I Cut The Cord

Last week, after endless lies, promises never kept,we told Direct TV just where they could shove it. Now we are using a bat wing type antenna and rabbit ears..(both on 1 tv) and we will be getting Roku soon.So my main question is:For an apartment, where I can not have an outside antenna, what is the best one to get to pick up the strongest signal? The stations around me run between 25 to 60 miles away in distance. The set up I have in my living room, which faces north, shows 22 channels..only in early morning (2am-4am) and only if the sky is clear. Right now on this semi cloudy day, Im getting 13 channels.
So really..whats the best antenna with the strongest signal?

Also..going back and forth with DTV, they sent me an email stating my balance was $. That's it. No dollar amount. But, they sent me a bill for 108.00 in the mail.
We feel with everything they put us through, just in the past 6 months, they should call it a wash.
We paid for tech service to come out if we needed them.Funny..we made several calls, had 5 appointments set up, and no one showed. They have no record of the calls either.
We got a call stating our bill was 400.00 because we had been ordering movies from the tv. Funny again..we haven't had a phone line in 5 years, and we never order movies..(there free at the library) Again..no record of the call.
We where promised because of all the trouble, our 2nd year would be lowered to the price of the 1st year...No record of the call.
I myself spent at least 15 hours (more I believe) on the phone with them getting switched around, put on hold, told 20 different things, all lies, only to have to call back.
I have sent countless emails to the point, they refuse to deal with me now.
Can I use that $. to fight any charges they try and put against us? I just got my credit up and don't want it to go down..but I will if I have too.
I have also reported them to the FCC and BBB.
Any advice?

thats what I notice most

when I go places where TV's are on. Stupid people doing and saying stupid things. It always funny too that I've never seen any of the commercials that come on. I'm sure they play over and over again like they did when I used to watch TV but now...all of them are new to me...and incredibly lame.

I'll be somewhere next week where the superbowl will be on TV but even watching that circus is painful to me. lol

"Stupid people doing and saying stupid things"

This resonates with something I've been mulling for a while. We are conditioned through this TV "programming" to think that stupidity is amusing, and thus should be emulated.

We are given huge amounts of insurance, insinuating that we can behave recklessly[1], that our actions have reduced consequences because we can just fix everything with printed money.

But my concussion isn't going away no matter how much they print. So I've a personal anecdote against irresponsibility.

It seems that we're being conditioned to accept defeat. That's weird to think, but it seems to align with the stated goals of the NWO, depopulation.

I'd like to join a group of smart people doing and saying smart things. In fact, I think I'm already here.

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

Can you imagine

anyone paying $2000 for a ticket to see the super bowl circus? I follow college football, but if I can't get the content online free, I'm not that addicted.

I get the same cringe

The worst is seeing my extended family still having their brains sucked out of their head by television. There seems to be no amount of reason that will bring them back from the abyss. It's so sad...

Glad you cut the chord. Now you get to find your own experience of the world...

I had similar problems with AT&T.

I read somewhere about a "fractal tv antenna,"

i.e., homemade. A lot of tutorials show up on google. I just came across this one, too (not with a fancy fractal shape, just plain old V's):

Things of nature

things that look like nature, the pattern of branches on a tree
The looks of an evergreen tree, the simple blade of grass,a snowflake
All of these things when patterned after nature work for antennas
and darn good ones, I recently made a CB antenna, patterned after the evergreen tree(the simple triangle, and it works with .05 tolerance!!

Makes one wonder...

What were snowflakes designed to receive?

And how might we manipulate this mechanism?

One could

make a template with pins in the shape of a snowflake. Then take
wire and go around them pins, and see what kind of reception one would get
Or just some simple designs, say leaves of a tree, have some fun,you might be surprised by the results
as you know, that snowflake is a fractal, just as everything in nature is.Nature has a great way of getting along with itself, and staying in harmony
People,not so much

Let it ever not be said, that I never did not do nothing for you.

This may help...

Good work. Pay the bill.

Congratulations. A friend of mine did the same thing. He's getting local TV over the airwaves with a big antenna that he got at Radio Shack. I don't know what kind it is.

As for that outstanding bill, my advice is that if they say you owe them money, pay it and be done with them.

I had a similar situation with Verizon in 2008. I cancelled the cable. They said I still owed $40. I went back and forth with them.

I'd get the bill, call up, and the guy on the other end said he couldn't see the balance. Their system was all screwed up - "Well, this is the phone department. It is possible that the bill is being generated by the cable department. Let me transfer you to them."

Cable department: "No, your account is clear. It might be the internet department. Let me transfer you to them."

Internet department: "No, it looks like everything is fine here. It might be the phone department. Let me..."

Me: "No, I just talked to them. I've talked to everyone. So what about this bill?"

Verizon: "You can just tear it up."

So I did. Got a few more. Threw them away. And then: Zap! I get a past due notice, and an "account not paid" flag on my credit report! And once it goes on there, it is impossible to get off.

Anyway, just a friendly suggestion. Pay the money and be done with them. You've already spent 15 hours on the phone. You can spend another 15, but it is 15 hours of your life that you're never going to get back.

I Owe Part Yes

For a year we paid for the Tech Support Plan at 8.00 a month.
For 6 months they kept saying they would send out Tech Support 5 different times and didn't. You see..our signal would drop multi times a day (between 1-7) Sometimes for a minute..sometimes half a day. I sat here and waited on them 5 times..they never showed..they never called..then when I called..they had no record of the call..and I would tell them the date and time I had called..still..nothing. I don't think we should pay for a service we never got..That to me brings the bill down to 60.00
Now, theres the other charge we got. We where charged 24.00 for the HD/DVR service. We never got them. Not from day 1. That should bring the bill down to 36.00. And 36.00 is what we do owe for 1 month.
I got a call while ago saying the bill was a mistake, we owe 3 months for non payment. That is 100% CRAP We always paid it..on time..never late..and we always over paid a few dollars each month.(Yes..I have the proof) But the caller also stated my service is still on. I was up last week (last Sunday) at 2am..couldnt sleep...at 4am..it was cut off.
I have an email stating they will not charge us an early disconnect fee. But the caller now says they want it. All this..but the extra crap they are adding..is coming to a grand total of 529.95
I be damned if Im paying that.

If you don't care about your credit, tell them to piss off.

I had a co-worker who never owned a home and lived on cash only, and whenever creditors would try to screw him in these situations, it just hit his credit and that was it. The funny thing is that his credit was still relatively good (over 700) because he had zero debt to his name.

Pulling the plug is easy. Just utilize your PC for the stuff you actually WANT to watch instead of the crap they put on the channels 90% of the time. Try tvmuse to watch shows you enjoy, or buy the seasons on amazon/vudu/etc. Netflix fills in 90% of the gap for $8 bucks a month over broadband for most of the stuff I watched long ago. These days I watch much less TV than I used to. I am just glad i'm no longer contributing to CNN/FOX propaganda budgets.

I have Amazon Prime and they have some shows as well with no commercials. If you have an xbox 360 you can just run everything on that. I do hate TV for the most part but have been watching American Pickers a lot lately, it is really a great show as I love buying and selling stuff on craigslist.
