The U.S. Army At Camp Shelby: Don't Say Christmas

By Todd Starnes /
Published December 24, 2013 / FoxNews.comDon’t say Christmas.

That’s the message that was conveyed to a group of soldiers at Camp Shelby by an equal opportunity officer from the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, according to a soldier who attended a recent briefing.

“It’s unbelievable that the Army would ban ‘Christmas’ like it’s a bad word,” said Michael Berry, an attorney with the Liberty Institute, a legal firm representing the unidentified soldier.

Two weeks ago, a routine meeting was held at the Mississippi base with various leaders of the 158th Infantry Brigade. During the meeting, they discussed an upcoming Christmas football tournament. The equal opportunity officer immediately objected to the usage of the word “Christmas.”

Probably been on the naughty list so long they've given up

I have no problem with an

I have no problem with an army-sponsored Christmas football tournmanet, but they better have a Hanukkah latke eating tournament if people want it.

It's similar to that issue going in some state (can't remember which) that has a group trying to get a statue of the flying spaghetti monster (privately funded) to be put up with the ten commandments.

Just curious

...does the same thing apply for mentioning Hanukkha, or Kwanzaa?

Please explain Kwanzaa and it's origins..

I will wait patiently.

Kwaanza! LOL! Nobody celebrates it!

Ask around. It's something the media thinks they need to acknowledge.

How bout we try:

"Happy Holy Nativity" or "Happy Jesus's birthday "or " Happy Messiah's Day" , I feel no need to mention the now meaningless and ambiguous " merry" or "Christmas"

With all due respect, I will no longer be a voting prostitute for Constitution rejecting harlots.

humbugdiddly to you too. :)

The clip posted above is

The clip posted above is mis-leading. He was objecting to placing christmas in the title of an event. Separation of church and state. Is following the constitution a bad thing now?:)

I suppose the writers of that Constitution

were absolute hypocrites - they celebrated Christmas (study the history of Christmas celebrations of the presidents) - Christmas was made a national holiday in 1876...What idiots they must have been - those writers- incapable of interpreting their own Constitution.
Immediately following their own writings at that. Tsh. Tsh.
How thankful we all should be for our increased IQ's and comprehension abilities- and that our modern government is so much more adept at interpreting our 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, etc. amendments and protecting our Constitutional freedoms written by our stupid forefathers.
Ya know, they even had Congressional prayers. OMG - how did we ever survive those archaic thinkers who didn't honor their own ideas?
I feel so safe now, don't you?

Some of them were slaveholders...

...so they were not infallible. We had to live with their mistakes for a long time. Some of those mistakes are still with us...

No-one but Paul!

Human infallibility is a given.

No one claimed perfection - only a comparison of two governmental mindsets - one of 1776 and the other of 2013. I'll take 1776- you can have today.

The Constitution simply needs to be upheld - as written - to provide equal freedoms for all (which ended slavery) - not blatantly ignored as it is today.
Which is my point exactly - follow the Constitution and all will probably go well.

Perhaps our current government mindset could rewrite our Constitution more to your liking? God forbid.

Sadly your brain is malfunctioning:(

I never liked DEOMI

Never heard of 'em either, so figures right?

BOOM!

That's cool actually, I should do it more.

Nice try.

And it says you can not mention Christmas in the title of army events where exactly in the Constitution?

Merry Christmas Emperor Mathew!

Tax dollars supporting

Tax dollars supporting religious events is clearly in violation of the first amendment. Perhaps you should give the constitution a re-read.

And The B.S Meter Rises!

First Amendment:

"CONGRESS shall make no LAW respecting an ESTABLISHMENT of religion, or prohibiting the FREE EXERCISE thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"

It does not even keep the the President from proclaiming a 'National Day Of Prayer' such as we used to have.

What is the problem here? Do

What is the problem here? Do you not know the definition of law?

Law:: the principles and regulations established in a community by some authority and applicable to its people, whether in the form of legislation or of custom and policies recognized and enforced by judicial decision.

Sigh why I bother even talking to you humans is beyond me. America number 1!!!!!!

CONGRESS!

lol so the power is derived

lol so the power is derived from congress. Stop being such a simpleton. There many supreme court cases you can review that will walk you through the process of understanding.

Who needs them?

I showed you the First Amendment. The Supremes contradict themselves all the time.

Yeah you posted something I

Yeah you posted something I know by heart and read it with the mind of a child. The power is derived from congress...

So I need to be a lawyer?

Yes it does, and that's why

Yes it does, and that's why religious people should stop trying to fund their religious affairs with tax money.

nice!

sometimes the simple truth ..just speaks volumes!
