4000-Year Old Tablet Reveals New Details About Noah's Ark

Jan 24, 2:58 PM EST

LONDON (AP) -- It was a vast boat that saved two of each animal and a handful of humans from a catastrophic flood.

But forget all those images of a long vessel with a pointy bow - the original Noah's Ark, new research suggests, was round.

A recently deciphered 4,000-year-old clay tablet from ancient Mesopotamia - modern-day Iraq - reveals striking new details about the roots of the Old Testament tale of Noah. It tells a similar story, COMPLETE with detailed instructions for building a giant round vessel known as a coracle - as well as the key instruction that animals should enter "two by two."

Really Guys? In 2014 we are STILL having this debate?

THINK FOR YOURSELF. Remember, Santa Claus is not real, neither is the Easter Bunny.

Okay so...
Everyone was evil? Even newborn babies? The unborn? The deaf/mute? The mentally ill? The sick and afflicted?

How did a 600-year-old guy build a football-stadium-sized boat using only trees and pitch?

What about specialized diets for the animals? Bamboo for the giant pandas? Eucalyptus for the koalas? Meat for the carnivores? Plants for the herbivores?

Where was the food stored? How did it keep from spoiling?

How did penguins, polar bears and other arctic animals travel thousands of miles and then survive in the middle east heat?

How did eight people over 500 years in age shovel thousands of tons of animal waste out of a 450-foot-long boat with a single window?

Why didn't the toxic mix of fresh rainwater and salty seawater kill all of the lake and ocean creatures?

Why did Noah have to send a dove to find land when Noah and God were on speaking terms a few verses before?

If the ark had no rudder, no motor and no sail, what difference did the dove make? Seeing land would have had no bearing on the ark's final resting place.

When the ark landed, with all animal and plant life on earth dead, what did the humans and animals eat?

Was incest really part of God's plan for repopulation? And how did we end up with thousands of various ethnic groups in only 4,000 years?

Why did the worthy protagonist of this story spend his latter years naked, drunk and in disgrace?

Why the elaborate flood? Why not just vaporize the evil humans and skip the flood?

Enter two by two you say ?

1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.

3 Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.

what dose it say about sevens ?

Life is a sexually transmitted disease with a 100% fatality rate.
Don't Give me Liberty, I'll get up and get it myself!

What I enjoy about te majority of the anti Bible comments

Is not the argument that a great being could create all the animals, life, and man, but how inconceivable it is that the same great being could make the animals all go to one boat a man and his family built when the same great being asked him to.

The Beast Man, The Devil's Pawn

Man was created on the 6th day (Genesis 1.27, 31);

Man’s appointed days for work is 6 (Genesis 1.24-31);

A Hebrew slave was to serve 6 years and then released (Deuteronomy 15.12);

For 6 years the land is to be sown and to rest during the seventh (Leviticus 25.4);

The work of the Accuser is seen in connection with the 6th vial in Revelation 16.12-14. And is also seen in connection with the sounding of the 6th trumpet in Revelation 9.13-20.

The number 6 has to do with man and the manifestation. The express purpose of the Anointed One was to MANIFEST (give Father's Word a body) that He might destroy the works of the Accuser, 1 John 3.8. That which is manifested is under the power of The Accuser, this too is affirmed in this scripture.

The number 6 is the realm of the sensate and its weaknesses.

The number 6 is the realm of the Accuser’s evils.

The number 6 is the realm of no Torah and lawlessness.

The activity and results of the number "6" appears to culminate in "666."

God Plans The Flood

6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

6:10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

6:14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

The significance of the rainbow:

In Daniel 3.1-30, Nebuchadnezzar, a type of those who seek to “deify” themselves or someone else, erected a “Golden Image”, typical of himself, and commanded the rulers and people to fall down before it and worship it under penalty of death. The dimensions of Nebuchadnezzar’s image is worth noting: It was 60 cubits high and 6 cubits broad. Soon the “Image of the Beast” will demand allegiance, and labor forecasters will command the people – the working class or slave force – to do what it says (that is, worship it; Revelation 13.3-18).

Revelation 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

Revelation 13:7 And it was given unto the beast to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the earth.

Revelation 13:9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

This will be a time of completion for all men.

Revelation 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

Revelation 13:17 And .. no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

In other words, the time of man will be complete – hence the number “666".

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

The number 666 equals the epitome of the evils of the sensate man, and at once the epitome of Yisrael's sins toward the Father. This time is similar to, but allegedly not quite as bad as, the time of Noah and the reason for the flood when wickedness and evil and perversion ran rampant threatening the seed of Yahweh, and the whole earth was polluted with its rottenness and had to be destroyed, except His seed, Noah and Shem. Then Father did it with water, this time He will do it with fire. This is another aspect of 'immersion in fire.' (See Matthew 3.11).

You mean Yawheh actually killed all the children and babies?

Forget the PLAUSIBILITY of an ark. That issue is thoroughly covered, and thoroughly laughable.

But the moral/ethical conclusion that you must draw if you propose a physical Noaharkian flood initiated by Yahweh...

Is that Yahweh killed every person, baby, child, man, and woman on the planet, minus Noah and his family.

Yes, Yes, Yes and.........

The worse is soon to come to all who mock His Word and His name and will not repent of this!

Both for all who are alive, and all who have died as unbelievers as they will be resurrected from the grave to stand guilty before Almighty God in all their sins that they would not repent of!

Jesus Christ is soon to come and will destroy not only ALL the wicked who believe not on His Word that He has given all mankind, but this earth and the entire universe that He created by His very Word, will also be destroyed with fire by His very Word.

There is still time to seek His mercy, but it is fast running out!

Forget all those nay-sayers.....Seek His face today while you still have the breath of life in you!

Time is short, Eternity is not!

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Jesus Christ is soon to come and will destroy...

The savior destroyer.

Zecharia Sitchin said Noah's boat was round 40 years ago.

Sitchin said it was a round submersible and tumbled in the water, was made of wood, rope, and bitumen. He wrote about Noah or Utnapishtim in Akkadian account and Ziusudra in Sumerian account, in his great book "The 12th Planet" written in 1976.
According to Sitchin, the biblical term "teba" stems from the root "sunken", which he concluded the boat must have been a submersible or submarine type boat; and Enki told Utnapishtim "Let the boat be a magurgur", which meant a boat that can turn and tumble.

Of course it matters not one iota the shape of the boat except it being round gives more validity to pre-biblical accounts of the Great Flood, in which an assembly of gods determined an imminent flood would be opportunity to rid the Earth of Mankind if they do not inform Earthlings; but the god Enki/Ea/Yahweh told Utnapishtim/Noah to build.

Btw, there is a prequel to the Great Flood story, and it is that the gods first tried to rid the Earth of Mankind by starving them to death for many years, then Noah's pleading to Enki/Yahweh to intercede finally worked and Enki said: "Make a loud noise in the land, do not revere your gods, do not pray to your gods or goddesses." There was to be total disobedience.
Wow! Ya gotta love this story. Enki/Yahweh demanded civil disobedience to regain freedom from oppressive government. We should take this to heart.

So we are one step closer to learning the truth that there is not one god of the bible but a pantheon of gods, and the god or hero of most of those biblical stories was the god called Enki or Ea, who is our Jehovah or Yahweh. 100 years from now Sitchin will be read as much as our Bible is today.

I have heard this account as

I have heard this account as well. I read that way back the Earth did not have the oceans we have today but small seas. (The earth was much smaller then as well but that is another subject but surprisingly plausible). There was a great war between the Gods or Aliens etc. and the Earth was nearly destroyed. The moon was brought here to stabilize the Earth and keep it together which somewhat explains how the moon is such an astrological anomaly.

Mars had life too but the war destroyed its atmosphere and created the desolate place there is today. There was also another planet that had great oceans but it was totally destroyed and the water was pulled in to Earth causing the great deluge or flood. The asteroid belt is the remains of this planet.

It is also said that a quarantine barrier was put around the earth and the remaining aliens who survived the war have been working with the elite since the dawn of civilization to build back the tech to leave. In the bible these are the Nephilim and explains how the ancient people worshiped the ruling class like Gods in Egypt and why the blood lines are to be kept pure even today. I guess that explains why we are hell bent on technology while caring little for the environment and why we do stupid things like detonate numerous nukes in our atmosphere. I have also heard that gold is a necessary mineral for their tech and that is a reason why so much gold is now unaccounted for in the world.

Perhaps the elite are to be given eternal life through technology and ultimate rule over the rest of us once the aliens complete their goal?

Not that any of this is necessarily true or you have to believe it but it is interesting food for thought.

We all share this eternally evolving present moment- The past and future only exist as inconsequential mental fabrications.

More believable to me...

Ziusudra carried the essence (DNA, sperm and ova) of animals.

When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign: that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. ~J. Swift

This is not describing the ark of Noah at all, but a scrambled

version of the story. Noah's ark was built from gopher wood, whatever that it, and bitumen. Also, the ark was a rectangle, not round. It was also multi-level and probably much longer than a soccer field, around 500 feet long. This is about 5/8ths the length of the Titanic but similar to the Titanic in breadth.

A tie-in to this story is that the ark was divided into compartments or sections which are described by a word used for "bird nests". That is, the compartments within the Ark were a lot closer to a round thing made of reeds than the Ark itself. It makes me wonder if the the timbers were reused later, and the "nests" were pulled out, and later when people described the nests from the ark it was confused with a description of the Ark itself, especially in a world with similar-looking river craft.

Whether the flood was "global" in a modern sense or only in the sense that "world wide" meant to a writer of antiquity is another question. The English translations of the text make it seem like it means global in the modern sense, but there are disputes about that in the original text. The "modern global" reasons are well know, but here is an interesting look at the scriptural case for a "local" flood http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/localflood.html

I strongly question the scholarship of the Doctor in this article if he thinks the Hebrews got the story of the Flood from the 6th century BC captivity. The Hebrews were descended from a man who hailed from "Ur of the Chaldees" from over a thousand years prior to that. IOW, he was from the same area. The Hebrews would have already had a flood story, because Abraham had one. Which account is closest to the original version of events is a different question, but I will say that the Hebrew version of events of antiquity describes even their heroes as very human and prone to mistakes, while the Babylonian stories make their great men out to be demi-gods.

Localism is for people who can still sleep at night even though somebody they don't know in a city they have never been is doing things differently. ("Localism, A Philosophy of Government" on Amazon for Kindle or Barnes and Noble ebook websites)

That was an interesting article on Noah

Much was lost in the translation. The flood was not global, but local so the animals had to be local too. We know today there was a flood in that area, so people should not be so quick to discount the flood story in the bible.

I do doubt that the Ark was a rectangle, it was more likely an oval. In a rectangle the stresses at the corners would be too great, the vessel would tear apart. Like a Roman arch the stress needs to be transferred to the ends, so round or oval is the only way to build a wood boat.

Why don't you ask god if the Ark was a rectangle or an oval?

Then report back to us so we will know for sure.

Ouch! Because I know enough about wooden boat construction to

know what works and doesn't work. It's an old shipwrights saying, "A square boat don't float" LOL
Speaking of square corners, maybe we should file the edge off a tad?

What did they do with all the animal feces and

how did they keep the natural predator/prey species from attacking each other?

too bizarre that people in the 21st century still beleive such non-sense.

remember this? does religion have an agenda...of course it does...and 70% of americas still proudly stay lined right up.

Attorney General Ashcroft has stated in a public sermon (he is a lay preacher of the Pentecostal church) that Muslims are “agents of the Anti-Christ” and must be destroyed in the so-called “Battle of Armageddon”. According to the beliefs of fundamentalist Christians, this battle will be fought over Israel’s existence and will lead to the end of the world and the return of Christ.

To Go213---Crates & compartments---like a floating ZOO!

As far as the return of God, the true Church of God makes no claim as to when God will return. All the Bible says is that God will return "like a thief in the night" when people least expect it.

Technically, it says that he comes like a thief in the night to those who are not looking. But those who keep watching will know the times and the seasons; just not the hour.

There was a post above that was riddled with inaccuracy - but half of these 'Anti-Christian' or 'Bible Nay-Sayers' haven't even attempted to read the book that they wish to tear apart. Instead they tear apart the 'stories' they've heard about the Bible, and what has been passed down. For reference, one huge inaccuracy is people saying there were only two of each animal - the Bible gives more numbers, how many clean, how many unclean, etc. It wasn't just two. And all that takes is reading the story just once.

Excellent point you make!

Yes, it says so in 1 Thessalonians 5, Hebrews 9:28, Titus 2:13 and many other verses about His soon coming and our waiting for Him!

We who are His, know that the time is very near and keep watch!

This is on my heart daily!

Keep posting that wonderful Truth as you are moved!

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Good question go213mh

I have another for you....How in the world did this poor soul named Noah, get all those animals to come to the ark?
Did he lasso them, did he set traps, just how did he do it?

The answer to all these impossible tasks is that "God" did this!
It was He who gave Noah the building plans,
It was He who made all those needed animals to come to Noah willingly and into the ark.

It was He who made the aminals to be subdued.

It was He who flooded the ENTIRE earth so that the waters were about 23 feet over the highest mountain top.

This whole matter although it was an actual historical event, is a picture of what is to come, and that ark was a picture of Christ who alone can save, and all who are in Him will be saved from that great day to come.

God gave man this account as a ((( WARNING )))

Just as Noah built that ark, God, is building His church, and when it is finished ( just like the ark ) He will bring total destruction not of the earth only, but of the very heavens with fire and the elements will burn with fervent heat.

That day is coming soon!

Come unto Me", saith the Lord, "and I will give you rest"

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

I went to a local grassroots meeting recently to give a presentation on Financial Permaculture and before the meeting started a member was talking about some controversy at a Primitive (Hardshell) Baptist Church not far from us.

Apparently someone accused the Reverend of being in the KKK and he was told about it. He started the service as usual that morning with a prayer, but when he finished his face became a blood-red with rage. Not all that different than his usual sermon, but something was different this day.

He began "Someone in this room has accused me of being in the KKK and I declare that is a lie and whomever is the blasphemer shall be held accountable here on Earth and before Peter! I command you to reveal yourself and beg for mercy!"

No one stood, everyone looked at each other with fear and suspicion.

He reiterated "If you reveal yourself and admit that you are a liar and a sinner, then you have the chance at salvation and mercy, but if you don't your lying filthy soul will be committed to the fiery depths of Hell and Damnation for ETERNITY!"

No one stood, and then the Reverend started slamming his hands on the pulpit and screaming in tongues that no one could quite decipher, but they knew what he meant. When he gasped for a breathe of air he stopped and stood silent as a young shapely women (the wife of the Sunday School teacher) slowly stood, everyone staring in disbelief, she said "Please, please Reverend forgive me, I didn't say that you were in the KKK, I said that you were a Wizard beneath the Sheets."

And then they all went to Heaven.

The End.

Noah's Ark sank.

All animals two by two?

Where did he get two platypi, two wombats, two eastern diamondback rattlesnakes, two coral snakes, two pandas, two kodiak bears, two North American cougars, two tapirs, two ocelots and whatever else from the other five continents that the middle eastern witch doctors didn't know existed.? He didn't. When in the bloody blue blazes is this colossal myth going to die and stay dead?

The dimensions of this fictional ark should tell the mystics that it was impossible to fit two of every creature on board with sufficient forage to keep them all alive for forty days and forty nights.

It only takes one to KEEP AMERICANS FREE. Know your duties & rights as a juror. Stop the unconstitutional conviction of innocents in federal custody. The Fully Informed Jury CALL 1-800-TEL-JURY www.fija.org IMMEDIATELY if not sooner. It's that important.

To Ronb---tell that to the Donner party!

The Donner party survived from November to April on practically nothing in freezing weather, so don't suggest that we couldn't live or that animals can't live for 40 days without food. Of course, they could.

Didn't the Donner party end up eating each other?

We all share this eternally evolving present moment- The past and future only exist as inconsequential mental fabrications.

Two of each kind

The text is specific about including different *kinds* of animals, not species. In my crude and unscientific terms, you only need one "cat" kind, one "dog" kind (includes wolf genome, etc.), one "bear" kind, etc. to contain the entire genetic backlog for reproducing many species.

Also, you could fit young elephants/girrafes, etc. instead of bringing their full grown adult size. That would be a smart move for saving space and still allowing for re-population.

So you're talking about some kind of accelerated Evolution?

So you're talking about some kind of accelerated Evolution and organized migration of the millions of species to areas that suit their bodies and diets?

Did Mt. Everest exist at the time of the flood?

Did the miles of ice cap on Antarctica form in just a few thousand years?

How did the Fresh water and Salt water fish (the ones that can't survive in salt or fresh water respectively) cope with the adjustment in salinity? How about frogs and other amphibians?

Are we all descendents of of Noah's grandchildren?

Plants are another area where many questions arise.

The Story of the Flood along with Jonah and the Whale create more questions than they answer. It is a double edged sword. By insisting these stories are fact, as written, Christians lose an opportunity to spread Christ's Teachings, which is the important thing, right?

On the other hand, if the faithful explain that some of the Bible is fictional, THE WORD OF GOD is questioned and those doing the questioning are ostracized and they probably start asking lots of other questions that lead to more of the Bible seeming fictional.

Providing theories on how fantastic/outrageous events might have played out will only lead to more judgement and questions.

My understanding is that the Great Flood came about

because of a swift ending to the ice age. I don't see how Christ's teachings would be hurt if a Noah story is considered factual. Did Christ speak of Noah?
The Bible is a compilation of books taken from previous books, and every story in the Old Testament was "edited", "abbreviated", "misinterpreted", "put a spin on", "encrypted", or "truth hidden"; call it what you want but the Flood story, Garden of Eden, Sodom/Gomorrah story and many more were written thousands of years before the Bible stories were put together, and each were written differently then their biblical counterpart. As we all know very well History is written by whoever holds the biggest stick.
But God's word, His blueprint of how to live, remains intact.

Some Christians can be so in your face

Some Christians can be so in your face about defending the less believable stories from the Bible, that the Teachings of Christ take a back burner. A good friend of mine hates Christians because of the fire & damnation doctrine many espouse. I brought up the teachings of Christ, and he had to agree they are good lessons, but he still attributes Christians with Fire & Brimstone instead of Peace and the Golden Rule.

Not a big deal to me, I'm not Christian (though I follow the teachings of Christ). I just think Christians would spread their message better if they laid off the Jonah & the Whale, Flood, Sodom etc stories and focused more on the Golden Rule type stuff.

Two by two?

If you feel the need to criticize, please take the time to read the complete story from the original - not some Hollywood version.

Exactly. Genesis 7:2 - "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female." Not exactly the two of each story that some idiots created along the way, because they became too lazy to read the actual text.
