Rand Paul vs. Ted Cruz: Who's winning tea party voters?

WASHINGTON - Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Ted Cruz of Texas are both favorites of the tea party wing of the Republican Party. If both run for president in 2016, as seems likely at the moment, they’d vie for the same conservative voters as a base upon which to build a winning GOP primary coalition.

Given that potential White House candidates are jockeying right now for support from key donors and party figures, it’s not too early to ask this question: Which of these two men is currently winning the most tea party support?

national politics

It's a waste of time. It's all theater. Of course it will all be slanderous ad hominem attacks, Ron will be the mill stone around Rand's neck- the press will have their field day. The masses will be gullible as usual and lap up the sound bytes... the beat goes on...

anyone stupid enough to

anyone stupid enough to listen to anyone who even suggest that piece of crap Canadian ted cruz should or will run for president are complete dumb azzez...

just sick and tired of people not having information before they open there mouths about this subject. just pisses me to no end

Rand is trying to be more moderate

It is interesting because they both appear to be "Tea Party" but one works in the system (Rand) and one, even though he is in there in the belly of the beast, is still defiant.

Rand endorsed McConnell his statie Senate homeboy, while Cruz refuses to do the same for Cornyn.

Rand still has a perception problem with liberals. I think that whole Rachel Maddow interview stained him there, perpetually. Up here in Mass, people hate him. They'll say nice things about his dad, but they emphatically do not like Rand.

It reminds me of a scene in Mitt, when he's talking about how he's perceived as the "flipping Mormon." He blames that on John McCain. John McCain was the first to hang that around his neck, and it stuck. Forever.

And in discussing this, he says "You will never be able to convince people that Dan Quayle is smart. People just won't believe it. You'll never be able to convince people that President Ford was anything but a bumbler. And if people only see me as a flip flopper, and I can never convince them otherwise, I'm afraid that I'm a flawed candidate."

Maybe Rand can overcome that in time, but unlikely if he keeps attacking the Clintons.

Anyway, it will be an interesting race to watch. I look at it like a football game - or more like a football season.

But if I'm still living in Mass in 2016, it won't make any difference, because this state is blue as the sky.

He's the man.

Rand Paul

I will never vote for any man who endorses the War on Women. The female, as the owner of the means of production, and the avatar of the Divine Will, is the proper authority to determine if any given fetus gets carried to full term and incarnated. The Male attempts to control the bodies of women is what has caused all of the pain and suffering that there has been since the beginning of time.

Here's some introductory Metaphysics, which explains it nicely: http://rightuseofwill.com/

Freedom is my Worship Word!

This is an argument that will

This is an argument that will not go anywhere on the DP. I happen to strongly disagree with you and I am a woman. I am pro life because I don't believe Liberty should be limited only to those living outside the womb. Just my two cents. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Rand believes in state rights with this issue. If that be the case than it shouldn't matter what his personal views are. Personally, I'd like to focus on the foreign policy and debt. I suggest you do the same.

Horse race stories

before anyone has announced, from the Christian Science Monitor, on the "tea party". I wish they would invest energy on constitutional abuses happening now, and cover the 2016 presidential race in 2016.

Thanks BT. I've left him some

Thanks BT. I've left him some heart felt words. What's funny is that I've received a negative response from someone else. It's rather bazar.

You never know about this place. It's like...one moment I'm feeling the love and then BAM....someone can take it all away in one short smug sentence. Sometimes I feel like I want to just jab my eye out with a pencil.

I'm for a Paul/Paul ticket...

Rand Paul for Pres, Ron for Vice. or...
Paul Napalitano.
I don't want Cruz the slickster anywhere in the picture.

Any of those Paul's would be

Any of those Paul's would be a breath of fresh air.

If the GOP

was smart enough. Cruz and Rand would run together and win but we all know that wont happen because Cruz is put in place to steal it from Rand.

Don't forget about Frothy too!

And we don't need

another JFK situation.

Ron Swanson

What you mean

They would JFK Rand Paul?

Screw the T Party...

Those hapless fools loved "Dumbya" ....loved the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and like the hapless fools that they are, will likely get behind Jeb Bush in 2016.

Isn't Ron Paul the "God

Isn't Ron Paul the "God Father" of the TP?

No, he is NOT the creator of the Tea Party

See my comment here:

Restore the Foundations - "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

Ron Paul is the creator of the Tea Party but it was corrupted just like both parties. The Tea Party got invaded with fakes and Rhinos.

"Tea Party" is not one group

...some are as you describe, many aren't.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

True, but

in my opinion, the Tea Party name has been forever tainted.

Shouldn't the question be

Which one of these candidates are eligible to be president ?

They tried to bury us, they didn't know we were seeds. -mexican proverb

Yes it should! Looking at the list, Rand Paul is the only natural born citizen. Just because the democrats ran a candidate who isn't a natural born citizen, doesn't mean the republicans should follow suit.

good point

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

It's obvious that the author

It's obvious that the author of this piece is a Cruz supporter. I didn't post the article because I agree with the author but there rather there is some interesting information on it. He is right in the fact that when it comes down to the Tea Party candidates...it's going to come down to the establishment Cruz and Rand.

Ted Cruz is the establishment

They tried to bury us, they didn't know we were seeds. -mexican proverb

Perhaps I should've worded it

Perhaps I should've worded it differently. I was actually calling Cruz establishment but not Rand. So it's Rand vs. establishment fake Tea Party Cruz.

Who endorsed Mr. Establishment himself?

Mitch McConnell?

had no other option and saw that opportunity to kiss Rhino butt and it worked.

Its called politics... Its a game!

Who's wife

works at goldman sachs?

He endorsed him when there

He endorsed him when there was nobody else running and before the Tea Party candidate was running. He endorsed him against the the Democrat running. Rand and Mitch are "friends".
