Will the "Son of God" movie unite or divide Us? Opening 2/28 Somewhere near You.

Listening to the radio news this morning, I heard a big segment going into the upcoming movie release of, "Son of God", linking it to a series of Bible-themed movies coming to a theater near you soon. Why are much bigger audiences willing to go to theaters for this theme, rather than R-rated raunch?

I thought I'd be the first to ask, what potential impact could these well-made movies have on folks attitudes towards the things that belong to God, and those things in Caesar's image only? Here's the official trailer for, "Son of God":

I just found this musical trailer with more scenes woven in. As with any issue of faith, even those who faithfully hold to no faith at all know that art can have a powerful influence that may play loud a common moral cord, and pull similar heart strings.

When the TV series proved there is a HUGE Bible-theme audience, 20th Century Fox anted up support for this project that's about to break onto the big screens world-wide, five days before Ash Wednesday, as some would call it; and seven weeks before Good Friday, as some, well, you know...

or neither nor

It's quite possible, even probable, that the movie will neither unite nor divide us.

it's a great movie and it's

it's a great movie and it's the message of kindness that really goes through the movie. it's a great movie. amazing acting. it's different than the bible series there is a lot of the teachings in the movie. I thought it was great. IF you want to know more about Christ and his life look up "Keys of Jeshua" on Amazon.

I couldnt watch the Bible series

cause after watching about five minutes of it I couldnt keep up with all the inaccuracies. Remember this is coming from the same people who produce ancient aliens.

Can anybody show me The Real Jesus?

I know exactly what you mean; hence this hopeful appeal to those who know the difference, that we'd all be ready to help those who want to know more than this. They need not get swept away with state-churches and cultic leaders who are ready to collect on sympathetic feelings, if we are ready with real biblical substance to fill in the blanks, eh?

From one reviewer's critique

In the beginning was the Bible. The Bible begat the History Channel's "The Bible" miniseries. Now "The Bible" has begotten the movie "Son of God," which is essentially the second half of the miniseries, the New Testament, recut to feature length.

The film emphasizes spectacle and slights the teachings and parables of Jesus, played by Diogo Morgado. But to its credit, "Son of God" proves more than a mere watered-down "The Passion of the Christ."

Jesus is coming...to a theater near you

I know we all know the difference between theatrical productions and the original wordings, when it comes to any book-made-movie transition. Things are cut, changed, and sometimes made-up out of whole cloth; as directors, script-writers, and the actors themselves, all decide how to interpret the author's work in the amount of time movie-watchers can handle in one sitting.

When dealing faithfully with what many believe to be Holy Scripture, the stakes are much higher, not only as we consider whether the production is worthy of the viewer's favor, but also of The Author; Who will one day award His critique according to the ultimate star-rating, or flaming-measure, deserved!

Some have challenged the placement of this on a forum about liberty, as though tyranny naturally follows from any and all religious views. Especially since our so-called, "Christian nation-pretense", is at the forefront of promoting global-domination and domestic-subjugation; to the undeniable loss of Our moral/morale economic and political compass. I only hoped that posting this thread, it might help us all to be aware of this movie's potential social and moral impact, so that we might better be prepared to deal with it, whether we want to watch it or not, and love it or hate this as art with a guided, or misguided, intent.

Many pluses and minuses have been given by DPers who have passed by or jumped in. The overall top-count that I personally caught for this thread hasn't risen above where it is at this writing, a 5. That said, I never witnessed it drop below, 0; so at least we haven't gone into the red :)

I planned more time to personally reply to many posts here, but a sudden chance to extend some hospitality took up much of it. Trusting that those replies are still hoped for, I'll do what I can, ASAP, but that guest is still drawing time away, somewhat.

Here's the official site for the Son of God movie, being released tomorrow nation-wide, even in my neighborhood: http://www.sonofgodmovie.com/home.html .

Easter season's upon us

Time to get out the greatest movie of all time... The Ten Commandments.

I find Hollywood and God films

To be a mismatch made in hell. You do realize that the wood used for making witches wands is....holly wood don't you?

I have no intention of wasting Gods wealth on seeing anything from Hollywood this year, just like last year, and the year before that, and..........

If you want to get to know God, study His word intently and learn all about Him.

God bless

Drew, by the very grace of GOD through the blood of Christ Jesus.
"there shall come after us men whom shall garner great wealth using our system, and having done so shall seek to slam the door of prosperity behind them." George Washington

There's nothing like the Author's own words to know

His real intent and direction. This is at best a sincere and artistically well-done attempt; or at worst a clever ruse that misleads by what's left out, and/or added, to confuse rather than clearly present the Gospel.

Either way, I hope this thread has served to help your awareness of it's presence in your community and nation, at a time when more might be looking for these among us who might biblically and spiritually know Him better than themselves; and might have better questions to answer based on what this movie might stir, good or bad, eh?

There has never been a time in country's history when folks seem to have less personal biblical knowledge and wisdom, and events like this don't come often, so we must decide whether to hide from it, or embrace it for the opportunities it might present to have better-than-average attention given to a much-needed understanding among Us.

This is not real footage of Jesus.

That's a good one. You don't even know how funny that is.

Um...FYI...Jesus is hot.

Um...FYI...Jesus is hot. Well, the actor who plays him.

Ugh.. more mythical nonsense

Ugh.. more mythical nonsense to keep people seperated from liberty.

Ugh.. more ignorant nonsense

coming from someone who believes that only clones of themselves know, love, or will fight for liberty. Just because you have made "Faith in God" your own little enemy, doesn't make your accusations or ignorant diatribes true in any way. If there is an enemy to liberty, it is people like you who claim the ability to judge all of mankind, and constantly poke a large part of our movement in the eyes with your hateful stick. You are no more deserving or useful in our fight for liberty than those you work so hard to annoy and drive away. You are an enemy to liberty whether you like it or not.

Well stated

To answer the title question directly..

I don't see how it could unite us. On the other hand I don't see how it could divide us either.

I suspect the movie is just entertainment.

We've come away from blonde haired, blue eyed Jesus.

The guy pictured here might have some other than white blood in him way back there somewhere. Rest of the cast seems like a mix of caucusoids and Persians. Sophron (resident ethnopologist) is gonna have a field day with this one.

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

His name is Diogo Morgago.

His name is Diogo Morgago. From Portugal. I can see why they would cast him as the part of Jesus...only God himself could create a more perfect man.

Aw that's sweet.

He's a very good looking young man but all of them are compared to old Smudge Pots. Given he's from portugal he could easily have Moorish type background mixed in there.

One thing's for sure. We all have to come from someplace.

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

All of them are...are what?

All of them are...are what? I'm so excited with anticipation! What are they compared to Smudgy?

Will be...

...primarily interested to see what is left in from the gospels, and what is left out; not that they need to cram everything in, but am hoping that the core ideas of Love God/love neighbor are emphasized -- and His discussions of the three-fold relationship: the Father in the Son, the Son in us, the Father in us.

I'll bet ya 30 pieces of

I'll bet ya 30 pieces of silver they leave out his raving at the blind Pharisees. It will be some feel good girly pop music Zionist crap. No whip of cords to some temple scum. Probably Pilate and the Romans will be the evil bad guys. If only Mel Gibson was involved... http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+23&versi...

Any dealings with Satan

have been removed, which kills the whole thing for me. If you don't learn about the temptation, where it comes from, and how to deal with it, then you are ignoring a huge part of the life of Christ. Just another hack movie that I will not watch. I'd rather watch Jesus Christ Superstar.

The History Channel called Satan a "false connection" with Obama

In sympathy for the devil, there was this official statement, "'History Channel has the highest respect for President Obama,' the statement said. 'It's unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. History's "The Bible" is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history.'"

This time they're seeking to avoid a similar frenzy. "Someone made a comment that the actor who played the devil vaguely resembled our president, and suddenly the media went nuts," Downey said. For the movie version she said, "I wanted all of the focus to be on Jesus."

Jesus said to the religious leaders among the Jews who were seeking to kill him, "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." John 8:44

I ask folks, whether they like Obama or not, to name five things they can remember Obama saying truthfully. When they can't, I ask for three. When they still can't, I ask for even one honest promise ever,...and then I rest my case. Physical resemblance to the actor who played Satan was less than half of the disliked comparison between the two, eh?

Remember where you were when you were called.

For since I am free from all I can make myself a slave to all, in order to gain even more people.

To the Jews I became like a Jew to gain the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law) to gain those under the law. To those free from the law I became like one free from the law (though I am not free from God’s law but under the law of Christ) to gain those free from the law. To the weak I became weak in order to gain the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that by all means I may save some.

I do all these things because of the gospel, so that I can be a participant in it. (1 Corinthians 9:19-23)

"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)

Good looking Jesus?

Isaiah, in Chapter 53, verses 2-3 (NIV translation) describes the suffering servant as follows:

He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

Uniting and dividing

Only by uniting together can you be divided... stop grouping together.. be your own person and stop trying to rule others just because your group is bigger.
