What is the purpose of this forum?

The title of this forum is Religion, and its on a liberty website. I had a post discussing how a religion is at odds with liberty and it was locked.. So I ask, what is the purpose of having a religious forum? To pat each other on the back and be hive minded?

I just did

I locked it because it was doing nothing productive, regardless of how much time you spent creating it.

The forum is now gone. There is no longer a religion forum on the Daily Paul.

Please don't discuss religion here.

Thank you.

He's the man.

Michael, are you really

Michael, are you really saying you don't want discussion of religion here?

For me religion is so foundational -- whether you're Christian, Hindi, atheist. I've been drawn to libertarian thought (and initially to Ron Paul) precisely because the political philosophy is so into foundational thinking. It is the ever present rubbing of what I assume are my religious/spiritual beliefs trying to square with my developing political philosophy that I get most engaged in personally here.

Sure I read and view the latest news and participate in some of the bombs and letter-writing campaigns, but those are 5-minute endeavors. The bits about the DP that capture more long-term interest are where I'm uncomfortable, where one part of my thinking is rubbing against another. The post being discussed is a great example.

Although I haven't looked at any of the infowars-style, tinfoil hats posts for a while now, I still see titles that allude to such stuff and presume that content written by the addled brained for the addled brain is still fine and good here.

If you are really saying that you don't want people like me discussing things like religion, which is just a subset of philosophy, then I'm going to say goodbye.

Please elaborate.

Not Michael answering, but I hope to be found fair

Wistfulthinker, I don't believe the frustration that lead to the removal of the "Religion" forum title was a banishment of respectful discussions that include a faith perspective, but maybe I'm wrong.

Michael's request,"Please don't discuss religion here", does seem like a lot to ask of even the agnostics and atheists among us, but perhaps it was more of a polite request, rather than an edict of personal banishment if someone's too preachy. Michael, and the Mods, do have final say on what's posted on his virtual real estate here. No problem with that, even if at times I might not fully agree.

Perhaps some the threads I've posted, or the kind of bantering done by reply exchanges between those who differ with me, are among those you feel "uncomfortable" with. My purpose posting is always seeking common ground for as much mutual respect as I can find, while not abandoning any of what I've received and trusted to be accurate, wise, and healthy. Sometimes, I fail to communicate that well enough, or am just plain scoffed at when, to the best of my knowledge and heart, I've delivered the best reply that I could.

We've all experienced that kind of misunderstanding at times. When something as deeply personal and socially sensitive as the role that faith, (or it's absence/abandonment), has had in our lives; it easily makes many feel awkward when discussions here on The DP take certain directional turns.

I guess I'm one you might mock for my positive reviews and postings of Infowars News and perspectives from time to time, but please know that I've restrained many thread postings and replies at times, hoping to serve only the best interests of Liberty, while honoring both Dr. Paul's example, and Michael Nystrom's site purpose and prerogatives.

I, personally wouldn't want you to leave over what seems like a polite request, but maybe my post might help Michael elaborate, as we both requested him.

So what constitutes the new boundaries outside of "Religion"?

Hoping to learn what has bored you to tears, and/or grieved others so greatly that you've abandoned a subject category you once deemed worthy, and asked all of us, "Please don't discuss religion here. Thank you."

I don't like the narrow limitations that that title implies also, but sometimes it seemed like the only way to go besides, "Hidden Knowledge", eh?

Shit, Michael...The Granger is going to throw a massive bitchfit

Oh well. It will still be fun to see.

I have never attempted to tell MN what to do with his property and I have done my best to repect his rules.

Religion is interesting to me, but to call me religious would be a mistake. I did not bring up a little country because I cared about religion. I brought it up because I'm capitalistic and appreciate secular trends, investment opportunities, and genius.

I was shocked and awed to see a religious reaction. That led me to start investgating WTF was going on around here. Now I know.

I'm a political junkie and would like to see more of that and less religion.

I've always been open and honest about who I am and what I stand for (which is more than I can say for quite a few posers).

My sincerest thank you... :)

I am sure I am not the only one. It was usually an outlet for some form or other of bigotry, antisemitism, etc, and unless it was blatant, I always held my tongue because they posted it in "Religion".

Although I am sure it generated a lot of hits from those involved, and so it may prove counter productive. I'll do my part to make up for it be re-upping my subscription.

Thanks wolfe

Much appreciated.

My thanks, too.

As owner of The Daily Paul, Mr Nystrom has given himself the very difficult task of keeping a liberty oriented forum from disintegrating to an Internet brawl. I do not know where you get your patience, Mr Michael. While I do not always agree with how the website is run, I can say that overall it is well done.

I think that the Duck truck helped get us stuck in this muck!

We've had our times of peaks and valleys on religious themes from time to time, but some credit/blame ought to be tied to the escalation of traffic and participation in the whole Duck Dynasty flap, as well as the unprecedented levels of bipartisan evil being wholesale dumped on us, while most media sources fail to deliver really pressing news and remedies we ought to know and do something about.

I come to The DP often to find out what friends are up to, and learn from the excellent info and liberty inspiration gathered locally, nationally, internationally, and yes, even sometimes, heavenly and/or hellishly. When I believe it appropriate, I've been known to jump in where many fear to tread, but not to cause ill will with those I differ from.

It will be interesting to see how changes might work to restore more good will among us, but some things will never change this side of heaven.
