Massaging horses? You're going to need a license for that. Video, 2min.

The Ariz. State Veterinary Medical Examining Board wants to throw entrepreneurs who massage animals without a veterinary license into jail and fine them $3,500 per violation.

Celeste Kelly is a horse massage therapist who decided to turn her love of horses into a successful business. She spent hundreds of hours learning about horse anatomy and developing massage techniques to obtain private certifications in animal massage.

Massage therapists do not need a medical degree to massage humans, but entrepreneurs like Celeste who want to massage animals in Arizona must spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to attend four years of veterinary school where they are not even required to learn massage.

Because of this regulation, Celeste stands to lose everything. That is why on March 5, 2014, the Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, filed suit in Maricopa County Superior Court on behalf of Celeste and other animal massage therapists, challenging Arizona's animal massage regulation as an unconstitutional violation of animal massage entrepreneurs' right to earn an honest living

What is up with Arizona?

I thought it was one of the freer states.

The Diamond Dog is a real cool cat. | Reporting on the world from an altitude of 420.

With personal freedom and that sick bastard Arpaio,

I wouldn't be surprised if it were a bit of a fascist hellhole. But you're right, most people would expect more economic freedom in a state like that.

Not too many know this but Arizona SUX for small business.

Out of all 50 states, Arizona has the most, the most expensive and the most difficult to obtain licensure environments in this nation. Bilking small business is a major revenue generator in a state that's basically losing jobs. Real estate was the primary driver here for decades, really since the 1970s so this was all just milking out of state investment coming in. Well now that tap is at a trickle and still...they wring every fat dollar, nickle, dime and penny out of you.

Know what it takes in licensure and compliance to get a HOT DOG CART working here? About $1500 and that's before insurance. A HOT DOG CART. And every agency has inspectors roaming around at all hours just looking for violations to bring in more bucks.

Yeah sorry to say Arizona looks a lot better in the brochures in so many ways. Get caught with pot? With any amount including chemical residue? INSTANT FELONY. Leave your stash in CO boys and gals.

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.
