Rand Paul Trying to ‘Persuade’ His Wife to Let Him Run for President in 2016 (VIDEO)

by Matt Wilstein | 2:28 pm, December 6th, 2013

At the very end of a question and answer session following a speech he gave at the Detroit Economic Club on Friday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) let slip some hints about his plans for 2016. The final question came from a student, but as the questioner said it was also what “everyone in the audience wants to know”: “What are you plans for running for president in 2016?”

“Where’s my cellphone? Can I call my wife?” Paul joked as he attempted to deflect the inquiry. “There’s two votes in my family, and my wife has both of them, and both are no votes right now.” However, Paul did say that he would try to “persuade” his wife to change her mind by next year, something he said would prove he’s an “able politician.”

As the Washington Post’s Aaron Blake noted, Kelly Paul expressed her strong opinions on the matter in a recent Vogue profile. “In this day and age it’s mostly about character assassination,” she said. “When I think of the tens of millions of dollars in opposition research that they’d be aiming right at us and our family—that’s what it’s about.”

Why he is not going for Governor of TX 2014. We could sure use him here.

You mean Kentucky....

right?

Haha, I didn't read correctly

When I see Paul I automatically think Ron. I need to slow down a little I guess :) But I sure would love for Rand to be Governor of TX if that were possible.

Come on, Mrs. Paul!

Pretty please???

Release the Sandy Hook video.

I love Kelly Paul

I love the Paul family.. I really do, even Jesse Benton (because he made far less than Obama's camoaugn treasurer(not chiar) by over $7 million.)

The Paul's are brilliant, and at this point politically, they are the best hope we have for America; However, since he has a campaign for Senate.. and he would have to abandon that.. it's a big risk, and he could WE could, lose him as Senate and president (because we all know the game is rigged and will remain rigged until we create and establish our own campaigns (businesses) to push through the party, off the floor and into chairs.

No matter how it goes, I enjoy the Paul family as people.

"he would have to abandon [the senate]" - Not Exactly

There have been conflicting statements floating around lately, so I thought I'd try to clear things up a bit. By 4pm on January 24th 2016, Rand will have to file to run in either the Senate primary or the Presidential primary - Kentucky law prevents him from doing both. But he has two good options for getting around the rule.

1. He could file to run in the Senate primary, and not file to run in the Presidential primary. He could continue to run for President in the GOP primary nationwide, just not in Kentucky. This means he would give up KY's delegates, but that's not a big deal because KY comes very late in the process and is unlikely to decide the outcome. This is probably the best option, and the one I expect Rand to choose.

2. He could file to run in the Presidential primary, but not in the Senate primary. He could still run for re-election to the Senate, but he'd have to run as an independent. Not a bad option, but there's a risk of the neocons putting up a strong GOP candidate, thus splitting the vote, and handing Kentucky's Senate seat to the Democrats.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

I understand

Rand has options on paper. Does he have the people to run two campaigns?

You may not think it's not a big deal, but ask a Ron Paul delegate, someone who earned it, to be told. "No thanks".. it gets you.

I don't agree with you about running as an Indy, because as a GOP treasurer (dealing with the IRS through the SOS, County and various committees and departments who want information just so and just when, I now see elections very differently than I ever did.. and you need a team, a team you can trust thick and thin because as you know it's crazy. Try being on the inside.. and then you will have another angle why third party's and indy's are NOT where it's at, IF you have a message you want materiailzed through legislation. Rand is going to need back up insude,,, what indy is insude anything?

Like Ron Paul.. Rand is not going to appease voters.. you either are going to get on the GOP Paul bus.. or do what you want (and DP proove, doing what you want works too) :).

Sad

“When I think of the tens of millions of dollars in opposition research that they’d be aiming right at us and our family—that’s what it’s about.”

Free includes debt-free!

And possibly even more sadly

is how much of that opposition research will be coming from his own party? I want Rand to run, but I certainly understand his wifes position, just look at what they did to Ron.

No crying in baseball

...or politics. It's a big boy's game. Pick up and dust off. Saddle up.
