Requiem for the Masses - Association

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jah4eqzYjvQ

Lyrics

Requiem Aeternum Requiem Aeternum

Momma momma forget your pies
Have faith they won't get cold
And turn your eyes to the bloodshot sky
Your flag is flying full at half-mast
For the matadors who turned their backs to please the crowd
And all fell before the bull

Red was the color of his blood flowing thin
Pallid white was the color of his lifeless skin
Blue was the color of the morning sky
from the ground where he died
It was the last thing that was seen by him

Kyrie Eleison

Momma momma forget your pies
Have faith they won't get cold
And turn your eyes to the bloodshot sky
Your flag is flying full at half-mast
For the matadors who turned their backs to please the crowd
And all fell before the bull

Black and white were the figures that recorded him
Black and white was the newsprint he was mentioned in
Black and white was the question that so bothered him
He never asked he was taught not to ask
But was on his lips as they buried him

Rex Tremendae Majestatis

Requiem aeternum Requiem aeternum

Not necessarily my fav but it deserves mention IMO

"Holiday in Cambodia" by the Dead Kennedys.

Tom Paxton

Lyndon Johnson Told the Nation

Great anti-war song. Also close runner up is Phil Ochs with I ain't marchin' anymore.

The founders would be ashamed at us for what we are putting up with.

Still my all time favorite:

Another good one:

We all share this eternally evolving present moment- The past and future only exist as inconsequential mental fabrications.

here's an odd one

it's difficult to find a modern one.

just found this one

Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake and Palmer

Seems this song takes a sarcastic/opposite approach to warfare with a delicate guitar and soft lyrics. And tells a story of a man who has it all, then goes off to a war and he dies ... such a Lucky Man.

I'm a younger guy and just recently discovered this song but it seems to fit the topic. Great chords, a good story that fits and makes me sad thinking about our boys abroad.

War is not glamorous like it's advertised. Most don't get it yet ...

Not sure if this song has been uploaded already, seems there's a huge song list already but it should be included. Cause it's a great song, enjoy.

Peacefully yours,

Primus - Too Many Puppies (mentioned by Sheepherder911)

Damn, got to the second from last page in the comments thinking I had a good one that hadn't been mentioned. Sheepherder911 ruined my fun! So here's the video.

"Woodstock" when it says..."And I dreamed I saw the bombers...

...riding shotgun in the sky
Turning into butterflies above our nation...

We are stardust - We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden"

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

The Turtles

OK, various of my favorites have been mentioned -

Sam Stone -John Prine

Volunteers - Jefferson Airplane

Masters of War - Dylan

Fortunate Son - Credence Clearwater

"Eve of Destruction" is a classic, of course, but not
many people are familiar with this version by the Turtles:

Bar Kays . . .

. . . because you'd have to be pretty twisted to want to kill with this groove going on.

When A Soldier Makes It Home - Arlo Guthrie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpxUozEqKUA

Halfway around the world tonight
In a strange and foreign land
A soldier packs his memories
As he leaves Afghanistan
And back home they don't know too much
There's just no way to tell
I guess you had to be there
For to know that war was hell

And there won't be any victory parades
For those that's coming back
They'll fly them in at midnight
And unload the body sacks
And the living will be walking down
A long and lonely road
Because nobody seems to care these days
When a soldier makes it home

They'll say it wasn't easy
Just another job well done
As the government in Kabul falls
To the sounds of rebel guns
And the faces of the comrades
Being blown out of the sky
Leaves you bitter with the feeling
That they didn't have to die

And there won't be any victory parades
For those that's coming back
They'll fly them in at midnight
And unload the body sacks
And the living will be walking down
A long and lonely road
Because nobody seems to care these days
When a soldier makes it home

Halfway around the world tonight
In a strange and foreign land
A soldier unpacks memories
That he saved from Vietnam
Back home they didn't know too much
There was just no way to tell
I guess you had to be there
For to know that war was hell

And there wasn't any big parades
For those that made it back
They flew them in at midnight
And unloaded all the sacks
And the living were left walking down
A long and lonely road
Because nobody seemed to care back then
When a soldier made it home

The night is coming quickly
And the stars are on their way
As I stare into the evening
Looking for the words to say
That I saw the lonely soldier
Just a boy that's far from home
And I saw that I was just like him
While upon this earth I roam

And there may not be any big parades
If I ever make it back
As I come home under cover
Through a world that can't keep track
Of the heroes who have fallen
Let alone the ones who won't
Which is why nobody seems to care
When a soldier makes it home

*Wisconsin Constitution* Article I, Section 25 "The people have the right to keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other law-abiding purpose"

"Disposable Heroes" Metallica

Lyrics:

Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend
Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all
Victims of what said should be
A servant `till I fall

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Do just as we say
Finished here, greetings death
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman

Barking of machine gun fire, does nothing to me now
Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you bare, glory seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see
The slaughter never ends

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Do just as we say
Finished here, greetings death
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman

Why, am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, hell is here

Why, am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, hell is here

I was born for dying

Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
Had no chance to see myself, moulded day by day
Looking back I realize, nothing have I done
Left to die with only friend
Alone I clench my gun

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Do just as we say
Finished here, greetings death
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman

Back to the front
Back to the front
Back to the front
Back to the front
Back to the front
