Upcycled Fire Pit I Made For My Mom

There are so many things in my father's shop that I could repurpose if I had the time and a little more knowledge; I'm kind of a rookie!

Here is a custom fire pit I made for my mother for Christmas.

It's made from an old, heavy duty wheel rim and an even older wheel from a wagon from the 1800's as the foot rest. A smaller 15" rim was cut and used for the base.

Nice

Looks better than the ones they sell. I bet people would order those.

Very inventive and really cool.

I`ve seen the Mexicans make a food cooker out of a disc harrow disc but your deal is much more complex and inventive.

Nice

job Rob. Some of the best gifts are handmade and yours will last a lifetime. Your mom must be stoked (pun intended;)
Very cool that you "repurposed" those materials as well. It's been fun following your adventures in homesteading down there. (we have a lease by Dilly) You will have arrived when you are grilling some backstrap and veggies from your garden...8)

Very well done, Granger.

Hey Robhino, how's the balance when it's just one set of feet perched up on the bar? How heavy is it?

It looks awesome!

good question

And it does look awesome.. add a peace sign, stand with Rand or other krome decal and offer 10% to a campaign and a start up business is born.

wow, I am impressed

Looks awesome

Very Cool!

How many hours did it take?

It took me the better part of 3 days....

...but, a lot of that time was scavenging to find the right pieces to use and messing with old equipment that always messes up!

Aww

what a nice son! I'm living the low-carb lifestyle, and my son gave me a giant box of chocolates for Christmas, LOL.

How sweet, LOL.

I have a favor to ask of you.

Would you please post some higher quality images of your Revolution Car Badges or please send them to me in a private message so I could create better quality computer icons from them, for personal use?

I regularly use custom icons for my computer. I previously photoshopped your Peace & Stand With Rand badges, converted them to Mac icon format then used them for my MacBook Pro Finder icon.

These are strictly used by me for personal use, I haven't distributed them anywhere. Any new icons that are better quality would also be strictly used by me for personal use.

But if they look good, if you'd like, I could also give you a copy of the icons in Mac + Windows format that you could also use, post for free, sell or license, obviously without compensating me.

I am not a graphic design professional, but if I have some higher quality stock images I could probably edit them into decent quality icons. They're inspiration.

Either way, thank you. :)

That is awesome!

Very cool indeed. Interesting how many resources we have if we just use a little creativity to put them into use.

This has me in the mood to watch some smelting and bullet making.

Your mom is a lucky lady

BTW what is that COE looking thing in the pic next to the vise, is it a 70's GMC? I think I am addicted to your dads shop!

It's my bro's work truck he's trying to fix up...

On second look, it's not a COE

but what is it anyway?

Smart

I like the footrest. Good job, looks well made.

These are a few examples of the kind of fire pit I want to buy when I have a proper yard.

That's no

rookie job.

Nice

Nice but a Question

What prevents some drunken loser from putting his clodhopper up on the outer ring and toppling the whole thing over?

Garan's picture

Darwin.

;)

No "drunken losers" mingle...

No "drunken losers" mingle around at my mom's house, and the base is wide enough to prevent it from tipping over. It's freaking HEAVY! The center of gravity is very low.

I suppose if someone decides to do the Captain Morgan, then it may tip over.

We usually just sit around the fire. Perhaps you've never done that.
