Do you enjoy pork? Then don't worry about collapse, you'll love being a cannibal!

According to an interesting tidbit in a book I have read, and internet searches, human flesh tastes like pork. There is no definitive answer, and I am assuming at least half of you guys are not already cannibals.

So I have some questions for the DP Brain Trust.

Is pork considered unclean by jews and muslims because back in the day it was so prone to carrying disease, or was it common knowledge that pork was similar to human flesh?

Also for the biblical scholars out there, I am aware that one of Jesus's miracles was to make a herd of pigs run themselves out into the ocean and drown themselves. Not a pro-pig tone. So why is it that Christians eat pork, when the Muslims, and Jews do not?

Does this post make you question my sanity? Does my post make you wonder why you hang out on the net at a place where a guy like me hangs out? Ha ha ha.

I would say

"it was so prone to carrying disease"

It still is if you ask me.

Hear, O Israel: YHUH our God YHUH one. And thou shalt love YHUH thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

that it is similar

"or was it common knowledge that pork was similar to human flesh?"

I believe that to be the case. [Aside from human] Pork is the meat most difficult for humans to properly digest, although it may be the most beneficial when properly and fully digested. A pig's genome is so close to human that our bodies are fooled into not fully breaking down the proteins. Relatively unmolested porcine protein disrupts human protein function much like malware disrupts your computer.

Makes sense if you consider

Makes sense if you consider pig heart valves being transplanted into humans.

yes, it's much the same principle at work

The "because they are filthy" rationale only goes so far, despite being tempted to think "nuff said" when taking in Rebel Poet's video below. But the truth is that all animals are filthy, all animals [and their meats] carry parasites. Certain parasites are better adapted to certain animals, and as such, with humans being so akin to pigs, more parasites well adapted to pigs are well adapted for transfer to humans than many parasites adapted to other animals.

It is a bit prejudiced and

It is a bit prejudiced and narrow minded to presume we aren't cannibals. Check your biases at the door.

I only guessed that over half

I only guessed that over half were not cannibals, I was working under the assumption the other 49% of you guys were.

: D Never assume. Just

: D Never assume. Just messing with you sethr. I would never eat pig.

Seriously it's called EPISTOMOLOGY

which by it's very definition should cause you to stop and ask yourself how it is you know what you know or indeed how you THINK you know what you know.

That is an epistomologically sound answer and for the next one we shall rely on purely culinary talents which as you know are infinitely subjective. To whit:

we do indeed already know what you taste like. Do you know what it's like to be eaten?

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

I can imagine what it is like

I can imagine what it is like to be eaten, is my vision based on some kind of collective human memory that has been imprinted in us? Part of the original software I came with, as opposed to the programs that have been installed by my environment?

I've had several girlfriends who've truly enjoyed being.........

Ooops - wrong site!

Mmmm man meat...

lmao. Well this is a good

lmao. Well this is a good time to ask the voluntarists: if cannibalism is voluntary, is it okay?

The domestic pig is supposed

The domestic pig is supposed to be a GMO that's a hybrid of the wild boar and human. That's why religions don't eat them. It would already be cannibalism.

As a genuine BBQ connoisseur, and as a Jew...

...I do not keep kosher.

I love BBQ ribs, pulled pork bbq, chopped pork bbq, hash & rice, etc., etc., etc....

Of course I could probably stay kosher and stick with Texas style beef-ribs and bbq brisket, but to me bbq beef ribs just don't compare to pork.

Anyway... You question is one that I have specifically asked myself many times, and no Rabbi or anyone has been able to answer with confidence.

Is pork not kosher/halal because it is so close to human flesh, even genetically. We know pigs are often used to simulate human flesh in all kinds of tests.
We also know that cannibalism, when a species eats the flesh of it's own kind, often results in disease, and genetic birth defects in the next generation, in mammals, including humans.

So, did G-d know this to be true, and ordered his people to not eat pork because of genetic pollution? Maybe, as I said I had also come up with theory, long ago.

The 'official' answer to the 'reasoning' behind the law I believe, is that when it was passed the Hebrews were wandering through the desert looking for the Holy Land Israel. G-d knew that if they raised pigs, they would have to settle in one area, whereas if they only raised sheep and cattle and animals that graze, they could keep on moving as a Nomadic people until they reached Israel.

Just a partial answer on the 'Christian' diet

Of course I don't bring this to the table in an effort to 'thump' anyone with a Bible or my belief system. I am simply bringing a small piece of scripture to explain part of the questions asked. Jews and Muslims follow dietary laws that most 'Christians' do not follow. I personally like to think that I have better things to worry about than eating pork. If I wanted to skirt the 'laws' then I could simply raise the Choctaw hogs or Mississippi mule foot hog, which do not have cloven hooves. But rather than depend on that nonsense, I will simply give you a small bit of scripture that comes from the book of Matthew Chapter 15. I would concentrate starting at verse 11. For it's not what goes into a mans mouth that will defile him, it is what comes out of a mans mouth, because it comes from his heart. This is from the Geneva Bible 1599

1 Then [a]came to Jesus the Scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the Elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

4 For God hath commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and he that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to father or mother, By the gift that is offered by me, thou mayest have profit,

6 Though he honor not his father, or his mother, shall be free: thus have ye made the commandment of God of no authority by your tradition.

7 O hypocrites, Isaiah prophesied well of you, saying,

8 This people draweth near unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with the lips, but their heart is far off from me.

9 But in vain they worship me, teaching for doctrines, men’s precepts.

10 Then he called the multitude unto him, and said to them, Hear and understand.

11 That which goeth into the mouth, defileth not the man, but that which cometh out of the mouth that defileth the man.

12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Perceivest thou not, that the Pharisees are offended in hearing this saying?

13 But he answered and said, Every plant which mine heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

14 Let them alone, they be the blind leaders of the blind: and if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

15 Then answered Peter, and said to him, Declare unto us this parable.

16 Then said Jesus, Are ye yet without understanding?

17 Perceive ye not yet, that whatsoever entereth into the mouth, goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth, come from the heart, and they defile the man.

19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, slanders.

20 These are the things which defile the man: but to eat with unwashed hands, defileth not the man.

Pigs require lots of water

Water is at a premium in the deserts of the middle east. One theory claims that ecological pressures expressed themselves in these cultures by deeming the pig an unclean animal, in order to conserve water resources.

“The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants.” — Albert Camus

The pig is a semi aquatic mammal

Humans are also a semi aquatic mammal

That, and you must settle down to raise pigs...

Whereas the Hebrew tribes could raise sheep and cattle that graze all day, and keep moving as the Nomads they were, until they found the promised land.

Makes sense..

And all this time I thought it had something to do with their habit of wallowing around in their own shit. I always run mine through the car wash on the way to the butcher. No joke. :)

Holy Crap!

My immediate thought was I knew pigs were smart, but their own toilets? Then the truth hit me like a two ton heavy thing. That is friggin disgusting! Thanks for the education..yuck.

Pacific Islanders called it "Long Pork"

Back in the day Captain Cook traveled the South Seas claiming a vast number of Pacific Islands for the British Empire. His marines encountered Melanesian and Polynesian warriors during their conquests, some of which had a tradition of eating their vanquished enemies to capture their "mana" or spiritual powers.

These sunburned Britishers must have tasted alright because they were referred to as "long pork" in the local vernacular... put on a spit and roasted, low & slow.
