"No more free passes for Rand Paul"

Note: Posted as a public service and an FYI, that Rand is getting it from all sides. This woman Jennifer Rubin at the Washington Post hates him.

January 6 at 9:45 am

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) gets away, rhetorically speaking, with murder in large part because media and political opponents who know better consider him to be a crank. Fact checkers can only call “pants on fire” so many times where the junior senator from Kentucky is concerned without neglecting the rest of the political fabricators. They therefore let a lot of bizarre and downright false utterances go by the wayside. He was at it again on Sunday.

If you recall he previously said that extending unemployment benefits would be a “disservice“ to the unemployed. You can debate that proposition (Does the availability of minimal benefits cause people to slow down their job search?), but it ostensibly was based on the desire to attend to the needs of the jobless. But no more of that, Rand Paul now says. It’s simply a matter of money — taxpayer money. He’s decided that if we “pay for it” (i.e. cut elsewhere) we can extend the benefits. Won’t the jobless then be disserved — or was his previous opposition based on phony sentiments about what is good for the poor?

If he is really concerned about the cost of unemployment benefits (about $25 billion for three months), then he’s fighting over nickels in the couch. The debt is over $17 trillion. (This is akin to his obsession over foreign aid spending, which is about 1 percent of federal spending.) It is hard to know whether Rand Paul is an opportunist, uniformed or both.

Extending unemployment benifits is just keeping a poor man poor.

The government justifies its lies theft and mas murdering wars by giving handouts to those who it hurts the most.

Ever hear the saying dont feed the bears. Know why. If you start feeding a bear you will in most cases have to kill it. Think about that.

If you make people dependant upon you GOVERNMENT guess what happens when the hand outs stop. ANGER STARVATION more anger.

Dont give a man a fish help him to catch one for himself.

PS that said Rand Paul sold out traitor to his own family and his country. He endorsed NWO and still does with his strong support for his beloved IzUnReal who he states is his best freind in the middle east.

Sure tells me that he has no freinds in the middle east if he thinks these zionists will ever give him a pass.

I'm fairly sure that

Rubin is wrong on everything in her article. Does all wrong make a right? How is she giving a conservative viewpoint here LOL.

I am Ron Paul

Ron Paul is an anti-semitic trash talking racist idiot

According to Neo-Con Jennifer Rubin

Why would she feel any different about Rand?

Jennifer Rubin, Bill Kristol, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Peter King, Daniel Pipes...these are our real enemies.

Absolute Neo-Con scum. They are the REAL enemy of us all.

The MSM is already pushing Hillary vs Christie, attacks on Rand will increase as the primary season draws closer.

Nice topic Allegory...big +1

In addition to the welfare

In addition to the welfare state issue ...

Deficit and debt are two different things. Her ridiculous example is akin to saying an extra $100 per month out of my pocket for a mortgage payment is like couch nickels because I owe $200k on my house.
$200 per month for unemployment insurance and foreign aid... not couch nickels.

10-15 million more voters need to believe in non-interventionism (liberty) at home and abroad to change America. Minds changed on Syria. Minds changing on privacy. "Printing money" is part of the dialogue. Win minds through focus, strategy.

1% for foreign aid is

1% for foreign aid is incorrect. I don’t know where she got her facts from.

Do not give into evil, but proceed ever more boldly against it.

Rand Paul was Misquoted!

1-5-2014 on ABC news "this week"

Rand says he would support extending unemployment on 2 conditions. First, they figure out how to fund it. Second, they pass legislation to help solve joblessness. For example pass his bill "economic free zones" that allows cities to dramatically cut taxes to support job growth!!! He did say unemployment benefits encourages people to slow their job search (and he is correct) but he would support extending unemployment benefits if congress also does something to ACTUALLY solve the problem.

First they

ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they attack you, then you win.

They are now attacking Rand Paul...

Very nice

She even said at the bottom that they can't ignore Rand anymore. And she's attacking him in the article. When do we get to laugh at Rubin, when we win?

I am Ron Paul

I don't think she's called him an anti-semite yet

Though she's called half of America anti-semitic.

She is quite a ball of hate.

Somebody downvoted that?

By her own admission, unemployment insurance is unaffordable

With deficits around $1 trillion dollars, and with unemployment benefits at $25 billion for three months (or $100 billion per year), that means that unemployment represents about 10% of the trillion dollar deficit. That's huge.

I can state, with perfect certainty, that unemployment benefits, however meager they may be, are a huge disincentive to looking for work. How do I know? Because I had to close 12 stores in Houston in 2008, and I wrote letters of recommendation for each and every one of my store managers in order to help them get jobs. I was informed by almost every one of them that they intended to take their unemployment benefits for as long as possible...and that is exactly what they did. When benefits were extended to 99 week, they stayed on unemployment. When the unemployment ran out, they started looking for work, only to find that employers correctly ascertained that they had just spent almost two years out of the workforce voluntarily, which calls into question their commitment to work and career.

Unemployment insurance is an unmitigated disaster for the unemployed.

Would be valuable if you

Would be valuable if you copied this post to the comment section at the bottom of the article. Real life examples skewer rhetoric.

Welfare is bad.

Short term, get back on your feet help is a good thing.
Perpetual welfare is BAD.

I venture to guess that is where Senator Paul is coming from.
Maligned in similar fashion to the way his father was...how not surprising.

Rubin's article is a great

Rubin's article is a great example of how "the press" supports and defends the state.

To say that the NSA did nothing illegal or wrong is beyond logic. What was even more unbelievable were the comments below the article supporting what she said! Good grief.

Paid shills populate all the major MSM comment sections

The same kind of shills that were hired by Nixon back in the 70s, only much, much worse.

Well, he might deserve a little credit for not bombing Syria or Iran yet and he did talk to Iran's new president so.....
don't get me wrong he's still the worst president in my lifetime. It seems each "new" administration that comes in is worse than the previous one.

"whether Rand Paul is an opportunist, uniformed or both"

Probably an opportunist... I've never once seen Rand Paul wear a uniform.

Apparently the author of this article is a Welfare STATIST!!!

This author of this article is "laughable" because she is a Welfare Statist of sorts. And I definitely am not a supporter of Welfare statists....
