Seahawks Players and Staff: ‘Jesus is Better Than The Super Bowl'

(CNSNews.com) - “Jesus is better than the Super Bowl,” says Seahawks Defensive Passing Game Coordinator Rocky Seto, and some Seahawks players are clearly in agreement.

Before their playoff run a group of Seattle Seahawks players sat down with the pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle for a videotaped discussion called, “Who is Jesus?”

“It’s no question he gave us everything,” Seto says during the group interview.

“Literally, one plus one equals two, it’s just that simple. Jesus is better than anything we could ever hope for, even better than the Super Bowl, better than an NFL career.”

The Seahawks played in one Super Bowl before (Super Bowl XL) against the Steelers and lost. I know because there were some questionable calls by the officials and I have hated the Steelers ever since...

God has NOTHING to do with all this worldlyism taking place!

His giving us ALL things, is in things eternal that are in Jesus Christ, NOT the worldly things in this life!

We are told to do all to the glory of God, not self!

These players are also very ignorant or they just don't really know the true and risen Lord Jesus else they would never bring Him into this ungodly world of pro sports and the like.

We are commanded to come out of the world and the things of the world!

Not all things are idols

The post that I made above was in response to the testimony of faith that those players made that knowing Jesus is better than winning the Super Bowl. The vaingloriously hyped event is unworthy to compare with the glory that He has revealed and will reveal, but because these players were bold enough to say so, I thought a positive post for them was appropriate, including the verse that specifically promises "all things" that God freely gives to those whom He spared not his own Son to redeem.

Sorry brother, but in your zeal to rebuke us, you put a private interpretation on that verse. True it's not a blanket promise for, "ALL things" this side of heaven, but I 'm certain it's not limited to, "things eternal that are in Jesus Christ", or it wouldn't have been posed to us the way it was.
"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither... things present, nor things to come,
...shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Ro 8:37-39

As I posted elsewhere, I didn't watch the bread and circuses theater stunt that they played well in, but instead helped a neighbor and did some winter pruning. I'm glad the testimony of these winners was clear enough to me to believe that Christ in them is their hope of glory, and that winning their rings still means less to them than casting their crowns at His feet.

All things come from God.

For some, these riches that they have achieved whether through honest means or otherwise, these riches drag many away from following Christ and keep them in the world!

THAT is what all this pro sports stuff is about!

We are told to seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and ALL these things shall be added unto you.

All what things?

All that we need to live in our short time here on earth.

He is telling us that God must be our hearts desire above all, and to keep to His commandments.

All that we will need in this life ( though it be little ) He will provide.

These ignore God's commandments in that these all violate the 4th commandment when working on the Sabbath and make many thousands of others to do so!

You can argue all you want for the worldly ways but God will not have any of it.

Where is the commandment that Sunday ought be kept the Sabbath? When you produce it we'll have reason to talk applications; otherwise, soldier, you've failed in your mission.

When the apostles pondered and prayed over what they ought to hold over to Gentiles of Old Covenant law; seventh-day sabbath keeping simply wasn't on the list. That doesn't exclude it from having extremely high-value, just not a salvation-pending acknowledgement, eh?

Acts 15:21 Implies they would be likely to...

learn the Torah and the rest of the Older Testament with the rest of them.

The laws cited were the 'bare minimum' required to learn under the Noahide covenant, as acknowledged by both believers in Jesus who were Jewish and those Gentiles who wished to convert.

The seventh day Sabbath, however, is a creation mandate, not a Jewish one.

You just don't get it do you..

Why are you even talking about the Sabbath? It was Saturday, and I rested just fine thank you. The Superbowl was on Sunday, not the Sabbath day.

You and I both know that anyone can cherry pick verses to prove that they are somehow 'more correct' than others. You can even have your own opinions about sporting events and any other events you wish. But what you CAN'T possibly do, is decide what other people think, feel, or worship as idols. That just makes you come off as a judgmental person who claims the power to know all and judge all.

I'm pretty sure we could scrape up a few verses to speak against the judgment of others, especially when you don't even know them, but rather base your judgment on something as silly as liking football or whatever. I've read more than a few replies, probably not from you, that claim anyone who watches football somehow 'worships' them, or puts them ahead of God. That is the stupidest thing I have ever read in my life. I would put that as more ignorant than anti theist telling me what the Bible says and means. You don't know these peoples hearts, let God judge them when He feels the need.

BTW my first reply was sarcasm, just in case you didn't catch it. I spend plenty of my time in study, and am very happy with my relationship with God.

Being, "all things to all men, that (we) may win some", is lost on some who prefer certain forms of doctrinal rectitude to the real life applications of the Holy Scriptures to the events affecting those around us we hope to reach, eh?

I'll take the challenge of the real, here, and guess that holbrook has bought into a doctrinal recipe that excludes certain clear teachings from Holy Scripture, only to over-emphasize certain views to the contrary.

As long as holbrook is not counting on keeping the sabbath to save him or keep him saved he is within bounds.

His judgement of the players faith was out of bounds

Holbrook can hold whatever persuasion he might about Sunday being the Sabbath, to the popular reading into scripture what isn't there, but when he tried to imply that these athletes had no testimony worth hearing, BECAUSE they played on Sunday; that's where I had to Biblically differ from him.
