While I am not a Methodist, Charles Wesley is one of the few authors of that period I read time after time. His encouragement of charity influenced many of the leading preachers of the American colonies and later the early United States. The continued preference of many Americans to give to charitable organizations is likely a continuation of that tradition.

This was a quote from Charles Wesley's wife as I remember it...
It was in regards to raising children.. and it became very important to us as we raised our kids..

"Make as few rules as possible, but those that you make, you must keep."
