Since this thread is about FLORIDA then you guys that live there, especially there since questions were addressed there in earlier campaign efforts yet nothing truly ever became of it -- Need to see this documentary. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7907810896542492471...
Granted, it's a long one (about 1 1/2 hours) but it addresses how DIEBOLD did its math (there, in Floraida) and ended up subtracting about 1600 votes (in one known case) from AL GORE last time around. Subtracting votes isn't possible is it, not when votes are to be added -- you know 1 for him, 1 for that guy, 1 for your choice, 1 for that other person's choice, etc., etc., think about it. And yet DIEBOLD continues to be put into use this time around also. Here's the proof of why it shouldn't be used and yet DIEBOLD Boldly Goes Where No Man Has Gone Before -- a little Star Trek reference for you that failed to catch it.

I usually just lurk here and don't post but I'm a little confused. I'm pretty sure I've read articles that the Florida legislature passed a law in May 2007 requiring paper ballots for the 2008 primaries and general election. When I went to vote I saw that they were using the electronic machines and I asked the person there about it. She said "Oh this is Naples. We've been using the machines for a while." I said "I thought the legislature voted to require paper ballots." She said "Oh we'll probably use them for the general election." And then she scurried away. Probably use them? Did they pass a law or not? I didn't think it was optional. A very quick and cursory search pulls up this article:
Someone needs to FIND the LAW, and challenge them! Maybe it should have been done before this primary! We need to be on top of these things beforehand.
That's what I keep saying...
Please someone go get some video of them allowing independents to vote and also the use of electronic voting. Just go and video. If they ask, say you're shooting video for an I-report for CNN (it's not a lie to say that and do it...)
They'll let you video as long as you're not just sitting in the booth with voters... At least try, for the love of GOD, go, do this now please. I'd do it and drive to florida like the crazy NASA lady with a diaper on from Texas, but I have to pick up my daughter from daycare and go canvassing at 2pm today!
Just cast my vote for Ron Paul here in Edgewater, Volusia county FL precinct 913.
And that is B.S. that poll workers are telling registered Independents that they have to vote either Republican or Democrat! Florida is supposed to be a closed primary state!

You know what you have a chance to do... take a video camera in there and say you are an independent and see if they give you the choice.
We must video this and have evidence!!!
Or if you can't do it (because you already voted, duh), at least go and see if you can get some clarification of the rules.
Do it and get some evidence of what's happening so we don't have to go over and over about "well he said, she said, stuff"
Video damns them and incriminates them, case closed.
In northern Coral Springs, near the Sawgrass Expressway and Coral Ridge Drive, David Nirenberg arrived to vote as an independent. Nevertheless, he said poll workers insisted he choose a party ballot.
"He said to me, 'Are you Democrat or Republican?' I said, 'Neither, I am independent.' He said, 'Well, you have to pick one,''' Nirenberg said.
In Florida, only those who declare a party are allowed to cast a vote in that party's presidential primary.
Nirenberg said he tried to explain to the poll worker that he should not vote on a party ballot because of his "no party affiliation" status.
Nirenberg said a second poll worker was called over who agreed that independents should not use party ballots, but said they had received instructions to the contrary.
"He said, 'Ya know, that is kind of funny, but it was what we were told.' … I was shocked when they told me that." Nirenberg said he went ahead and voted for John McCain.
Go President Paul!

I generally have very little time to post comments much less spend the day keeping track of responses, so this is a little late, but my "outrage" at this happening is what I was expressing. I live in Floriduh with a bunch of Floridiots. and apparently poll workers are no exception. Or maybe they're just corrupt?

___________ Rabbi Richard Yellin said he was first in line at the polling location at Congress Avenue and Woolbright Boulevard in Boynton Beach, but that did him little good when it came to casting his vote.
"There has been a major failure of the voting, at least at this precinct," he said.
He said he TRIED FIVE TIMES to use the voting machine but it would not allow him to vote. About a dozen people were also at the precinct to vote, Yellin said. "NONE OF THE MACHINES WORKED," Yellin said.
Poll workers were attempting to obtain help from the main elections office, but were still struggling to activate the machines when Yellin said he had to leave to attend to his duties at the synagogue.
___________
Now you can't tell me those machines are worth a damn. This tells me they are screwed up and WE ARE BEING SCREWED if we continue to allow their use.
I believe the correct word I'm searching for to summarize this situation, after reading this article, would be:

HOW HARD IS IT TO RUN AN ELECTION??? NOT VERY!
You know your rules, you check and make sure folks are abiding by the rules, you help instruct those who do not understand the voting process and make sure everything works properly.
For dirt's sake, what the hell, WHY IS THIS 2008 ELECTION SO DIFFICULT TO UNDERTAKE!???
Back to paper and people counting the damn things.
Hell, when I was in school, I did "scantron" tests ALL the time, and never had a machine malfunction, EVER.
Is it really ok to give these election officials a "free pass" or is it the lack of understanding of computers and electronic equipment with elderly individuals running them.
Does every grandmother know how to turn on a computer or use one? Nope. Now I'm not sure if therein lies the problem, but hell, what is going on here??? And seemingly, everywhere???

We arent really holding out for a major win in FL- just a solid show. What we can almost count on is- Rudy's last stand and a WHOLE lot of questions about the legitimacy of the machines and fraud- but this time the ones complaining will be the 2nd and 3rd place guys. In the final analysis FL will be a gainer for us no matter the outcome...and we press on.

Remember this when you rail about the "crooked elections" and "disasters." Conducting an election is a huge undertaking and they only do it two or three times a year. There are bound to be problems.
If you are really concerned, go ahead and volunteer to be a poll worker next time.
