Greta Van Susteren calls Dwayne Stovall a 'Jerk' over McConnell/Cornyn Turtle ad

Dwayne is finally getting media attention!

From Newsmax:

Fox News host Greta Van Susteren on Friday blasted a bizarre television spot by longshot Texas Senate candidate Dwayne Stovall that likens Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to a Looney Tunes turtle.

"This ad is lousy," Van Susteren said on her Fox website. "It is gratuitously insulting.

"I have no idea whether Stovall is a great candidate or not — but his ad makes me think he is a jerk," she added. "You can be clever and funny in ads … or you can be gratuitously insulting."

If McConnell is the turtle,

If McConnell is the turtle, then Cornyn is the 12 year cicada, hiding out in DC only to return to Texas for money and to breed....

Southern Agrarian

I have to admit I didn't

I have to admit I didn't think much of that ad when it came out, but MAN!!!
Dwayne's trolling has gotten the response needed and exposed the ones we wish to oust even clearer now.

Southern Agrarian

If anything is lousy here

It's McConnell's record - and Cornyn's to the extent he supports him on
un-constitutional statist crap like this:

(eight million dollar earmark for research on improved facial recognition

There's also the comforting though that putting McConnell out of
a job would put Jesse Benton out of one, also.

Talk about a "two-fer" ...

Don't mess

with Tejas...

If it looks like a Turtle and

If it looks like a Turtle and acts like a turtle ........................ well you know the rest.(-:

Meet up...

You need to meet up with my son Kyle in Houston Stonewall, are you nearby?

He does resemble a turtle... Head in head out.

ecorob's picture

Its Mitch McConnell...

He will always be remembered as part of the problem with America.

Nothing is out of bounds with McConnell...HE is the jerk!

its 'cos I owe ya, my young friend...
Rockin' the FREE world in Tennessee since 1957!
9/11 Truth.

I thought it was funny..

I didn't see any problem with it.

The ad is harmless , but honestly

There is SO MUCH you could blast McConell with over his job performance, that Im wondering if making fun of his physical appearance could backfire and create sympathy for McConnel... or disgust for Stovall?
I'd love to see Stovall stick to the issues .

I'd rather have a bottle in front o' me than a frontal lobotomy

The ad worked.

Stovall does not have the money to run it on TV. The whole point of the ad was to get attacked by the media, which = free advertising. Stovall has stuck to the issues in the past, and received little attention over it.

"create sympathy for McConnel"

"create sympathy for McConnel" ???

C'mon, we're talking "TEXAS" here!!! ;)

Where was she when Ron Paul was called a kook?

I guess bad taste only applies if your guy is attacked.

Free includes debt-free!

She did him a favor.

McConnell is not "her guy". Her comment is at least somewhat consistent with her perspective. She actually has this in common with Ron Paul, and I can't think of another talking head who shared such a degree of mutual respect with Ron as Greta. Ron and Greta are both relatively pure "message" people , and relatively unconcerned with the personal attributes of the "messengers". I'm not personally declaring Stovall "wrong" to have flashed McConnell as Cecil Turtle. I must admit it is somewhat humorous, uncanny, and will probably stick in people's minds. I also don't live in Texas. I agree with Greta though, that it is gratuitously insulting. I also can't imagine Stovall's campaign manager disagreeing with that. I also had the same reaction as Greta as the ad makes me think he is a jerk. I had no problem with the placement of McConnell's image suggestively placed with Cecil Turtle, and I had no problem with Stovall saying that McConnell fights like Cecil, but when he uttered the words that McConnell "looks" like Cecil my heart skipped a beat. It would have been clever to actually not say "looks". The picture spoke for itself! I [as a viewer] am being treated like an idiot as he interprets the image for me. As I know I'm not an idiot, it makes him out to be one. Lo and behold he ends up reminding me of mentally retarded people I've worked with. They act exactly like this when attempting to show me something funny.

Anyway, Stovall's campaign manager probably weighed the pros and cons of making Stovall out to be a jerk and went with it. It probably will be a net positive for his campaign. Initially Stovall needs recognition [which such controversy will provide, and his campaign will thank Greta for her comment]. Beyond that, being a gratuitously insulting jerk has never actually proved to be a liability on a political candidate's résumé.
