The Debate Question RP *SHOULD* Have Asked
"My question is for Mitt Romney."
"Mr Romney, John McCain has recently stated that he'd have absolutely no problem with U.S. troops occupying Iraq for the next 100 years. In justifying his position, McCain cited the fact that our military has occupied Korea, Japan and Germany for decades. Now, MY position is that we should immediately remove our troops from Iraq, and that having our troops occupy Iraq for ANY length of time - never mind a mindboggling 100 years - places Americans in greater danger of terrorism, places an enormous, undue burden on taxpayers, and needlessly endangers our soldiers. In addition, MY position is to remove U.S. troops from the 130 countries they occupy and close down our 700 overseas military bases, so that we can stop policing the world and finally start getting our financial house in order, including eliminating the Income Tax and IRS.
"Mr. Romney, what is YOUR position relative to McCain's "100 year war" outlook, and on continuing to station our troops in places like Korea, where we've been since I was in high school?"

His Question..
Dr. Paul's question to McCain was still very effective due to the fact it turned McCain into a blubbering idiot because he didn't understand the question one bit. If he asked your question McCain or Romney they might have been able to try to spin it off as protecting American lives. Although we disagree with it, they still could have made it sound like a respectful arguement. The question Paul asked McCain did get some media attention on how it made McCain look stupid, just rambling off a bunch of names.
If ANYONE knows Republican politics it's Ron Paul
10 terms- he's seen the changing of the guard and has been there a long time. His decision to ask McCain a question is very telling. He perhaps sees him as "the one to beat". And making him look clueless was brilliant. I love gee_blee's question- but the one Dr Paul asked was hand-crafted brilliance and can be dissected on so many levels. Look at Ron Paul's record- he dosnt tend to lose elections. Our part thanks to people like Bev Harris et al is to just keep it from being stolen. In football terms we need to provide good defense so he can run it in.
I agree...
I agree that asking "the one to beat", McCain, a question to make him look clueless was the strategy, but I prefer my question because:
1) It made McCain look clueless without giving him a chance to respond
2) It would've ALSO made Romney look clueless as he would've stumbled
3) It would've clearly differentiated RP from those other two
4) RP's question didn't contain any info on RP's position
The question that should be asked...
... is why Dr. Paul wasn't asked any questions?
We KNOW Why
1. They wanted to ignore Dr. Paul.
2. They FEARED Dr. Paul answering them.In just ASKING a question he thoroughly embarrassed McCain. How bad would the slaughter have been had one of them asked Dr. Paul something and given him a chance to respond?
i liked your question.
that's the way that questions should be asked.
