Kiev: 67 police captured

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Fearing that a call for a truce was a ruse, protesters tossed firebombs and advanced upon police lines Thursday in Ukraine's embattled capital. Government snipers shot back and the almost-medieval melee that ensued left at least dozens of people dead.

Protesters were also seen leading policemen with their hands held high around the sprawling protest camp in central Kiev. Ukraine's Interior ministry says 67 police were captured in all. It was not clear how they were taken. An opposition lawmaker said they were being held in Kiev's occupied city hall.

To me it looks as if they are being shot at from more than one direction.

Ukraine is not so simple as East vs West

My wife too is a Ukrainian citizen. She is from Cherkasy Region just South of Kyiv.

The situation in Ukraine is not so simple as East vs West. The average Ukrainian isn't in love with the EU, and I think the argument that initial demonstration was fake is well founded.

BUT president Yanukovych tried to forcefully crush the first protests, and peaceful protesters died. That brought tens of thousands to Maidan. It happened again in January with a similar result.

When people shout on the square they talk about corruption, about looting the people to enrich oligarchs and the families of the administration, about the president amending the constitution to grant himself more power. And they are not wrong.

The "security forces" work for Ukraines KGB-successor agency.

Most all the snipers belong to those forces. They are sniping at women and even some children have died.

The US and EU are to blame big time -- their EU offer came with prizes for NATO and many conditions detrimental to Ukraines national sovereignty. Yanukovych was right to say no. When protesters came for that it was fake.

But here we genuinely have a real anti-corruption, goverment-reform movement where after three months passions have run hot and the men at the front have gotten violent. Yet even still the police have modern rifles to the protesters molotovs and pistols.

This recent violence started because Yanukovych strong-armed the parliament speaker in to refusing to bring up a bill restoring the balance of power (reducing executive power) that existed in the 2004 constitution.

Ukrainians should be angry. RPI is wrong; Yanukovych did this to himself. No police force has the right to kill dozens of rock-throwing protesting citizens with sniper rifles.

Even Kyiv's mayor has recently left the presidents party and reopened the subway that was closed to prevent the people in the country from coming to Kyiv to take their country back.

If you will do what you can, you can do what you will.

To you and D Roertson below,

I hope your wife's families are safe.

Thank you.

My wife says that is very kind of you. She says her relatives are petrified because they think there is a civil war. They say that there are foreign agitators being brought in to stir up the young people.

They have also said that all the politicians are corrupt (just as they are in the UK, the EU and the US). They are in thrall to the business interests and mainly intent on lining their own pockets while the pensions are cut and the prices go up. (Remember it has been just over two decades since the Soviet Union collapsed and the systems have not yet been fully developed to provide a safety net.)

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)

Likewise! You are a peach. Well...more like a nectarine. Peaches are just weird because of the fuzz thing they've got going on. Yesterday was a good day.

Obama did! He warned about crossing some line or other... And Kerry warned about warnings. And Mad Dog McCain swore "We're ALL Ukrainians Now!!" Palin said she can see Ukraine from her back porch. And holocaust-helper George Soros released a lovely piece of fictional fraud called "I Am a Ukrainian" to reel in the dupes and suckers who fell for Kony2012.

So we're all hummming with activity here.

Glad of you caught that!

Glad of you caught that!

They are to busy oppressing us!

And besides, the US Government and their corporate owners want control of the resources and the pipeline distribution. They are not interested in the people, other than us overpaying for the fuel they allow us to have and keep their profit margins.

America has already done ENOUGH to start this thing.

Now it needs to keep its nose out of it and stop supporting the terrorists.

Hey: I'm still explaining (even today) a previous post I wrote

where someone accused me of supporting ObamaCare simply because I thought our medical costs were too high in early January!

I wrote:

"I don't like the fact that we have the most expensive and least inclusive healthcare system in the world so I support Obama. Yeah.

Where is that guy who was looking for an example of a ridiculous strawman argument?"

And I have had people write me long responses about how ObamaCare is no good even YESTERDAY! They never read the responses written before theirs OR how I explain is very specific terms that I was being sarcastic.

So good luck with yours.

Huh?

Huh?

It's a GD kerfufle

And we need to NOT BE THERE ! Not governmentally, not by influence, not by opinion stated by a State Parrot either.

Do people have the right to overthrow an oppressive regime ?
What constitutes such a regime? Is our repressive and worthy, but theirs ( though sixty years more practiced at tyranny ) unworthy ? What's the bellwether ?

All I know is that no one instigated nor at first fought for our freedoms, that only 3%-10% of those who dwelt here actually did fight our first revolution.

Alex Jones is of course ballistic in crying FALSE REVOLUTION, and he's correct in the sense that Soros, and his cohorts at State are all hands underhanded lets manipulate this thing to death, on board for it, paying for it, instigating it, and most assuredly profiting greatly wealth wise by doing so.

My question is, in today's world can there be a honest revolution, one untainted by oligarchs, ism's, and profit seeking actors ?

God bless

I don't think

There was ever quite an honest revolution. Remember we had France intervening and manipulating during the American revolution. The aristocrats that ruled after the revolution benefited greatly from the break with England, so do we believe they wanted freedom, or was it their economic interests that were key? I'm sure there were also honest revolutionaries, who wanted liberty - I'm sure the same is true in the Ukraine. Which is the most important aspect of a revolution ?

Yea

Yes, we had the French, after we proved we weren't going to back off from our convictions, and I guess we should thank God for them, or we'd have lost it for sure ( though sometimes I think in truth we did after a fashion ).

I think, and it's only my thinking, that being a seldom governing person, or freedom is why I would fight a revolution. I truely despise an intrusive nanny state, creating rules that bind rather than encourage.

What is going on?

Here are a couple of articles well worth reading on this situation in Ukraine. My wife is Ukrainian and her relatives there would support the conclusions of these articles.

1. This is from the Ron Paul Institute web site and is an interview by RT with an Oxford professor. The one factual error in the report is the population of Ukraine. It is just under 45 million, not 15 million.

http://ronpaulinstitute.org/archives/featured-articles/2014/...

2. The second article, entitled "Invasion of the Mind Snatchers", reveals the long term involvement of the United States government in all the revolutions taking place around the world, from Serbia to Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Georgia, Ukraine and many others.

http://ronpaulinstitute.org/archives/featured-articles/2014/...

In the article there are links one of which is a half hour video entitled "The Revolution Business". I remember watching it in 2011. It lays out in some detail just how these revolutions are fomented and controlled by the US State Department, their proxies and patsies.

It is very reasonable to conclude that this attempted coup in Ukraine is following the same pattern. Personally I do not believe that Russia will stay on the sidelines if the conflict deepens. The EU and the US are threatening sanctions but that would be self defeating and drive Ukraine even further into the arms of Russia and its allies.

The neo-cons in the US government have as their policy the creation of chaos and continuous revolution in countries targeted for absorption into the Empire. This has been ongoing for more than two decades but it is meeting more resistance and requiring more resources to accomplish. My view is that they have reached the end of their ability to enforce their vision of the world and that the coming destruction of the US dollar as world reserve currency will signal the end of their Empire.

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)
