its amazing how so many need to group identify

Everyone seems to need to be something:
liberal
libertarian
progressive
Republican
Democrat
Green
Communist
Capitalist
Socialist
etc.

TPTB love those labels. Labels create automatic bias from what they write into people minds and keep people divided.

What's your herd?

The most powerful Law of Nature is Time. It is finite and we all will run out of it. Use this Law to your advantage, for it offers you infinite possibilities...

They say...

Trying to herd Libertarians is like trying to herd cats!

Ermagerd! Thank you!

I really enjoyed this piece. All of them are hilarious.

But #10 got me so good. I regret nothing! hahahahahaha

I also can't look at #7 and not laugh constantly.

You might be a Libertarian if...

You might be a libertarian if you believe...

If you think 99 percent of politicians give the rest of them a bad name, you might be a Libertarian.
If you think taxes are ridiculously high, you might be a Libertarian.
If you think that the problem with civil servants is that too many of them are neither civil nor servants, you might be a Libertarian.
If someone asks you to take a urine test and you feel like telling them you'll give them a taste test, you might be a Libertarian.
If you think that there are way too many laws about way too many things, you might be a Libertarian.
If you believe in the Bill of Rights, you might be a Libertarian.
If you believe that no one should go to jail for smoking flowers, you might be a Libertarian.
If you believe that just about everything should be bought and sold on an open market except politicians, you might be a Libertarian.
If you are glad you don’t get all the government you pay for, you might be a Libertarian.
If you think the US Constitution is the only contract with America you need, you might be a Libertarian.
If you think the only gun permit you need is the Second Amendment, you might be a Libertarian.
If the only way you can tell a left winger from a right winger is by which one of their hands is in which one of your pockets, you might be a Libertarian.
If you think the left is too left and the right is just plain wrong, you might be a Libertarian.
If you think polluters should pay for the environmental damage they cause, you might be a Libertarian.

How do you know if you are a Libertarian? Thanks to http://rlibertarians.tripod.com/funny.html for a quick and funny reference point.

Libertarian Party Has the Abortion Issue backwards.

If they reason their way from their vaunted principles that is. If we start from universal human individual rights for all, ie Life, Liberty & Property, the nonaggression axiom, and the principle of taking responsibility for your freedom, ie, taking responsibility for all your actions, then yes, the Libertarian Party and other big L's, have reasoned the issue of abortion incorrectly.

Using those principles above, all you can do is say that a freely acting Man AND WOMAN is responsible for the results from their procreation actions. Hence, murdering the new life is not an option under libertarian principles. However, this is where it does get interesting or upsetting for absolutists Pro-Lifer's, abortion would be acceptable for reasons of rape and incest.

Moreover, it gets REALLY interesting when its applied over time and across state lines. To see what I mean, take a "regular or typical murder" as an example. Murder with a gun, say of a convenience store clerk during a robbery (seems simple enough, right?) yet the results vary across time and statelines and PER PERSON. Now at first this may seem unjust. But actually, it may be the best we humans can ever do when it comes to finding justice. In 1955, such a convenience store murder/crime may get you life. In 1965, 25 years, in 1995, 10 years, and in 2005, 20 years. And of course, which state and which judge and jury also matters. CONTEXT will be all the rage, as it should be. Was this a first time thing? Was the shot an accident during the robbery or was it a cold pointless assassination? Yes, CONTEXT becomes all the rage. As it SHOULD BE.

And so it SHOULD be with abortion. Courts could and should rule a thousand ways across the board, depending on CONTEXT of the case. Was this abortion her 5th? Was it her 1st? What was her age, did she know what she was doing? Under what CONTEXT did you get yourself pregnant. And, WHO got you pregnant? Was this someone who goes around getting woman pregnant? Some careless carefree playboy or broke inconsiderate fool? Yes, the courts may fine the repeat offense playboy a Half Million, and the broke inconsiderate fool 100 hours of child/daddy/sex ed classes.

Overtime, some general conditions and rules shall be applied. First time abortion offense vs a 3rd time abortion offense. No doubt, just like any other kind of murder, rulings will vary, penalties will vary. I suspect that an "abortion court", ie a local court that hears out the case FOR an abortion will hammer out over time better rulings than the one size fits all ruling of Roe vs Wade that we have today. Cases of the mother's life at risk, cases of rape and incest and child abuse may all get the nod to have an abortion. Cases of 20 something college women may get denied. And no doubt repeat cases or pleas for a 2nd or 3rd abortion, could be denied if willing adopting parents stand ready to receive and take that responsibility over. Culturally and over time, human society will fine tune its balancing act for protecting young life, the rights & responsibilities of the woman and man, and meeting the challenge to finding moral fairness in each case.

Here is the bottomline. I am just saying...that a libertarian individual rights based argument can and should be made against abortion. What big Libertarian Party types have not done, is tie in their "all the time, any context 100% pro-choice position' into the rest of libertarian rights theory.

Abortion.

Because women are not chattel property.

Every existing human's body and whatever is inside her skin is exclusively her property and not yours. You nave no jurisdiction inside any other person's skin.

Even the Bible acknowledges that it's the Divine Breath of Life that makes a lump of clay (or tissue) into a Living Being:
"Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." - Genesis 2:7.

Or are you saying that the Bible is wrong?

A fetus is property. When the woman expels it from her body and it breathes, it miraculously becomes a Living Being. Ever hears of "the miracle of childbirth?"

The only people who have rights are people whom you can actually see without cutting another person open.

Freedom is my Worship Word!

You sound like the Slave Owners

They used to say whatever is within their property is exclusively theirs to do with as they wish. That included their wife, their children and their slaves. Property rights.

The question is - Is that a human inside there and does it deserve to live? Does it deserve to be protected from aggression?

richgrise --- The Bible Argument FOR abortion? Interesting.

I am not familiar with this Bible argument FOR abortion. Most Pro-Lifers are Bible believers, how has your response been?

But as for myself, an atheist/evolutionist/libertarian, I find my argument above, (which is really, neither 100% Pro-Life or 100% Pro-Choice), most satisfying.

I would like to ask a

I would like to ask a libertarian about open borders when we have an immigration problem here and there are no jobs. we need a secure border to have a republican form of government.

Immigration

It's not really an immigration problem - it's a welfare state problem.
And, of course, the unions fight against inexpensive labor. And, of course, letting foreigners elect socialists.

Freedom is my Worship Word!

"immigration problem & no jobs" -- let me address that statement

Those who follow the illegal immigration data are aware that "where there are lots of jobs" there are "lots of illegals". That is, illegal immigration is a "Jobs-pull" phenomenon.

What they don't see in the mountains of data is a "welfare-pull" phenomenon.

Arizona is a case in point. During the housing boom of the 1990's -2005, illegal immigration was at an all-time high. Yet come the slow down of 2006 and the crash of 2008 and the flat bottom "recovery" in 2013, the data shows a NET OUT FLOW of illegals. Sheriff Joe may want or try to take credit for the out-flow of illegals, but that is not a causal factor as illegals have been ignoring government rules period. What they are responding to is jobs. Moreover, those who are "anti-illegal" often get the causality of movement wrong because they think incorrectly, its welfare. But if it was welfare pulling in illegals, the states and cities and towns that illegals travel to, would be completely different. That is, they would be locating in the highest welfare dollar states and cities, yet that has not been the case for over 30 years.

I recall the 1960's and 1970s, when government first got into what was then called, farm immigration. These farm workers migrated into the USA in the harvest months, and migrated back to Mexico in the other months. That free flow of farm labor stopped when government suddenly started calling for farm labor permits. Farm activists, such as Ceasar Chaves, who organized the Great Grape Strike, was a union man and wanted and invited the government into the issue of "farm labor". Various farm labor acts where past. Finally, the farm labor immigration revolving door was closed by 1980's. Those who stayed in the USA settled down in "Mexican towns" like Casa Grande and waited for the farm labor harvest season time to come around. Those that returned, found year after year getting back over the border to be harder and harder. Those that stayed, settled in. By 1988, Reagan grandfather them in. The border stayed closed.

Yet those Americans who wined, "Hey go back to your country and GET IN LINE like everyone else coming to the USA", failed to listen to their reply. "There is no line, buddy. There is no line for unskilled workers to enter into the USA. There is a SKILLED line, and if you were a top engineer or computer guy, there was a line. But there is no line for unskilled workers. Especially NO LINE for Men wanting to do farm labor work, leave his family back in Mexico, and return after harvest." So the illegals who stayed found other odd jobs, landscaping, plumbing, tile, roofing, anything that a unskilled worker could enter in with just a truck and a tool box. And the hard working Mexican American, was born.

So in-demand is the hard working Mexican American that people could not hire them fast enough. So willing to work, they hung out at home depot, and with bad spanglesh, explained "no problem man, I can do it". Americans hired Mexican Americans for two main reasons, A WILLINGNESS TO DO HARD WORK and PRICE. And Americans hired them in droves weekend after weekend, for odd projects to big projects. Americans would drive RIGHT BY the scraggly old VET at the intersection holding a sign saying, "Will work for Food", because Americans knew that was a lie, He would NOT work for food, but wanted a cash for his alcohol obsession. And surely, if this American wanted work and was WILLING to work hard, he would have found a HOME DEPOT and not a freeway intersection to beg for money. He would have found a farmer with acres and acres of Florida oranges to pick, or a Washington farmer with thousands and thousands of apples to pick. But he didn't, he found those giving soles who "helped". And helped they did, with meals on wheels food programs, alcohol help programs, VET post stress programs, food buffets and shelters and so on -- all various welfare. (I ought to know, I was foolish at 18 to volunteer and "help as much as I can"). But after a year of this, I could not help but agree, we helped no one...I mean real DEEP DOWN help. But there was this incredibly cheap Asshole, and he came by and ordered about various "LOSERS & Peices of Human Trash" to work for him. He put them to work loading and unloading his moving trucks. He gave them hard work, lots of verbal abuse, ZERO respect, and took advantage of them in so many ways it makes your head shake. And one by one, each suddenly got better (usually with the inspiration that if this asshole can run a moving company with two leased trucks, so could they). In the end, what helped the most? HARD ASS WORK. SWEATY WORK. LOW PAYING BACK BREAKING WORK. That cured, that inspired, and that got results.

Oh, back to Illegals and welfare. Its the 2nd generation that first generation illegals don't get and must watch out for. These are the one's "americanized" with the hip-hop-rap, rags to riches & babes mentality. This is the mentality of gangs with fast money, fast women, something for nothing, and most of all, "f*ck hard work! f*ck McDonalds (as if McDonalds WOULD actually hire these pukes). But I tell you this, McDonalds would hire any earnest honest illegal. But they can't.

Why?

Because of the anti-illegal fervor in this country. I for one am all for illegals. They work hard, they are honest (for the most part), and they have not adopted the loser values of hip-hop-rap culture that glorifies the fast buck, the fast f*ck, and fast fame. So what does THIS mean? This means that "our" problem in America is NOT the illegals its OUR poor, our underclasses who do not seek out hard work to get ahead, who do not save, who do not live by an honest days work ethic. That is OUR real problem today, not illegals seeking welfare, which generally speaking, they do not, they travel for jobs. They travel BY FOOT for jobs to chicken packing plants, to Apple fields in Washington to Orange groves in Florida and to your local home depot to help you with your construction project. You won't get that from legal americans who are uneducated and unskilled, and that is the REAL problem.

no peace sign needed, just the site of the barry bumper 2012 makes me sick. i can kinda understand the 2008 bumper sticker but 2012, really?
they should of took the advice of the great American orator g.w. bush when he said...
'Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again' —

Fool me once

It's an ancient Chinese proverb; Bush just wants credit for it, even though he screwed it up: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
