HELP! My wife is turning people off of Ron Paul!
Submitted by umichlaw on Tue, 01/29/2008 - 09:58
For all of the women libers out there with no sense of humor...I love my wife. She has difficulty articulating Ron Paul's platform to others who are considering other candidates. I hate seeing her get so angry and belligerent with them. I have also been told by those people that it has put them off of Dr. Paul.
I'm sorry my explanation of why she has such difficulty was not sugar-coated for some of you and appeared offensive and disrespectful. It is what it is. None of us are perfect. We've been together for 8 years and we do communicate. Relax. Don't presume to know everything about someone by the tone of a single post.

As a "fellow" female Ron Paul supporter
who has donated and spent thousands, and traveled across the world to canvass full-time for Ron Paul, your wife should stop "helping" Ron Paul all together. She is getting in my way.

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!
You don't need to be a
You don't need to be a professor to "sell" Dr. Paul. The best things about Dr. Paul are simple: lower taxes, less government intrusion in our lives, ending the war, freedom, ending taxes on tips, etc.
Frankly, the "wonkish" stuff like (e.g. the gold standard/federal reserve, dollar devaluation, etc) isn't going to win over most voters anyway- they don't understand it and don't care. And you for damned sure don't need to be ranting about the CFR or 9-11 conspiracy theories (that not only doesn't bring voters to Ron Paul, it drives voters away).
So suggest to her that she keep it simple and talk about the things that average voters understand and care about (remember, talking to people about Dr. Paul is about getting them to vote for him, not about impressing people with your knowledge of economic theory).

Appeal to her passion about
Appeal to her passion about the message and the man, Ron Paul. Diplomatically ask her to be a little more strategic when talking politics. Ask her to envision the manner in which RP would approach the discussion with those who are resistant to the ideology. He sure has shown a lot of patience and restraint in those debates!
If it is any consolation
At least she is trying to reach out . After hearing me rave about RP I finally got my husband to watch a few videos of him enough to get him to vote. As to everything else that is coming down though he just shrugs it off as "just politics" no matter how I explain it which is really frustrating. I really think the only thing that will get his attention is the eventual economic storm coming our way.
Let Her Read Some Of These Comments
Vote RON PAUL 2008
Vote RON PAUL 2008
Yeah
I find I never start with mentioning Ron Paul, I'll spend some time getting a feel for what they are concerned about and then lead the conversation in to how great DR Paul is.
just tell her to send this out
or maybe watch this
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3051024550497129264&...
She's just as passionate as we are to RP..albeit, she has to...
...mellow down a bit on some "stubborn" supporters. You can't convince them misled folks with a change of heart in a snap...

I know you're going to take this wrong, but you need to not be an asshole.
She is probably doing fine, it sounds like you're just a bit too controlling. Let her do her thing and stay out of it. She probably does better than you at recruiting and you're not able to see it. Just my thoughts from the language in your post.
Besides, assume she is dumb, as you basically said, even still it is better to spread the word of Dr. Paul rather than no one ever hearing a whisper of it.
What
I thought he made it pretty clear that he respects his wife and loves her in his post.
Jarad Come on
I think you need to re-read your post here. You're calling this guy an asshole outta no where, telling him he is controlling and then insulting him in order to make him feel inferior to his wife? GET OFF THE PSYCHOLOGICAL EXPRESS BUD!
Are you totally warped? The garbage your spewing to this man is sickening. He hasn't said a word about being a controlling, dominating monster and how he thinks he needs to be the only one speaking for RP. He's simply looking for insight.
Get off your yuppie x generation psycho babble train and either say something encouraging or nothing. I'm so sick of people that have been brainwashed that every time a man "seems in control" of ANYTHING he's being wrong.
Maybe just maybe this guy does wear the pants in the family. Something wrong with that?
WTF is wrong with you people?
Puppets come and puppets go but the world's stage is getting cluttered.
My God. All I'm trying to
My God. All I'm trying to say is that she has trouble reasoning with supporters of other candidates. The reason for that is that she does not have a strong educational background. THIS DOES NOT MEAN SHE ISN"T INTELLIGENT. I adore her because she fills in a lot of the gaps I have as a human being.
She is doing fine with spreading the message. She just gets soooo argumentative and angry when she can't articulate her position very well that it turns other people off. The suggestion of another poster to refer those people to youtube was a good idea. That's what I was looking for.
Right
No criticism of you, just of your wife.
KISS
Just remind her to Keep It Simple (and leave off the Stupid part:-)
Whenever we feel the need to 'debate' someone when we don't have all the facts, it's best to tell the person to go to the website & read Dr. Paul's words on the issue. If that doesn't sway them, nothing will!

Remember this...
Ron Paul's messge is going to last a lot longer than his bid for the presidency. the best you can do is to continue to present examples of how his message is the correct one. Let her draw her own conclusions, and then she can comfortably debate someone.
If your wife understands the concepts of freedom, and individualism, she should be able to hold her own in any debate against a government loving statist, or a Neo-Con. RP doesn't have a difficult platform, follow the constitution. That will cover 98% of any issues that may arise.
I get ticked at any liberal who tries to tell me that the government should have more power. I take that personally. Visa versa that probably happens with some of your wife's encounters. Not everyone is ripe for the message. Remember that. There are still many stuck in the matrix. Don't get discouraged, it should be our goal as supporters to educate the ignorant and slowly turn the tide. Economic implosion will help, but people have been dependant on the state for entirely too long.

I'm also shocked when someone says they are in favor of the war
Some of the points I use to convince people don't work at all and I see my wife connect with people with other things. I would say let her develop her own style. The idea really isn't to convince people to vote for him but to convince them to the point that they convince other people. Of course, then, they would also vote for him, too. There are so many reasons to support Ron Paul but don't expect the same issues to work with everyone.
Try this
Buy the movie "America, from freedom to Fascism" and make copies of it to hand out to those who are on the fence still.
For anyone who truly doesn't understand why we face the problems we have in this country, this movie will explain it. It's enraged anyone I've ever shown it to.
Sometimes you can tell people all that you want, but they still won't listen. Sometimes seeing really is believing.
If after watching that movie they still don't see why we need Ron Paul so badly, then they must be a person who is perfecly happy with the status quo and likely will never change their mind.
Tell your wife that this is what is happening to our country ...

Leave her alone and support her
Idiot--oh, excuse me--I mean, sir. She will get better. Don't try to control everything in your life. People learn by failure. Allow her to have hers. She won't hurt Ron Paul nearly as much as you will with your smarter-than-thou attitude. People, including your wife, can read that disapproval. You are obviously listening when she is doing this, and believe me, your attitude is pouring from every orifice of your body. Do her and the world a favor and get over yourself.
I'm sorry you got divorced.
I'm sorry you got divorced. Don't take it out on me. I love my wife and hate to see her get so upset when she gets flustered and feels "bested" by someone when she discusses politics. I'm just soliciting constructive advice for God's sake. Worry about yourself more instead of me.
I'm not
I needed that divorce. He was shallow. If you love your wife, let her be and quit criticizing her. You seem to be able to dish it out, but can't take it. I'm not worried about you, YOU asked for advice. The truth hurts, doesn't it.
God, you sound like one of
God, you sound like one of my exes. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Not off,
Having a wife that cares about liberty, freedom and the constitution, who is also hot is never a bad thing.
Don't try to bridal her passion, perhaps, you need to get off your "UM Law School self.
Subconcious
that's the problem. You see, deep down within your wife's subconcience
she maybe relating freedom and liberty to you without realising it. She has fear that when Ron Paul wins your liberty and freedom that you might take this new found experience closer to your personal habits.(Staying out all night, that sort of thing)?
'I always thank of all you canvassors and precinct leaders and delegates who were at the front line and caucuses.
Good luck out there &Thank you. You're a gift.

Simple but effective?
Just tell her to ask people if they want to merge America with Canada and Mexico like all the other candidates want to do. Also tell her to ask them if they take ANY vitamins or supplements of any kind. This also is a fragile right at this time...
Tell her that if they value these kinds of freedoms, that the only candidate who is fighting for these freedoms is Ron Paul!

My wife knows...
...that when the discussion gets too deep to hand it off to me.
But she does a good job and has her "talking points:" the War, abortion, low taxes, small govt, pro gun.
Wow
Are you for real? Sounds like a pre-women's rights era couple I guess.
