Daily Paul 2014 Resolutions Thread

Resolutions? Please post them below, if you wish to share and if you're looking for support.

I have a few, but two that I'll share. The first one, for the Daily Paul: Raise the bar. I hope you'll all join me in this, DPers. Raise the bar.

What does that mean to you? I'll have more to say in the new year.

Second, I weighed in this morning at 84kg = 185lbs = about 20lbs over my ideal weight.

I could take that off with a fad diet, but as everyone should know by now, diets are only temporary solutions. The weight (and more) eventually just comes boomeranging back. What is required is a lifestyle change. I'm going to make a couple simple changes and see how that works.

The first is to eliminate wheat from my diet. I have been experimenting with this since reading Wheat Belly, by William Davis. If you want to hear the riot act as it pertains to wheat, read that book. According to him, wheat is the source of chronic inflammation, bloating, headaches, and a bunch of other stuff. Not only that, it is addictive like crack! He goes so far as to speculate that the reason high protein, low carb diets (like the Atkins diet) work is simply because they eliminate wheat.

The thing is, wheat is in so many things. It is very difficult to avoid. I thought quitting smoking was hard because you can buy cigarettes practically anywhere. But wheat is evenmore ubiquitous! So it'll be tough.

The second is to subscribe (as much as possible) to the dictum: If it was made from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don't eat it. LOL!

Good luck everyone, and happy new year.

Resolutions Post..

Michael, I saw your OP right around the first of the year, but forgive me, haven't been here since just because I've been buzy. I've seen some and heard some talk about wheat; I should get and read "Wheat Belly". How about Kamut wheat? I recently got some at a Milwaukee Co-op, eating it raw seems to give me energy. I believe so many foods have been hybrid and possibly genetically modified/mutated so bad, they are not what God originally intended.

“The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them.”

– Thomas Jefferson

My resolution is to not care so much whether or not people

acknowledge my posts or opinions here or elsewhere.

actually I made this resolution a month or two ago - it'll be a year or two ago before I know it! - but really, all I can do is put what I've got out there and if people like it and respond to it that's great, if they don't, well, tomorrow's another day right?

Daily Paul cured my abibliophobia.

2014 - T4L

I have been thinking about this a few days so I am getting a late start...

- Read more often
->read my bible more often
- Get educated in regards to nutrition
->utilize that knowledge
- Help others on a regular basis
- Start a garden
- Complain less often/ "look where it is good" (Thanks for sharing Michael)
- Learn a new art form
- Play my guitar more frequently
- Start a business with my fiance
- Don't pay someone to do something that I can do myself

proverbs 20:15
There is gold, and an abundance of jewels;
But the lips of knowledge are a more precious thing.

Thank you so very much Michael. This

year we removed the old greenhouse (12x14) which I gave to my in-laws. I fully resolve to build my new greenhouse (14x24) to accommodate my veggies and Ms. Susan's many flowers. We have to accommodate 1/2 acre and 6 raised beds for the veggies. Seems she has almost as much room in her flower beds. Lol!

In addition my business partner and I are going to start a very small aquaponic system at the motorcycle shop. Just to get our hands on experience.

I resolve year to help many more people return to the soil so to speak. In the last couple of years I have helped many start their own efforts and living a sustainable lifestyle. This year I intend to double my efforts.

This year I resolve to expand my seasoning mixes with a little luck maybe start it into a profitable business. At least what I make is completely from my or a neighbors garden. All comes from the seed starting in my greenhouse.

Just my way of seconding: If it was made from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don't eat it. LOL! I love it. Hope all is well with you and yours. Peace my friend.

Over the next few weeks I'll try to post a few pictures.

Wonderful to hear from you, paduraru

Thank you for sharing your life with us. For inspiring us.

If it is made in a plant, beat it!

Drinking for me

I have a problem. I need to fix it.

Michael Nystrom's picture

The first step is acknowledging the problem.

That takes insight and courage, and that is a great first step. Build on it from there.

I'm sure that there are many here who have been through it. Don't be afraid to reach out.

Best of luck, friend.

Not enough?

Or too much? :)

OH... have fun day :)

ah, this is the resolution thread

I knew there was one. Good luck with the wheat. I am sure it is very difficult. I had to cut out all onions for a while and I found out that onions are in everything. I pretty much had to stop eating any processed foods- so it was a good thing for me!!

I have been trying to avoid flour with potassium bromate and that is hard enough. The hard part for me is the pizza dough. I love pizza! I have reduced the amount I eat significantly but haven't cut it out completely. Speaking of potassium bromate....I haven't had a Mountain Dew in quite a while :-(

wishing everyone a healthy new year!

OK, my turn.

This year I resolve to raise chickens again. I'll be getting a dozen Rock Island Reds hen chicks to free roam my lawn. 6 eggs a day to eat and 6 to trade.

It's also time to start consolidating and separating my electronic scrap. Moose Scrapper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNJIayXCXXw $170/pound for recovered tantalum capacitors. Silver contacts. Neobydnium magnets.

By the end of the first quarter I'll know if I can buy scrap electronics for profit.

So many inspirational choices made by DPers. I wish everyone the best in their endeavors this year.

Paul how did it go

With quitting smoking?

How did it go, you mean?

In retropect, there was no chance. Why did I crave the flush, of satisfaction.

Research has suggested that craving for nicotine is a craving for vitamin B3 and B6.

Further, the smoke contains trace minerals. 60 minerals are essential to prevent disease. Many of them are used by the immune system to make variations of critical enzymes. I used to come back for scout weekend camp smoked.

Cigarettes are portable firepits made from nicotonia Nicotine is converted using copper into niacin and B-6

Vitamin B6 a cofactor in many amino acid metabolism, including transamination, deamination, and decarboxylation. It govern the release of glucose from glycogen.

Niacin is involved in both DNA repair, and the production of steroid hormones in the adrenal gland.

Since it would be better to supplement more with trace minerals and B vitamins.

So every time I feel the urge I've been taking a Twinlab Stress B-Complex with C.

I also have Concentrace Trace mineral tablets, with the B capsule.

This is an top of a monthly Healthy Bone and joint pack.

I am allowed to smoke outside. It's 10F in Michigan. I just take the capsule supplement foregoing the burning supplement.

That's my hypothesis. How much nicotine is in 3 pack a day?

Nicotine substitutes are a great idea until substitute nutrients are added to daily life.

I've got a picture and a plan. This morning's pipeful, just tasted bad. Hmmmm...

Yes, it's time to resolve again to quit smoking.

Thanks, Michael.

Free includes debt-free!

It was bravado and good intentions, in the end.

Dosing with trace minerals and if I get enough B-vitamins per day 600mg B3 and 600mg B6 the urge is diminished.

The hypothesis is that when nutrition cures the craving smoking becomes a burden that serves no purpose.

So, smoking is illogical besides the dangers.

I might justify going from three pack a day to one ounce of pipe tobacco per month as progress. Lame excuses are a dime a dozen.

A new bottle of B-complex vitamins just drove in.

Quitting smoking is still pending.

Free includes debt-free!

How I quit smoking

This may help on how did it go with quitting smoking, even if it is not the whole story in this recording... http://relate4ever.wordpress.com/2012/07/04/smoking

Regarding Wheat Belly vs. Atkins diet

When I did Atkins the first time, my brain fog cleared for only the second time in my life.

I'd occasionally noticed the brain fog would clear with fasting, but since I was almost always either competing in a sport or battling health issues, I didn't fast often.

When I did Atkins later to drop weight divisions for my sport, I was working out many hours a day and didn't need to drop carbs altogether to go into ketosis. The brain fog did not clear.

When I finally went gluten-free and the brain fog cleared, I understood the connection.

Defend Liberty!

I also had brain fog

went gluten free, low glycemic. Yet brain fog persisted occasionally and ear noise especially if I fell asleep in front of TV and by a window effected by a Wi-Fi tower. A friend referred me to Orgone http://www.orgoneffectsaustralia.com/. She did a test with ice in her home and sent pictures: before, ice cloudy - after, ice was clear. I ordered the full house unit and have not had brain fog since. Yahoo!!

My resolutions for the year:

6. Lose 15 - 20 lbs.

5. Polish my writing skills.

4. Build relationships with the neighbors and friends.

3.Hug my children, read to them, assist their character growth.

2.Encourage my husband in his pursuit of a dream.

1.Seek first the Kingdom of God, and His Righteousness (Jesus)

To grow a giant garden

It's good for the body and soul.

I have a few

1. To kiss or hug each of my kiddos 1+times/everyday (I have lots so this is a challenge)
2. Bite my tongue more, might get pretty sore.
3. Pray instead if speak.
4. P90X3 with my hubby and 16 year old son.
5. Write something (per my hubby's request)
6. Look people in the eye when they are talking to me(again with a 12 person household this is tricky)
7. Smile at strangers, I hate strangers. Look them in the eyes and smile. Maybe even talk, I don't know, we'll see how this goes...
8. Reduce sugar, fast more, and buy a water filter.
9. Write in thankful journal, 3 things everyday.

Was researching this issue for family

just this morning (sugar, sugar, sugar). Take a look at this Paleo diet (life style change) http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2010/10/04/the-beginners-gui.... I see my daughter-in-law diet and exercise then go out a lot with young children & posts pictures on fb; cupcakes, ice cream, cinnamon rolls, mochas. Sugar is an extreme addiction causing inflammation through out the body.
My resolutions; stay off sugar, pray for Peace and #1 educate as many people as possible about loss of freedoms.

Double my Armory

My resolution may be a costly one, but I am dedicated.

I am going to start selling those things I have set aside for my 'Golden Years' via garage sales and Ebay auctions, then I will take the funds and DOUBLE my present inventory of firearms and ammunition.

I CHALLENGE ALL TO DO THE SAME. It just may be the smartest thing you ever did...

I really really want to cut waaaay back on the cigs. (and eventually quit all together) I have purchased vape cigs but the juice is too strong, so I have to get back to the store for a lower dose. But tptb in Ok are trying to ban them. I read it is actually big pharma fighting the e-cigs, not tobacco companies. Big pharma stands to lose a lot of revenue if people stop smoking.
The governor in Ok recently signed an "executive" order to ban the e-cigs on all state property. Wonder how big her check was from big pharma? There must be no real issues here (other than cops killing people left and right, roads filled with pot holes, bridges deterio ating, unemployment, homeless people) to deal with if that is what is a priority for the governor. I am surprised the vape stores aren't being raided here.
Oh and I love her reasoning for banning them: the FDA hasn't approved them! Yep, the FDA has such a stunning record!
Sorry, my resolution turned into a rant! lol

Formerly rprevolutionist

I'm kinda slow...

...but why is big pharma affected by e-cigs? Interesting.

This will explain it
