Food in the sky? Highrise farming idea gains ground
By Mariette Le Roux and Claire Snegaroff

Paris (AFP) - Imagine stepping out of your highrise apartment into a sunny, plant-lined corridor, biting into an apple grown in the orchard on the fourth floor as you bid "good morning" to the farmer off to milk his cows on the fifth.

yeah... lol

know what we should do... build 5 story buildings and waste floor space on large animals and trees instead of humans who need a place to live.

I use Blue Wave, but don't expect one of THEIR silly taglines.

Hey keyboard warrior.

You should read more and post less. Your a$$ is showin.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

i dont think

that we are the ones that need more space to live..

Very interesting concept

I was watching a science channel program about the inventions that changed the world, one was the lawn mower! The show said that 400 billion dollars a year was spend on lawn maintenance, fertilizers, mowers, weed killers, etc. I even rewound it so I could hear that number again, 400 billion! Unless the show was inaccurate that is huge.

If all the lawns were converted to gardens or to an agricultural purpose, imagine how productive that would be? I understand at some time in the past the white house lawns were "mowed" by sheep.

Joel Salatin on Lawns...

35 million acres of lawns!

That's a lot of grass! It's seems no one has gardens anymore, if you do it right, it's fairly easy to grow a garden. Unfortunately in most urban areas it's restricted by zoning laws, that needs to be changed.

I have to laugh at the twisted building design in the picture

All I could think of was the fruit of those trees falling to the ground knocking one of the residents unconscious as they approach the front doors.

The idea of greening high rise buildings has been around for a long time. I just hope the investor is smart enough to hire an architect with practical farming experience.

Exercise in design failure?

I agree with permaculture, it makes more sense than mono

It's just the design of that particular building. It's pretty, it's inovative, it looks more like a dna strand than a dragon fly.... but doesn't look like it will lend it self very well to having fruit orchards on the outside edges as explained in the article...for how the picture shows itself.
