Twenty-six inches here

and still snowing.

You live down South!

Are you in the mountains? Is it usual for the South to get snow like that? Just realized "mountaincat," that probably you are in the mountains! Maybe that's why there's so much snow?

Oh Yeah!

I live near the top of the mountains in West Virginia. We always get lots of snow. I felt we needed two more feet to fill the underground aquifers.I think the wells are safe now.
I see its still snowing here.

One good thing about harsh winters

is that they tend to keep the "everyone take care of me" crowd away.

Having lived in many different parts of the U.S., it generally seems that the warmer the location, the lazier the population. LET IT SNOW

A signature used to be here!

That reminded me of Horton and Maisey. :)

Southern Agrarian

Sunshine and 80 degrees here tomorrow

A Spring-like day in Austin.

No, thanks

I'm finished with this winter. I'm not doing it anymore.

Defend Liberty!

Force of Nature

There is some good news to this. The Federal Government shut down today. The $64 question is: are they going to get paid anyway? At least they can't cause any harm today. Pray for a blizzard & thanks for Divine intervention.

Global warming

Will kill us. By high energy bills , ice and snow. Not by fire but by ice. My opinion.

did you know?

global warming created 1 million new square miles of polar ice cap last year? Global warming is wicked.

Potentially "catastrophic" storm cuts power to 100's of thousand

Hope you people down South are doing okay.

Doing well in Florida

Raining and 65 degrees at 10pm in Tampa Florida

If you aren't prepared for

If you aren't prepared for anything at this point, you deserve what you get.

No I Am Not

Im not stupid..I just cant afford a k1 heater in case the power goes out..and theres no place in this tiny apartment to store one either. I will be spending most of the day alone, as my husband has to go into work, 25 miles away. He will get there before the storm hits, and theres a good chance they will fire him if he tries to leave when the weather gets worse.
Aint life great??

I believe in Hope & Change..I Hope the government will Change

Not really. But being

Not really. But being unprepared in this environment for ANYTHING, whether it is a storm or tanks rolling down your street, does not give solicit my compassion. When it all hits the fan, and it will, a minor snow storm will be the least of your problems. Stay warm and I wish you well.

Why the Weather Channel's NAMING winter storms...is STUPID

Recently, Portland Oregon got PLASTERED with an intense winter storm.

The Weather Channel decided to name "it" "Winter Storm ORION."

Oh...but I thought umm...,Orion...was a CONSTELLATION???

(That's what we all thought.)

But back to Portland...

"Orion" was an EPIC storm...but of course...name or not...got no coverage from the east-o-centric news organizations centralized around the nation's capital, Atlanta (thanks to CNN), and of course, New York.

For the Weather Channel, if it does not happen in a 50 mile radius of Atlanta, it doesn't happen.

For Weatherbell and Joe Bastardi, if it does not happen within a 10 mile radius of wherever the hell Joe Bastardi lives, it doesn't happen.

And for any New York-based network, which is most of them, if it doesn't happen in Central Park, it doesn't happen.

But back to this mental retardation of NAMING WINTER STORMS:

Even the National Weather Service with its governmental controls...has rejected this puerile and rather embarrassing forcing the issue...where the corporate overlords of NBC force the talking heads at the Weather Channel...to name winter storms.

Tropical cyclones, like the one that just leveled (literally) the southern Philippines...can cause EXTREME damage, so it makes sense in naming them.

But winter storms...and temperate-latitude cyclones in general, do not produce such extreme damage...rarely if at all.

Yet the Weather Channel, in their infinite "wisdom" (even though EF5 tornados which literally can FLATTEN towns in seconds...NEVER GET NAMES)...yet still, the Weather Channel INSISTS on naming winter storms.

And the names are BIZARRE at that: "Winter Storm Elektra". "Winter Storm Pax" "Winter Storm Breon". (Haha).

I mean really...what's next?

Cold Front Cristobel?

Lake Effect Squall Laurentia?

Earthquake Eshiqua (and ensuing) Tsunami Thor???

I would think the trained scientists and meteorologists at The Weather Channel would at the end of the day, probably...hang their heads in shame that their corporate NON-scientist overlords would try to force this foo-foo hollywood nonsense of naming winter storms...down their throats and down the throats of their rapidly diminishing (and balding and greying and dying) viewing audience.

Here is how their logic breaks apart (literally): Recently when "Orion" was pummeling the West Coast, one Weather Channel reporter then said that a "piece of Orion will break off and get caught in the polar jet stream and then a piece will break off and get caught in the subtropical jet."

Ah....what to name the "pieces of Orion."???

Orion II and Orion III?

Piece of Orion A and Piece of Orion B?

???

With this illustration alone one can see the complete and utter abandonment of reason and logic and hell for that matter SANITY when one has to even conceive of naming "a piece" of an amorphous winter cyclone that will never really...in the means....harm anyone...just maybe knock out power and close the schools for a couple of days.

This whole concept of naming winter storms is so completely _____ing stupid, asinine, and inane, I can not begin to express to you how much it is...and correspondingly, how much it grinds my gears.

(But does it grind your gears, too? Enquiring minds want to know.)

And right, you just got another pre-Family Guy rant (LOL): "That's what grinds my gears!"

Cue Family Guy: (WARNING: If you are offended by content, DON'T WATCH. But if you think Family Guy is brilliant satire...then watch and get a good laugh."

Time to INVESTIGATE the investigators of 9/11. PROSECUTE the prosecutors. EXPOSE the cover-up.

Names of false Gods

Not a good thing.

East-o-centric? What you mean?

I'd add hot chocolate to snowstorm emergency supplies,

hot chocolate and cookies good for dunking. Also a good book. The book I've got here is "I am Malala: The girl who stood up for education and was shot by the Taliban." http://www.amazon.com/Am-Malala-Stood-Education-Taliban/dp/0...

I'll be Baking Bread

...from a "hybrid" recipe I've developed over the years.
A yeasty bread, made with raisins, eggs, butter, milk, requiring much kneading to stretch the gluten.
This stretching does two things; it makes for a more flavorful bread.
It also creates a denser texture.
Cycles of knead, rise, knead rise...repeatedly.
And the most prominent ingredient?......
....TIME....which this storm has provided...20 inches on the way.
p.s.
Homer's cafe in "Port-J" has changed it's name due to new owners....
The bridge across the Delaware into Matamoras should make for a fine scenery vantage-point today.....and even better tomorrow.
Be warm, stay safe.

I can't believe you're due for 20in. of snow. That's crazy.

So you'll be whiling away the time baking bread? I'm impressed. Mmm. Among my top comfort foods is homemade bread w/butter & preserves (or marmalade) dunked in coffee.

Plus bread baking in the oven makes your house smell wonderful. For a time, I baked a Swedish Braid weekly w/one of my children - when he was in kindergarten, so it's been a while! I added cardamom in honor of my Swedish grandmother. Here's the recipe. It's fun to braid bread! : http://www.recipelinks.com/board/read/0214623 http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x470/keenerbooks/KB/0080...

It's sad that Homer's is gone. Driving up Hawk's Nest and stopping for ice cream is one of my favorite childhood memories. Even if the building is still there, it's not Homer's without it being called Homer's! :(

Hey, it's Feb. 14. Happy Valentines Day!

Homer's is Gone

..and I regret not having snapped a picture of the sign on the building before it was taken down....you could just "tell" that there was a change coming.
Well, gotta go shovel (again), but here's wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day...and I will hustle over to the Music Page to view your Elvin Bishop video...should be good.
Stay safe, God Bless.
