"I am Pentagon Papers leaker Daniel Ellsberg. Edward Snowden is my hero." on Reddit

Hi Reddit,

I am Daniel Ellsberg, the former State and Defense Department official who leaked 7,000 pages of Top Secret documents on the Vietnam War to the New York Times and 19 other papers in 1971.

Recently, I co-founded the Freedom of the Press Foundation. Yesterday, we announced Edward Snowden, NSA whistleblower, will be joining our board of directors!

Here’s our website: https://pressfreedomfoundation.org

I believe that Edward Snowden has done more to support and defend the Constitution—in particular, the First and Fourth Amendments—than any member of Congress or any other employee or official of the Executive branch, up to the president: every one of whom took that same oath, which many of them have violated.

Ask me anything.

Here's proof it's me: https://twitter.com/DanielEllsberg/status/423520429676826624

If you want to take action against mass surveillance, visit TheDayWeFightBack and demand reform in Congress on February 11th.

Where are the laws CRIMINALIZING subversion of the Constitution?

One thing which really has me puzzled is: How can it be that it isn't considered a high felony, AT LEAST, for an elected official - who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution - to be subverting it?

A President or Senator should have to answer WITH A SERIOUS PRISON SENTENCE OR WORSE for making ANY effort whatsoever to test or skirt the LITERAL interpretation and spirit of the law of the land.

B.S. answers and lawyer twisted logic should be met by a trial before oridinary citizens who are charged with only ONE question: Was there an attempt to pull a fast one in any shape or form? If so, life in prison, forfeiture of the offenders entire estate and any accrued benefits should be automatic. A twisted attempt at an "explanation" which doesn't pass common sense interpretation of the Constitution should be met with a doubling of the penalty.

But, instead, what our Public Serpents get is effectively encouragement to be a scofflaw. The worst that apparently can happen to them for deliberate breaking and attempting to subvert the highest law of the land is dismissal from office?

Were the Founders really such morons that they didn't know that the Constitution would be be under continual attack by termites? Where is the teeth in the law when it applies to the most important law of all?

Or is there some other explanation?

Bill of Rights /Amendment X: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Do you need a politician or judge to "interpret" those 28

after reading just a small

after reading just a small portion of the ama, i strongly feel the ama should be a part of refrenced history in the pentagon paper scandal

Direct communication with the public, honest questions with honest answers, and as it is in this case, more insight into past history, i freaking love it, and crave for it to become a standard, a "im surprised we did'nt do this before" revelation, i hope

Thankyou for the link, thankyou for spreading the word, thankyou for your watch on the tower, thankyou my guardians, thankyou my brothers

If he's serious about "Ask me anything"...

...I'd like to ask him what his thoughts are on Siebel Edmonds' questions about this whole thing. Since Snowden is on the board, he certainly should be reachable.

I will plan for this..

9/11 Truth.

OK so how old do we feel now? Daniel Ellsberg has to qualify?

Who? The guy who what?

Nothing. Just one of the faceless facebookless masses that lived and died in between the brontosauri and Justin Bieber. We'll be fossils on sale at Ebay in the blink of your...phone cam.

There is nothing strange about having a bar of soap in your right pocket, it's just what's happening.

Ellsberg is a man of

truth and so is Snowden and that makes them a threat to the criminal gvt and a hero to the people.

I wish someone would start an online petition to have Edward replace Clapper as head of the NSA. Would be interesting to see how many would sign that petition.

Daniel Ellsberg is one of my long time heroes

I am happy to see he is STILL making a difference after all these years.

For those who don't know, Ellsberg broke open one of the first so-called 'Conspiracy Theories', which exposed LBJ, Kissinger and Nixon as damned liars on Vietnam.

The 'Pentagon Papers' were a classified history of the Vietnamese conflict from about 1946 on, I believe it was someone in McNamara's office who was ordered to compile the report.

At the time, Ellsberg was public enemy number 1, called a traitor, there were calls to hang him for treason, etc. Same thing Snowden is going through in a way, though things weren't quite as bad then as they are now.

This is a juicy read!

This particular exchange is quite exciting...

At the risk of breaking Reddit, can you help us set up an AMA with Edward Snowden?

[–]ellsbergdPlantiff[S] 239 points 4 hours ago
That would indeed be great, historic. I'll look into it; but I'm doubtful its feasible, because Snowden can't do e-mail except on a highly encrypted basis. He doesn't want to reveal his exact whereabouts to NSA. But maybe there's some way to get questions to him in advance (I think this is possible) and have him answer them. As I say, I'll look into it. Great idea.

That would be VERY cool!

Thank you.

I hope you will excuse and forgive me for invading your thread and adding the banner to the top that links to The Day We Fight Back, which Mr. Ellsberg promotes at the end.

This is related to the Aaron Swartz documentary that I posted the other day:

Thank you for posting this. Bumped to the top.
