Gun flight: BOOM! Smith & Wesson, Ruger Quit California Over Stamping Requirement

Gun flight: BOOM!! Smith & Wesson, Ruger Quit California Over Stamping Requirement

By Perry ChiaramontePublished January 24, 2014FoxNews.com

A new gun law proponents say helps law enforcement has driven Smith & Wesson and Sturm Ruger out of California, and affirmed the suspicions of firearms rights advocates that the measure is really about making handguns obsolete.

The two companies have announced they will stop selling their wares in the nation's most populous state rather than try to comply with a law that requires some handguns to have technology that imprints a tiny stamp on the bullet so it can be traced back to the gun. The companies, and many gun enthusiasts, say so-called "microstamping" technology is unworkable in its present form and can actually impair a gun's performance.

“Smith & Wesson does not and will not include microstamping in its firearms,” the Springfield, Mass.,-based manufacturer said in a statement. “A number of studies have indicated that microstamping is unreliable, serves no safety purpose, is cost prohibitive and, most importantly, is not proven to aid in preventing or solving crimes.”

There is nothing...

booming about this. It's actually pretty sad. The only people who got stiffed are the California public.

S&W largest contractor is California Highway Patrol. Since LEOs are exempt from microstamping, that means business as usual with CHP.

LE agencies don't do business with Ruger so anti-gun lobby could care care less about them.

But assuming that both gun manufactures have any principles, and stopped doing business in California completely, the agencies will switch to Glock the state's largest vendor and gun manufacture doing business with most LE agencies in CA or even Beretta.

This is a poor attempt to create demand for the sale of firearms, rally 2nd amendment advocates for law suites, pressure legislators to strike down the microstamping, and some dog and phony show. Not necessarily in that order.

The Libertarian Party, irrelevant since 1971.

I almost passed over this story

But the "BOOM" really drew me in. Well played, sir.

Save the California Republic

and so the American Republic.
Very simple.

Thank you for keeping us informed, emalvini.

thx El... boom :)

why anyone still wants to

why anyone still wants to live in California or New York is the question.

Most of us were born here.

Most of us were born here.
Some of us are on our way out :)

"You only live free if your willing to die free."

Please don't try

to get the ones in Ca or NY to want to move. The majority that move and go into a good state like AZ here they do everything they can to make us like the state they came from Look what they have been wanting to do in Co.

Why do they leave Cali then, if they try to make a new

state just like it? Doesn't make sense.

ozz speaks the truth!

here in AZ I've watched it for YEARS...
they get jobs in the public sectors...
cities and counties... city managers, planning, zoning departments
and bring their Cali 'innovations' / restrictions with them..
ugh... it's called 'Cali Creep' here.

I'm in AZ and have seen it as well.

It's the damnedest thing. They are upset about the actual outcomes of the policies they put in place, that made the state less livable, then come here and push to implement those very same policies. Like they say, you can't fix stupid. Einstein said that doing the same thing over and over, hoping for different results is the definition of insanity. He may have been talking about California ex-pats.

Not all of us

Californians want to be here. I'm a captive of circumstance!!!

How absolutely stupid is this law

and shows the mindless absurdity that is the California legislature. So if I go to a gun range and pick up micro stamped spent cartrigases and drop them at a crime scene the owner of the gun will be on the hook? Crimals are going to love this. Buy some microstamped reloaded ammo and shoot it from a non stamping gun and you can pin the crime on someone else. This law is absolutely useless in preventing or solving crimes.

What is to prevent someone from

replacing the firing pin with a non-etched pin? I assume the micro-etching could easily be ground off the pin and it will remain functional. If a revolver is used, and the spent brass casing is not left at the crime scene, the traceability goes away there too.

Since our overlords, the LEOs, are exempt, it sounds like California is OK with them getting away with murder, or a murder not being traced back to a LEO misplaced weapon.

[F]orce can only settle questions of power, not of right. - Clyde N. Wilson

It's possible primers could be altered during manufacture or

afterwards, to further reduce effectiveness of microstamping.

In a study linked below, the presence of lacquer on some of the tested primers caused problems with microstamping.

It's pretty stupid. Any micro etch can be ground right off with some smooth sandpaper like sharpening a knife.

Nice post,Emal. But isn't the whole "BOOM" thing getting a little played out already?

Yea, It Is But That's My Big Thing...

Don't rain on my parade...

boom on bro..

I haven't logged in forever but saw this comment and had to....

I've long come to the determination that any thread that contains either "WHOA" or "BOOM" is Emalvini... I make it a game when I see either of those words... I say to myself... "I bet it's another thread by Emalvini" click on it, and what do ya know... Emalvini... as far as content evaluation... 75% not "BOOM" worthy or "WHOA" worthy... the other 75% of the time... its from Drudge. Peace \ /

Somewhere there are men planning the next destructive and evil ploy to make this world their own... The common man is not part of that plan as we would see fit... Merely pawns to be used against one another.

Ron Paul on his son Rand Paul:
"he does a lot of things similarly, but I think he does everything better. Than I have done over the years,"

Truth is

California is the land of fruit's and nut's. Both literally and not!

Way to many minorities, Luciferians & Atheist's here trying to push there own agenda's. The laws and statutes are piling on top of each other.

California is a NANNY STATE. That does not give a shit about anyone. Especially small business owner's.

REASON WHY? They have so much foreign investment, they really don't care if a America citizen or corporation every live here!

California is the biggest S**Thole on the planet for anyone trying to start a business! I know from experience!

ALERT!! The Great California Purge Is Coming!

We are in a rEVOLution..

Calling on the Sons Of Liberty in California..

Time to remove the Nazis in California before they remove us...
