Ron Paul: Crimea Has Right to Join Russia, Obama's Sanctions 'Criminal'

Former congressman says the U.S. should embrace self-determination.
Former Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, believes Crimeans have a right to transfer sovereignty over their peninsula to Russia and says sanctions imposed Thursday by President Barack Obama against Ukrainian and Russian officials are “criminal.”

I'd like to ask Ron

Why would Crimea want to abandon their sovreignity?
Why did Putin feel the need to bring in troops?

Why would you support a warmonger like Putin?

Tell me Granger, do you believe in freedom of choice?

Let's reverse the roles for a second.

Russia wants to "liberate" Canada, and covertly destroys the Canadian parliament, then comes in to try and "save the country" by helping elect local ministers Russia thinks will do the best job, Ontario says no way, and is offered to become part of the United States of America.

Would your opinion be the same?

Would you be against the US putting troops in Ontario for protection?

Yes

Because I have a hard time understanding why any recognized territory, state, would give up it's sovreignity to a state they know does not promite freedom.

How would you feel if Obama was liberating Crimnea? Then why is it OK for Putin?

Yes, I would be opposed to placing American troops.. but I would not be opposed to American troops BY THEIR OWN will, registering and working with Ontario.. Ontario needs to pay them, not Americans.

Maybe this will help.

Crimea is over 60% ethnic Russian, at least.
The elected government of Ukraine was overthrown by a reportedly nationalist movement led by ethnic Ukrainians who are openly hostile to Russians and have stated a desire to be free from Russian influence.

Boris Filatov, the newly installed deputy head of the Dnepropetrovsk region, has posted publicly on his Facebook page with regard to Russians in Crimea who were protesting the new self-proclaimed Ukraine government saying, “This scum should be given promises, guarantees, and any concessions…And hung…They should be hung later.”

The Russians who live in Crimea, and elsewhere in Ukraine, are in danger of ethnic cleansing campaigns. Russia has financial and military interests, as well as the largest concentrated population of Russians in diaspora, in Crimea. Russians interests and people, the majority of the population in Crimea, deserve to be protected by the Russian government.

The

"Crimea is over 60% ethnic Russian, at least."

"ethnic Ukrainians (40%, so the ethnic population is a minority) who are openly hostile to Russians (immigrants/legal and illegal and invaders) and have stated a desire to be free from Russian influence"

"The elected government of Ukraine was overthrown by a reportedly nationalist movement led by ethnic Ukrainians" The minorty of ETHNIC POPULATION OF UKRAINE WANTS TO BE A SOVREIGN NATATION/STATE and are histole to the invading Russians who showed the west what they thiunk of Democracy by election through Russian majority a president who appeased Putin/Russia, not ETHINIC UKRAINIANS.

"Russia has financial and military interests, as well as the largest concentrated population of Russians in diaspora, in Crimea. Russians interests and people, the majority of the population in Crimea, deserve to be protected by the Russian government.

But the ETHILC UKRAINIANS have no interests with the agreements they made with the EU/US/UN and NATO?

And what's this about: "deserve to be protected by the Russian government"

DESERVE to be protected???? By th Russian government??? Really? So you believe that government protects people or just Russian government?

Hehe...

Rand wants sanctions too. Ron thinks his son is criminal.

Rand needs some timeout with his nose in the corner until he learns better behavior. :)

David Rockefeller on autodetermination

“We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years......It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supernational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past centuries.”
― David Rockefeller

this is an odd theory

Russia invaded Crimea....disturbing Ukraine's borders and sovereignty...how is that justified?

"Government is the entertainment division of the military-industrial complex". - Frank Zappa

No. We MuST fight Russia!

Crimea belongs to Khazaria .
It is OUR responsibility to go to war in Europe, once again, to support the "neo-Nazi" [LOL, really?] movement that installed Prime Minister, Arseniy P. Yatsenyuk [now, there's a neo-Nazi], and Governor, Igor Kolomoysky [neo-Nazi] to fight for the unification of Khazaria

“This scum should be given promises, guarantees, and any concessions…And hung…They should be hung later,” -Boris Filatov, new deputy head of the Dnepropetrovsk region, commenting on mostly Russian-speaking protestors in Crimea.

Russians don't belong in Khazaria. Khazaria is for Khazars.

O.o

Seriously though, whether there is already a deal, and all of the handwringing is smoke and mirrors, or not, I doubt that Russia will willingly give up Sevastopol and our "leaders" know this. Maybe it will be Russia's Guantanamo Bay, or maybe WWIII really has arrived...

Thank you for the links and for naming names. I found this all very interesting, as the situation is much more complicated than it is being portrayed in the "soundbite" media.

Israel-acknowledges-plan-for-reverse-migration-to-Ukraine

Just stumbled across this article, published 3/18. As I stated above, Ukraine/Crimea belongs to Khazars and we, the US, have an obLIgatiON to go to war with Russia so they can have it.

Leaked report: Israel acknowledges Jews in fact Khazars; Secret plan for reverse migration to Ukraine
"Speaking on deep background, a well-placed source in intelligence circles said: “We’re not talking about all the Ashkenazi Jews going back to Ukraine. Obviously that is not practical. The press as usual exaggerates and sensationalizes; this is why we need military censorship.”

Khazaria 2.0?

All Jews who wish to return would be welcomed back without condition as citizens, the more so if they take part in the promised infusion of massive Israeli military assistance, including troops, equipment, and construction of new bases. If the initial transfer works, other West Bank settlers would be encouraged to relocate to Ukraine, as well. After Ukraine, bolstered by this support, reestablishes control over all its territory, the current Autonomous Republic of Crimea would once again become an autonomous Jewish domain. The small-scale successor to the medieval empire of Khazaria (as the peninsula, too, was once known) would be called, in Yiddish, Chazerai"
Leaked report: Israel acknowledges Jews in fact Khazars; Secret plan for reverse migration to Ukraine

It more or less sounds like an Israeli (Or would that be Zionist? It's all so confusing.) plan to colonize Ukraine.

Reverse migration is an interesting subject

Some Jewish activists have, in recent years, proposed a new plan either in addition to or as an alternative to the Zionist project---a Jewish state within the borders of modern Thuringia, Germany, centered on the city of Weimar. The project has been called "Medinat Weimar."
http://medinatweimar.org/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOP7h7C8j_0

It has appealed to some who regret the consequences of Zionism in the Middle East:

http://www.timesofisrael.com/former-dutch-pm-jews-shouldve-h...

In reality, although this plan for a sovereign Jewish state in Germany is not gaining any real traction, the German government has already begun issuing citizenship and passports to the descendants of Jews whose ancestors happened to live in Germany at some earlier point in history but who emigrated during the period of the Third Reich. This is in addition to large numbers of Jews from the fromer Soviet Union and elsewhere who have immigrated to Germany in recent decades.

http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/04/16/11230508-desce...

In many cases, even having a single Jewish grandparent, who may have only resided briefly in German territory, is sufficient to acquire a German passport. Many American Jews are able to freely reside in Germanny for this reason, whereas the descendants of those Germans who emigrated to the United States in the 1800s, or descend from those German communities in Eastern Europe that were liquidated by the Soviets, are unable to obtain passports and citizenship.

That barely scratched the surface.

The new CFR president, Richard Haass has constantly pushed destabilization and Balkanization of Ukraine, so that "more likeable" leaders could be installed into the various new districts; and now is concerned that "We Could Well Be Looking at ‘Prolonged Russian Control of Crimea’" John Kerry, Victoria Nuland, Geoff Pyatt, etc...all names, you've probably heard recently. They're playing a dangerous game that could easily turn ugly. And, how do you trust people who openly suggest "give them promises and guarantees, then hang them"? Putin can't just leave the Russians in Crimea to fend for themselves, or can he? That's a scary thought. At any rate, I don't see him giving up his naval base without a fight. Interesting times.

They should have went through a process

I'm not sure exactly what is going on or what happened, but if some of the people of Crimea, Ukraine, want to join Russia, there should have been a formal declaration of that and a date set for a vote. If they voted in favor, then they should have declared independence from Ukraine. Only then, and if people were being physically injured in some way, should Russia have grounds to go into Crimea.
Again, I don't know what in the hell is really going on there. This is just my reasoning on the situation, going by what I've heard.

The date has been set for March 16, 2014.

They had previously decided to hold it later, sometime in May I believe along with regular national elections, but in the circumstances they brought it forward.

There has indeed been a formal declaration and a request made to the Russian Federation to join them if the result of the referendum is to do so. It is most likely to be the result since 60% of Crimeans are Russian citizens or Russian speaking. Most of the others, with the exception of the Crimean Tatars, will probably go along with that sentiment for their own reasons.

In favour of doing so is the parlous condition of the Ukrainian economy, quite apart from any emotional ties to Mother Russia. (Crimea was a part of Russia for 300 years until 1954 when Kruschev "gifted" it to the Ukrainian Socialist Republic that was also part of the then Soviet Union.)

Russia has not gone into Crimea as the Western media falsely allege. They are already there since they have naval and military installations in Sevastopol. They have strengthened their presence in those bases as they are permitted to do so under existing lease agreements. President Putin has declared two main principles for the government of the Russian Federation: 1) The Rule of Law and 2) the Sovereignty of the People. That is how he governs and how he conducts himself in the international arena.

His university degree was in international law and he has stated emphatically that, especially since the former Soviet Republics are in a formative stage of development, they must avoid all illegal actions and keep faithfully to the Constitutions they have agreed to. It is the failure to do so that has brought about the collapse of Ukraine in his opinion. Personally I believe he is correct.

There is a programme of deliberate misinformation being followed in the Western media, as usual, and it is being used to cover up the actions of the US and the EU in these events and to focus invidious attention on Russia who has actually done all she can to avoid the present situation. The last thing Putin wants or needs is this kind of conflict on Russia's borders. The aim is to profit the US/EU/NATO axis and to wound the Russian Federation and its allies, including Ukraine.

feel free to stand with Rand,

but my icon is Ron

“Although it was the middle of winter, I finally realized that, within me, summer was inextinguishable.” — Albert Camus

Im with Ron Paul

I must say I like Ron's stance on this much better than Rands....im glad ron weighed in on this.

Take note rand ! we don't like the meddling in others affairs !

Couple issues with this

Couple issues with this statement:

1) Let us not pretend that what is going on in Crimea is remotely Democratic. There is a high chance that the vote will be doctored and manipulated.

2) Really, this is Ron's argument? That because a majority of Crimeans want to join up with Russia, it is OK? What about individual rights?

Ah and Rand Paul once again

Ah and Rand Paul once again comes down on the wrong side of his father and history. What a legacy he's building for himself.

Can I just point out that

Can I just point out that Rand Paul's foreign policy w/regard to this issue is aligned with Obama, and not his Papa?

Must be another one of his slick political jujitsu moves. Wouldn't want to hold him accountable or anything.

Jujitsu, lol, I love it! This

Jujitsu, lol, I love it! This site is so full of delusional morons these days when it comes to Rand that I forget there are still intelligent, thinking members left like yourself. Thanks for the great comment.

I think morons would be a bit

I think morons would be a bit harsh for a lot of Rand fans. A lot of people are really fed up and are putting their faith in Rand for Hope and Change.

I hope I am just too much of an idiot to get his brilliance and he is the second coming of his pops, but i would be ignoring my gut feeling to buy in. He hasn't done anything to make me hate him, he has just done enough to make me kinda like him, but not love him. I would love to see him and Hillary mono y mono in debates, because he is way smarter than her.

yep

just like America had the right to transfer sovreignity over the panama canel to China (then we get to spend the next 2 decades fighting a war (on drugs) from panama.

You mean the Canal that was a result of early Imperialism...

..that we never had a right to in the first place??

Another horrible example...

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." -- James Madison

Yeah, the one that made trade faster

We had no right to it?

American technology designed, engineered the Panama Canal. Americans made deals with the Panamanians, who welcomed the idea because they knew it would be jobs, as it is. The Panimanians did not have the technology, equipment, ability to build the canal.

Americans ran the canal, and they taught Panamanians to run the canal.. opening channels, scheduling passages.

After nam, Carter gave the canal to China. China now occupies and operates the canal. Do you have a problem with that? Is it OK for China to occupy and operate the canal as it's ok for Russia to occupy and operate the Ukraine?

You like Communism. face it.

Your ignorance is astounding....

You do know that Carter never gave anything to China??

"Panama still chafed over the United States controlling the canal. Rioting and conflicts with US personnel caused major problems for relations between the two countries. In 1977, a new treaty was proposed which would phase out US control, and turn the Panama Canal over to Panama...On December 31, 1999, the Panama Canal became operated entirely by Panama for the first time in history, though over the proceeding 20 years, the United States had been slowly turning it over to them."

So please make no further claims referencing the Canal....as you clearly have no clue as to the real history of it, or even the current status of it.

Like I said....Horrible example.

You like Fascism. Face it.

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." -- James Madison

deep sigh

After construction, the canal and the Canal Zone surrounding it were administered by the United States. On 7 September 1977, U.S. President Jimmy Carter signed the Torrijos-Carter Treaty, which set in motion the process of handing over the canal to Panamanian control. The treaty came into force on 1 October 1979 and provided for a twenty-year period during which Panama would have increasing responsibilities for Canal operations, culminating in complete U.S. withdrawal on 31 December 1999. Since then the canal has been run by the Panama Canal Authority or the Autoridad de Canal de Panama ( the ACP).

The treaty was highly controversial in the U.S., and its passage was difficult. The controversy was largely caused by contracts to manage two ports at either end of the canal, which were awarded by Panama to a Hong Kong-based conglomerate, Hutchison Whampoa. Republicans contend that the company has close ties to the Chinese government and the Chinese military.[8] However, the U.S. State Department says it has found no evidence of connections between Hutchison Whampoa and Beijing.[9] Some Americans were also wary of placing this strategic waterway under the protection of the Panamanian security force.[10]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Panama_Canal

After the Veitnam war, Carter signed the treaty.. and it looks to me, it was spoils for the loss of the war, and why I say Carter handed it to the Chinese, who make the profit from it, thus, they might as well own it.

What this has to do with fasicm I don't know. Islam is fascist and I don't like Islam, ask anyone here.
