Myers-Briggs Test: What type of personality are you?

In my opinion, it is important for a person's long-term happiness to know themselves - as much as possible. Being aware of what type of personality you have is a valuable asset in that endeavor.

In another post, user matt_ wrote a comment that mentioned the Myers-Briggs Test. After StartPaging the test, I found a simple one that only consists of four questions. I was amazed once I read about the results I obtained.

According to the test, I am of the type ISTP. From Wikipedia:

According to Myers-Briggs, ISTPs excel at analyzing situations to reach the heart of a problem so that they can swiftly implement a functional repair, making them ideally suited to the field of engineering. Naturally quiet people, they are interested in understanding how systems operate, focusing on efficient operation and structure. But contrary to their seemingly detached nature, ISTPs are often capable of humorously insightful observations about the world around them. ISTPs abhor waste (be it in time, effort, or resources) but are highly adaptable, making them open to new information and approaches. They enjoy exploring new things, and can become bored with repetitiveness and routine. They can also be closet daredevils who gravitate toward fast-moving or risky hobbies (such as bungee jumping, hang gliding, racing, motorcycling, and skydiving), recreational sports (such as downhill skiing, paintball, ice hockey, and scuba diving), and careers (such as aviation and firefighting).

ISTPs may sometimes seem to act without regard for procedures, directions, protocol, or even their own safety. But while their approach may seem haphazard, it is in fact based on a broad store of knowledge developed over time through action and keen observation. ISTPs enjoy self-sufficiency and take pride in developing their own solutions to problems.

ISTPs can often be a frustration to their friends or partners due to a propensity to ignore everyone while deeply absorbed in a task. The ISTP should be careful that they do not cause offence by this seeming aloofness, as it could have a negative impact on otherwise great relationships.

ISTPs are content to let others live according to their own rules and preferences, as long as the favor is reciprocated. ISTPs endure reasonable impositions without complaint — but if their "territory" is encroached upon, eroded, or violated, their quiet, easy-going nature is quickly abandoned in favor of stubborn and staunch defense of what they view as rightfully theirs. It has been observed that a slogan that best describes this ISTP attitude is "Don't Tread On Me."

The description pretty much hits the nail on the head. I'm happy to be in good company:

What type of personality do you have?

It's funny my

It's funny my entrepreneurship prof at usc said the same thing about what type of business to start: "find a need in the world that you can fulfill." I wonder if she jocked aristotle.

Same here, dwalters

That description is me to a T!

Add another ISTP to the list.

Add another ISTP to the list. Dont tread on me!

Truth before all else.....it is what will allow us to emerge with dignity and honor.

I'm a person

I live my life without letters or classifications from other people.

Just sayin... :)

ENTJ - the most rare

I promise I'm not planning world domination or anything:

Other ENTJ's:

Julius Caesar
Napoleon
Alexander Hamilton
Bill Gates
Karl Rove
Dick Cheney

Am I going to be Ok? (That's just snarky humor - I know I'm not as messed up as those guys.)

Wiki explanation:

"ENTJs have a natural tendency to marshal and direct. This may be expressed with the charm and finesse of a world leader or with the insensitivity of a cult leader. The ENTJ requires little encouragement to make a plan. One ENTJ put it this way... "I make these little plans that really don't have any importance to anyone else, and then feel compelled to carry them out." While "compelled" may not describe ENTJs as a group, nevertheless the bent to plan creatively and to make those plans reality is a common theme for NJ types."

I am always working on a plan to control my personal chaos and I do have a habit of daydreaming about the future.

Might want to recheck the most rare title.

From what I have seen, there is 2 or 3 that are rarer.

Ah, I see now

it says one of the most rare.

I am an INTJ

That makes us about the same except that I am introverted dominant. That probably means we look at things similar, but I am in the corner being quite. People usually think I am plotting something, and I am. lol.

I am most likely thinking of how to bring someone around to my point of view without them knowing it was my intention.

My hubby is an extreme INTJ

He maxes out the introvert on the introvert scale. He'll go with me to one social function per year.

He's a computer programmer, so sitting in the corner being quiet is a dream come true for him.

He probably has people ask him if he is OK all the time.

It is an extroverts world, and being introverted is often thought to be some kind of problem. I keep a small circle of people I enjoy being around, meanwhile my wife has a couple hundred facebook "friends". She keeps in touch with my extended family for me, not because I don't like them, but because I find it tedious. I also find small talk tedious as well, but I get excited to talk about deep philisophical subjects, which most people don't concern themselves with. It's great when people have unique stories, and they can actually tell if they are boring you. I hate fake smiling, but I don't want to offend them.

I should type test my wife but I know for sure she is an extrovert, hostess, take care of everyone type. If you guys are anything like us it probably balances out well. I don't think it would be good for me to be paired up with another introvert. We compliment each other well.

LOL - Yeah, all the time

I handle all the family correspondence, phone calls, etc. Sometimes I get questions from church folk about why he doesn't go 3x a week -I'm just honest-he's an introvert.

I'm a ENTJ also!

We should unite...together, we could rule the world! Of course after we have conquered it, I will have to make you disappear so that it WILL BE ALL MINE...MINE AND MINE ALONE....HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

im an intp. but 1 out of the

im an intp. but 1 out of the 5 times i took it i was an intj. Im actually suprised there are so many intp's as well since intp is supposed to be rare.

I'd recommend taking a more

I'd recommend taking a more in-depth test like the one here:
http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

Came up with INTJ for mine, which is ridiculously accurate. I am the Jungian 1%

Also INTP

A little surprised how many INTP's on this site.... but it makes sense actually.

Christmas tree

I think I am a match for the items you say in your list, although I did have to take a Myers Briggs test at work, so both I and my manager "Christmas Tree'd" it... lo and behold, everything still matched up... for both of us!

I honestly believe it is more like a horoscope... you get the result and you agree with it, no matter what the result is.

It seems to me that it is more of a test of trying to pigeon hole people's potential and put labels on them. I wouldn't be surprised if Carl Gustav Jung was funded by the Rotheschilds... it is worth looking into.

I am a giraffe

long neck. See what's coming.

There is nothing strange about having a bar of soap in your right pocket, it's just what's happening.

INTP

Happily married to an ESFP.

Interesting post. I'm curious to know what the following people are:

Michael Nystrom (my favorite website, thank you sir)
Mike Maloney (love his style and honesty)
Cyril (thanks for the provocative posts)
Rand Paul (how close to Dad?)
Quiltingsando (sweet lady of concern for all)
Barack Obama (is that your real name?)
Lew Rockwell (love those Mises to pises)
Dextersyd (great guy, guessing you are an ES)
Larry Pratt (GOA: Balls. In the den of vipers selling viper poison)

...and many others. God bless you all.

I FEEL like THINKING

ESTJ

... think I'm the only one who posted this personality type?!

ESTJ here too...

I posted before i saw your post. I can't remember what it all means.

Minnesota Mary

poll from 2008

When I saw this, I realized that Ron Paul didn't have a chance because he was the choice of a couple of rare rational personality types, much more numerous personality types, the kind of people who watch Oprah, couldn't grasp RP. Outreach needed.

Anyway, you will want to open this.

INFP here.

INFP here.

If you walk blindly through life, you will run into a lot of walls.

INTJ

INTJ.

INTJ's are in the crow's nest rocking the boat and pointing to places beyond everyone elses' horizon. Rocks ahead! Go that way!

That's why the Libertarian Party has such a tough time: 1. they don't have enough people rowing the boat, 2. they scare people by going places no one has been, before, and 3. their candidates point out "the obvious" that most people can't see (like Ron Paul does).

I became a member of the LP because I saw the professions of their candidates included programmers, physicists, economists, mathematicians, engineers, and chemists; no incumbents.

INTJ's are about 2% of the population (which is probably for the best--crow's nests aren't that big). iNtutives are about 25% of the population. That is another reason why we have a hard time: the Sensates don't see around corners--they have to learn from experience or history, and they outnumber us.

Sensates are pragmatic and accepting of Statists and do well dealing with "reality" and bureaucracy. But the government turns them into libertarians one by one, as it betrays their trust.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

ISTJ

Just like most of the military. How did I end up here with all you N's?

I'm an ISTJ, also

and I never had anything to do with the military. Lucky us, we have Donald Rumsfield and Condoleeza Rice...sigh...well,also Kris Kristofferson and Julia Roberts.

INTP

here with a grand idea.

Why are we not going door to door collecting this information by zip code, then we can calculate the personality predisposition for a given area.

With the information about these personality traits we can craft targeted liberty messages based on their personalities which would in-turn allow us to communicate with their subconscious.

We could then disseminate that targeted message (art, articles, flyers, whatever ) in those areas.

Isn't that what Obama did?

Efff polls, this is the future!

We need to make an app for this!

I think it's doable

...

did I win
did I win ?

INTJ here

INTJ also....though the J/P was the toughest one for me.
