Killed for Camping: Albuquerque Police Chief - "Shooting was Justified"

Thanks to Brian Middleton for YT:

LiveLeak video shows Albuquerque Police murdering homeless man for "illegally camping".

Police say 38-year-old James M. Boyd is the man who was killed. Boyd was arguing with police for hours last Sunday in the foothills after officers were going to talk to him about illegally camping.

At Friday’s press conference, Chief Gordon Eden said Boyd pulled two knives on the officers when they first went to talk to him.

Chief Eden said Officers Keith Sandy and Dominque Perez each fired their rifles three times.
It’s unclear how many bullets hit Boyd.

Albuquerque Police Department: Shooting was Justified

Chief Eden said officers fired because Boyd made a direct threat at the canine officer who was unarmed. (emphasis mine)

My question is... Why isn't the DOG considered a weapon?

Came across this update:

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – District Attorney Kari Brandenburg plans to file murder charges on Monday against the two Albuquerque police officers who shot James Boyd in the Sandia Foothills last March, according to multiple sources with firsthand knowledge of her decision.

It will mark the first time an APD officer has faced criminal charges for shooting someone in the line of duty in New Mexico’s largest city. APD has one of the highest rates of police shootings in the country, and Boyd’s death was the result of the most controversial in a series of 27 fatal shootings here since 2010.

Wow,,, that didn't sound like

a round fired to disable,, it was a psycho(s)with guns!!!
multi rounds,,, that psycho got off on that!

the police don't value human life...

We live in a society where people have no value. Our system encourages this type of behavior from cops.

Unless/until we overthrow the current government this type of incident will only increase in frequency.

I believe we're approaching a point where individuals will start shooting police out of fear as soon as contact is initiated...

At their inceptions, the #Liberty, #OccupyWallStreet and #TeaParty movements all had the same basic goal... What happened?

Here is a message..

Something is wrong

When cops are going out of their way to get to kill people.
While the homeless man may have said stupid things in the situation, it wasn't like he charged them or anything, this was an execution.

Here is the live leak uncut video

He did pull a knife but not before the scum bag murdering pigs shot at him first, then he turned away from them and they shot him in the back. With out those badges and guns, they are nothing. They are cowards

kind people rock

Woah woah woah.

Don't mess with the Feds, is the message we should all take from this. Absolutely brutal.

another example of police state

They claim he pulled knives(as THEY were running in at him). But they white out the VICTIM as this is happening,so you can't see if he did pull a knife.Another example of the police going to far & making up the story to cover their brutality upon the people!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure that was

I'm pretty sure that was removed to avoid issue with the YouTube terms of service. The man was violently shot and killed, it makes sense that's censored.

I question the wisdom of his actions, but to be fair a member of the gang had already launched a grenade at him and demonstrated violent intent when he supposedly pulled the knives.

if they really wanted

if they really wanted to end the situation fast all they had to do was fire a round or two in the air or near the dudes feet and in a extreme case at the dudes legs. but six shots directly? wow just wow

i agree

but if you get to the point where you are pulling the trigger, it should be to kill though. That's how you train. You don't train to shoot a would rapist or whatever in the leg. You train to completely incapacitate an attacker to prevent any and all future attacks.

that may be how they are

that may be how they are trained but it sure does not seem to happen in this case. a gun is not just for killing people like the way you put it. it can be used as for intimidation or to slow down a escalating situation with a shot to a non fatal part of the body.. a kill shot should only be used if the officers life is in fatal position where there is no turning back. the officers are not the judge and jury to say who is guilty or not guilty. the officers no matter how trained should use common sense and match the amount of force applied with each situation. i have seen countless videos of officers using their firearms more wisely than shown here, like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40ihDTHpHs8

shooting someone in the leg

is not enough to stop that person from trying to kill or hurt you (or anyone else). If you have to pull, it should be the absolute last resort, but if you have to pull it needs to be safe, quick and accurate and it must insure that your target is incapacitated before he/she can inflict any harm to you or anyone else. God forbid you have to shoot an attacker, you shoot them in the leg, it doesn't stop them and they get to you. Or you panic and unload more rounds and accidentally hit an innocent. Under stress people do unpredictable things.

Hey, I am not disagreeing this situation was ridic and the cops over reacted given the crime(? if that is a crime). What I am saying is, the COPs , had they been properly trained and weren't D-bags, could have easily de-escalated the situation without having to pull the gun from the holster. If they knew what they were doing and weren't sociopaths, they could have handled the situation without even having to raise their voices. There are also these things like tazers that can incapacitate in one shot. Those COPs were clearly looking for a reason to pull, and I fully agree they those cops are in the wrong.

Cops can not be trusted

Unarmed man gets killed for what?
How many cops had to "shoot"?
Why are these cops so afraid of this homeless man?
Too many questions...Why the explosion, and dog attack, then bam,bam,bam....Can't trust cops nowadays.
They have too many mental issues.

just another

police state.

WTF! I see a dog let lose on a man then hes shot for defending/running from the dog!
Won't be long before normal folks start shooting police.
Exactly what the elites want.

People ought not kill other people for camping.

What is "illegal camping"? Should it carry a death penalty?

Maybe I'm crazy..

but if I lived there I'd work to organize a really big camping trip!

A "Campers Not Cops Brigade" sounds completely doable. It needs to be done before it gets too hot though.

Spreading the idea~

I'm putting the idea out here and there.. a lot of people are up in arms so this would give them the chance to STAND UP! and show their rage at the way this and other misdeeds are/were handled.

edit: I examined my feelings and substituted rage! for indignation.

What's That Old Saying...?

"Don't bring a knife to a gunfight"? The new formula seems to be: K9 = Death. Since police dogs are now considered officers, people must literally offer up their jugulars to these animals since ANY attempt to protect oneself from their snarling jaws is now a justification for the use of lethal force by cops.

Since death has virtually been made an inevitability through this bizarre form of law enforcement logic, the only question is "whose death(s)?" Once people have caught on to the consequences of the "new math", cases of 'preemptive self defense' are bound to become more common.

and they thought..

the "3 strikes law" would make desperate criminals out of common criminals..

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

Not killed for camping

Killed because they could. He was without financial means, which if you have stopped paying attention, is the measure of a man in these times. Has been for quite a while. That really is what is wrong at its base. A sense of elitism. The bankers have it, hell we all have it.

I was framed by the police (when I was 18) for vehicular manslaughter of a cops brother. We were in the wrong place at the wrong time. We had hit the curb on a sharp left while trying to lose a friend that really wasn't. The cops had us on the wrong road, but changing a tire near where the cops brother was hit and run. We had no damage, but they pursued us for weeks. What called off the dogs? My father worked for CBS. 60 minutes inquired, it all was dropped like a hot potato. I later found out the kid was knocked out of his shoes. There would have been major damage to the car. The cops were perfectly capable of framing us, telling me "Yeah, you didn't do this, but I'm sure you've done other things worse, we are just getting you for this". Cops are dirty as all get out, but they respect money, or power, or station. They bark to their master of the elite. This guy wasn't and was killed because they could and I guess it gives them a thrill. Just sad. I think we live in Roman times sometimes.

Comment from the article

Comment from the article summarized it best. The cops attack someone causing a threatening situation, then justify the killing because they felt threatened.

Cops kill dogs all the time

I wonder what would happen if someone killed a cop who was threatening a dog???

That's a rhetorical question btw.

Police officer shot dead after pointing stun gun at man's dogs

A police officer killed while responding to a domestic disturbance in a small eastern Pennsylvania borough had pointed a stun gun at two dogs before being shot, court records reveal.

Freemansburg police officer Robert Lasso had pointed at the attacking dogs when the homeowner pulled out a shotgun and fired the fatal blast on Thursday evening.

In police custody, the alleged gunman, 46-year-old George Hitcho Jr, said he had told Mr Lasso to get off his property and not come on unless he had a warrant, authorities said.
