Dallas Morning News:

Dallas’ Toby Halbrooks just got from the Sundance Film Festival, where he showed his new short film “Dig.” What’s it about? a guy (Dallas’ Jonny Mars) digs a hole in his backyard. He draws attention. Kids watch him. A permit is demanded. He doesn’t have one. The police arrive. And that’s about it.

The film gained an immediate following, with one fan base is particular: The Ron Paul Website dailypaul.com has adopted it as a sort of libertarian manifesto. So there’s that.

What a bunch of snitches!

Those neighbors are pathetic. Not good people

Makes me ponder...

How many lifetimes have been spent trying to figure out what doesn't make any sense. If it doesn't make sense to a child it's probably bull.

this sort of reminds me of another short

I made a post for it:

“Although it was the middle of winter, I finally realized that, within me, summer was inextinguishable.” — Albert Camus

Just Watched It

...and Bumped It
...and enjoyed it...I was laughing joyously at the end.
Don't ask me why...I haven't figured it out yet.
Thanks Ed.

Thanks for posting this. This is why I come here.

...Hope you'll enjoy my response to your comment a few doors down the page here...the Camus thingy.

I hate to keep reading stuff into this but I can't stop.

Stop the video at 4:12. What is that in his rear pocket. I like to imagine it is pocket sized copy of the constitution. But if it is a big wallet, maybe he has a new c-note in there. The new $100 bill has the perfect excerpt taken from the constitution printed right on it. But on the negative side of that, they might consider that a bribe. Almost forgot . Had this thought at 3 am. He don't need no permit. He's already got one . Maybe it's in his pocket.

Stated many Times

...in the film..."Don't Need One"....."He Don't Need No Permit", various examples of that.
If he'd stated that he "got one' or "had one", it would change the entire scenario.
But you are correct in that this movie tends to "haunt" our thoughts, and is, for some strange reason, like a tune that keeps popping into one's head.....like the whistling at the end, beginning, I keep wondering "Where have I heard that before"?
The "Luminosity Commercial"?
Help me out on this one if you can.

I can't place tune, it is beautiful

But it reminds me of Starry starry night. Just put up nightly jamb session advertisement and all.

I love little children.

There minds aren't corrupted. They see the world as it is around them physically. They can't see the hole of debt that's has been dug . Debt should not be continually transferred to the next generation. I believe Thomas Jefferson had something to say on that.

While Don Quixote..

...sees life as it should be.

And who doesn't love children? You've plenty of company on that.

I'll look out for that commercial

I know my english is awfull but I did catch this. The little girl says don't need no permit , that's a double negative . I see how she is saying one thing but actually thinking another. Maybe some people will
see that as, no permit digging, we do not need. But she got down in the hole and started digging so I conclude she thinks we do not need a permit. This seems to me to be an allagory on how people can vote away their rights by not understanding the english language.

Don't Need No...

...is just a colloquialism....that "ism" being more commonly known as "slang"...all languages have their "slang" and "proper" forms.
I'll have to ponder your "take" on the movie's theme re;understanding English, and the theft of rights due to not understanding.
Interesting, thought.
Looks like I'll have to link to my satellite to catch a few commercials...the theme music is still haunting me.
This frigid weather makes for a good reason to.

Ponder here if you like.

I guess allagory is incorrect. But people are voting for this thinking it's one thing when it's something else. http://www.selfgov.net/

And another

This guy tells it better than anyone else I have heard. It's long but it is an eye opener. If you listen and believe. Everything I said will make sense. Hopefully.

So...Agenda 21, and the UN

...by virtue of "disguising" their "true agenda"...using LANGUAGE that most do NOT NOTICE...Enact POLICY that kills any property rights you might imagine that you HAD, or HAVE.
The youtube video is great!...really nails it, even if it is a tad lengthy.
And the "language" used:
GOVERNANCE ; which most will mistake for "Government".
Got it!
This subject deserves its very own thread, although it IS a BIG part of what this flick was about....that's fer sure!
Thanks!

You think and write very clearly.

I can't find the actual voter ballot but I saw it on youtube once. The PTB are funding all types of new sewer projects and hiring inspectors to come to see you. All sorts of new regulations that can be expensive for a poor man if he is not in conformance. Even if he is it means higher taxes from new direction the county government . And reduce price of his house no loans till it is fixed Smart meters means pay per flush or per turd. Whats a po boy gonna do. I don't know what the producers of this film are thinking . The colloquialism "dont need no" seems to be related to voters getting opposite of what they thought they were voting for. Home Rule or Limited self government I forgot which was on the ballot. Hope I made the language clearer. The tv show The Beverly Hillbillies was dead ass serious stuff. Ha Ha.

This?

Growing up in Lapine, Oregon...

as young elementary school kids, we dug this hole at the corner of Elderberry Rd. and Pine Forest. The remains can still be seen today. We dug a 6 foot circular hole and covered it with plywood, buried the plywood with dirt and had a ladder going down to the bottom. It was one of many underground forts we made. This hole was dug over many days and in plain site of any traffic passing. I understand the reasoning for having lines marked by utility companies prior to digging, but to be arrested for digging really brought me back to age 7.

Dig on! Be not afraid to dig!

Father - Husband - Son - Spirit - Consciousness

We'd All be Arrested Today It Seems

...for the "activities" my young friends and I joined together in as kids.
We also dug forts out in the woods.....
Steve Tyler (of Aerosmith) invited my brother and I into his "fort" in the woods behind his house...he also had a pet raccoon.
But I digress....
...yes the identification is there, the nostalgia prevails.

Great short film!

What hasn't been said! :) It is a great film! The thoughts that run through my head as I watched this movie..."What has become of our society?" The good old days...I've always heard someone talk about the good old days. I would think..well the new days don't seem so bad! ....and now I find myself talking about the good old days :)...lol! and wondering if it truly is the end of such memories for the coming generations.

Fear knocked on my door and Faith answered!

What Hasn't Been Said?

...well, I believe you've most adequately "filled" that empty space.

The use of children in the movie may have been a "vehicle" to elicit that nostalgic response.....it had that effect on me also.

When the last time any of us went to a cinema, and walked out, in deep thought about what we had just seen?.....
......those are usually the best films.

Isn't technology amazing........

I mean they sure can make the drone-cops look human can't they? I mean, after all, real humans wouldn't actually send out planes and cops over someone digging a little hole in their backyard now, would they?

Good, simplistic video to make one see how far things have actually gone.

Not Any More Likely

...than two FBI Agents would "happen" to fall out of a helicopter(?), or plane(?), while on a training mission.
(The same ones who shot Tsarnov's friend)
Nahhh...Not really...I guess? ;)

Brilliant

The whole time watching it I was trying to figure out the point and what it was about. I have never seen this idea so simply put. Great work, maybe others who see this will finally realize what we are about and the stand we are taking.
