Open letter to NY Governor Andrew CuomoSubmitted by Smudge Pot on Sat, 01/18/2014 - 11:14
Dear Governor Cuomo,
First, a little musical accompaniment...
Now that we're establishing the mood, you are recently quoted as saying
Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.
You might not believe this but we kinda got the message a while back. You really don't like conservatives. You really don't like businesses either. And you really hate guns, no really, we get it, we really do. We don't feel safe in NYC and we try to avoid it any way we can. We don't feel safe in our persons and effects, we don't feel safe economically, we don't feel it's safe for our families or our friends.
It's a real shame for upstaters, the what? 5 or 6 farmers you have left and the hunting industry you used to be famed for. As far as your right to life, your attitudes were made clear when your cops beat the living snot out of those Occupy Wall Street kids and mass incarcerated them in deplorable conditions without charge. And we know what you are doing to black youth on the streets right now, every single day. We can't even count the constitutional violations you countenance before breakfast. Yeah we'll appreciate your "racial diversity via baton and taser" from afar thank you very much.
As far as gays go, and I know this is gonna feel rough going down (bad pun), if you promise not to tell anybody, the rest of us have gays too. I know it's gonna take some getting used to, the idea that you don't OWN GAYNESS, that you don't have a MONOPOLY on gays and you don't exactly represent them anymore than you do pelicans but it's a simple fact. For whatever reason or significance, God saw fit that gays be distributed ALL OVER THIS PLANET. It's one of the only reasons why, in this online era, there are still things such as shopping malls, karaoke bars and dinner theater ALL ACROSS THE USA FROM ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS SEA TO ABSOLUTELY FABULOUSLY SHINING SEA HONEY.
But if NY wants to go fullbore (another bad pun) "liberal", which you really aren't even that these days, you are simply a plutocracy, then it's my feeling to allow you to do so with abandon. See your "Wall Street" isn't an asset to us, it's a detriment from your front running the lending rates to your ponzis, pump and dumps and bustouts, your front running markets and your naked short sell manipulations, your central banks and various Bernankes and Krugmans running around like little baron princes, frankly the whole of Manhattan Island could just sink for all we care, we'd be overjoyed from an economics perspective. It really wouldn't change much except for Jersey's air quality might actually improve for once, all the really good parties have been in Brooklyn for the past 20 years so it's not like you risk what remaining ability you have to have fun like real humans are capable of doing. Long Island isn't worth fighting over for anybody who doesn't live there and Queens and the Bronx don't care about you any more than we do. Ditto Shao Lin.
In fact it's hard for us to find anybody that really cares about you outside of your own little Manhattan Island and the global predator corporatist powers who clearly don't care about America. So there you have it. We don't feel safe being there and neither do you and your social peers without private and public armies there to protect you, we really only have one difference and that is that you love your lifestyle meaning YOUR lifestyle not those of your peoples, and we don't. Choking down smog, smelling rotten garbage on the streets, drinking that liquid you people call water, the noise, the lack of sunshine on the street (the thing above the basements, there's no ground floors there, the ground is always a few stories under you), the naked human suffering and gross inequality, your dispositions which are notoriously caustic, see this is not our idea of a good time. Most of us would rather be dipped in shibbit than spend a day there. I'm perfectly willing you let you do your thing as long as you let the rest of us do ours. Take NY, you already rendered it useless for other purposes, sell it, pawn it, keep it as you please. Anything in trade for this one pretense that you represent anybody but yourselves.
Cordially (believe me),
