Thoughts on Texas
Submitted by SameCoin on Wed, 01/30/2008 - 01:45I'm just thinking out loud here but I am betting that a lot will be intrigued about these thoughts.
If RP does not get the nomination and by some fluke the revolutions does not force the machine to reconsider. Then consider this, Texas holds most of Americas Military bases most of the Oil Refiners, a large portion of the trade ports, and is the only State in the union which maintained its right to Secede from the union at anytime. There has been a large movement here in-fact which has tried to see this course brought to fruition. If the majority of RP supporters were to move to Texas and gain control of the local government we could easily gain control of all of Texas and Secede from the Union It would be a crippling blow for America and would force our collective voices to be heard. It would Ring around the world.
I am sure there there are more benefits to this move but I have not delved into it to much.

Calling all Paulunteers to Texas Residency
The only real choice can be TEXAS, it is the only location that is weather friendly.
It can be worked by Paulunteers year-round.
We can start by making Dr. Paul the Gov. of Texas with a legislature that backs a new experiment in governance for the the citizens.
Then we can move on to actual secession by showing how a different political environment can benefit all citizens.

It is an option at a later date, that I would choose over living under anyone neo-con.
As to not enough oil, Texas has plenty of Oil, and Likely far more If we were to use the Russians new deep rock drilling methods which resurrected their economy.
Alaska is another Option, It would take far fewer to take control of that local government and it has the largest existing oil supply in the world bar none. It has so much oil in fact that if we were to tap it we could stop using other nations oil entirely and lower fuel prices to 1$ a gallon within a year.
Controlling our own Government has other pros.
For example, secured alternative energy research facilities which could not be influenced buy the likes of big oil. The ICE has been Obsolete since the 1950s after all.
Free power which we could do on our own would effectively make us self sufficient.

I'm in Houston and I admit that there have been talks about doing this for some time. I think the word you're looking for is "secede" from the Union, which we do have the right to do and break up into five states. And we do have manufacturing, ports and fertile farmland as well as a vast oil supply. If this were to be done, I would be on board. But I don't know that I'm ready to give up on Dr. Paul quite yet and start calling for secession. But it would be a great plan "b"

Sure, if you want Texas to be destroyed
First, we already have the Mexican army crossing the borders (invading) into Texas. Even with all of the federal military bases in the state, not one federal troop is being used to secure our borders. Besides, what makes you think that the federal troops wouldn't be recalled to the United States if succession was to happen?
Second, although we do have huge refining capacity, we don't have the oil production to fuel the needs of the entire state. A more likely scenario is that the federal government would use the troops stationed in Texas to secure the refineries.
Finally, you are forgetting the huge population of neocons in this state that are benefitting from the undeclared perpetual war. I don't know if they make up a majority of our population, but they are the people in charge who are going to fight you at every turn.
Perhaps in a time when the federal government wasn't so dependent on us, Texas could have seceded from the Union; but I can only imagine the horror that the United States government would bring down on our heads if we were to try to do so today.
Focus your efforts on the campaign. Get in contact with your precinct captain. If you don't have one, become one. Donate all you can to the campaign and get the word out. These are the things that are useful.

Succeed from the Union
FYI - There has been a movement in Vermont for several years regarding succeeding from the union. I wouldn't mind living there!
Just for the record
All states retain the right to succeed. The only difference is if whether or not they are able to sustain themselves, defend themselves from the US, and/or do so peacefully.
Thomas Jefferson recognized this early on when a few New England states threatened to succeed. He said "If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left to combat it."
That view was retained until Mr. Lincoln quite literally forced the issue. The only reason the Southern succession didn't work is because Abraham Lincoln decide that he didn't want his empire to break apart, and decide to fight for the land back. That was no "Civil War". That was a war fought by one country against another country.
That's the issue we face with succession. We need to find a way to succeed without a war. You also need to look at the rights of the individual to succeed, and for the abolishment of one form of government for another.
You think that's crazy? Well we are in a 3rd form of government here in the US; forth if you consider Lincoln's abuses and disregard for the Constitution, basically voiding our Constitution altogether. The British Colonial system, an American State Confederation system, and the current American Republic system. As well our Declaration of Independence declares that,
"We hold these truths to be self-evident ... That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
I'm not calling for succession myself right now. I have hope in Ron Paul and the revolution that we have moving. But should you choose that route, I wanted to clarify the talking points for you.

As for those who say the desire for liberty and the truth is dying in Texas, it isn't. You have no idea how many thousands are fighting to shut down the construction of the trans-continental hwy over there and are bound to suceed.

Living in Texas. Another bonus is living just 1 mile exactly from Dr. Paul's house. I wouldn't trade Texas for anything, especially those freezing snowing days that I lived in Ohio and was born and raised in Pennsylvania. Another thing in common is that my hometown in Pa. was one hour from where Dr. Paul was born. Next year this time Ron and Carol Paul will be living in the White House. How great that will be!

there was another forum on this subject. i suggest Texas, New Hampshire and Alaska. We'd be kinda spread out, but we could support each other.
And ask China to suport Texas...
Like Taiwan's bid for independence from China some say we should go to war in support of that. Wow the tables would turn. Maybe China could build a base there too, like we do all over the world.
Secession
About thirty years ago I used to advocate that Texas secede, join OPEC, to hell with the rest of ya'll, and let the tanks roll. But, my opinion has mellowed a good bit on this subject. I'm older and hopefully a little wiser now. Of the 50 states, it was believed at one time that probably only Texas and California could survive as independents. These two could come closest to being able to feed themselves and be semi-self sustaining. With communication and transportation what it is, we are more integrated with the rest of the U.S., as far as attitudes about social and political stuff. It ain't the Texas it used to be. Government schools and liberal/socialist propaganda have done their jobs well. The independent-minded Texan of lore is a dwindling dying breed and almost non-existant anymore.

especially in the small towns of Texas....(kinky freidman, and grandma...were a huge wake up call that Perry does not represent Texas).
2 issues are UNITING alot of Texans (both in cities and towns)
1.) Illegal immigration
2) North American highway (already voted against by the Texas legislature).
I lived in a small (300) texas town and believe me there are many that still would pull out their guns if they saw a bunch of BLUE HELMETS from the UN running around. That is no joke either.
