you and you because you committed some serious crime they probably won't bother with 99% of the people. they simply don't have the resources to target everyone, only the big fish and serious criminal they know they have a good case on.

The first paragraph was

The first paragraph was referencing the linkbait articles with distorted out context implications.

And of course you can buy bitcoins anonymously. But the only way to get them in untraceable in USD, is to do it in person. However, there is a big misconception that if someone buys bitcoins on an exchange that their transactions are somehow anonymous. They aren't.

not necessarily

you can buy a moneypak (anonymously) at walmart or 7-11 etc and then go online and trade the mpk for btc anonymously. that's how i got my first btc's.

It seems you are missing the point

I feel you are missing the entire point of crypto-currency, that is not ever returning to US Dollars. Using them exclusively to purchase goods and services.

This is the path to how we End the FED by ignoring the FED, thus eliminating the need to wait an eternity to elect "good" politicians merely trying to secure even a full audit of the cartel.

The day is coming when the headlines will scream: Such-and-Such Crypto-Currency processes more transactions than USD.

This will be a most glorious day.

I believe the point was to

I believe the point was to eliminate transaction fees and fight against central banks debasing the currency.

To be an effective currency, you're going to have to enable it to be traded to other currencies. Once you do that, then more merchants will accept them, and then your scenario could be possible.

Developer of what?

The title might be construed as suggesting this "developer" in question was part and parcel of developing / implementing Bitcoin. Unless I'm seriously mistaken, this is not the claim, nor the case.
I am not surprised individuals such as this "developer" are conversing with "officials" to be above board / transparent with the government about their activities and intentions, and therefore not to be in conflict. The topic of "bitcoin" is new to the officials. And so I see this individual as working with the government to develop policies that facilitates use of bitcoin in adherence to domestic laws. I would suggest that developing policies is entirely different from developing bitcoin software.
I appreciate that tptb will try to find an angle, and maybe "go with it" for now with the hopes of "leading us to somewhere". However, the domestic policies implemented are only applicable to it's citizens, not to bitcoin software itself. As such, bitcoin will remain as is, regardless of national policies.

Takeaway

Help the DarkWallet initiative

Use Second Life to exchange $ into Linden then into BitCoin

Avoid any and all projects associated with Jeff Garzik who enjoys helping government through establishing the exchanges as compliant with "PATRIOT Act" and "Know Your Customer" laws.

Enjoys helping government?

Because he's trying to follow the law? How is that different from my credit union?

If he's in league with the bad guys, nothing posted in this thread so far, including the OP, remotely demonstrates it.

Letting TSA put their hands in your pants means you enjoy it? Is compliance with law complicity, like he lives ten miles from Auschwitz? We definitely should be very clear when we reach that moment. This is it?

Unjust Laws

It is duty to disobey unjust laws, and laws like Know Your Customer, Mandatory Suspicious Activity Reports, economic wide transaction monitoring by multiple US, Inc. agencies are abhorrent laws, and yes anyone in my opinion who works to be compliant with THOSE laws is absolutely not a friend to Liberty.
