Lets hope they dont build a wall.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

It is difficult to know how this will pan out.

However for local government to assume control of their region in difficult times is a good development. It is wise to ignore legislation and decisions coming out of a central parliament that is reacting to mob rule.

It may indeed result in a separation between East and West Ukraine in the long run and Russian President Putin has suggested that a confederation may be the best solution. This of course would benefit Russia since they would continuer to have access to their naval base on the Black Sea which is contiguous with East Ukraine. West Ukraine is less well positioned in this regard. Deciding where the border will be drawn is going to be a bone of contention.

All in all it looks bleak for older Ukrainians who must suffer once again through the changes ahead. Just like the other countries who have been the targets of US attentions in the past two decades the outcome will be much less attractive than the protesters imagine.

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)

How do you say it in Russian?

Splitsky? Da!

Which is probably (almost certainly) what the EU/US intended all along.
