Maryland House of Delegates votes to use threat of eminent domain to keep “House of Cards” from moving to another state

The Maryland House of Delegates recently voted to use the threat of eminent domain to force the hit TV show House of Cards to keep filming in the state [HT: Jacob Gershman of the Wall Street Journal]

Responding to a threat that the “House of Cards” television series may leave Maryland if it doesn’t get more tax credits, the House of Delegates adopted budget language Thursday requiring the state to seize the production company’s property if it stops filming in the state.

There's no good guy in this

There's no good guy in this story. House of Cards (which I love btw) is trying to use government to get a leg up on the competition.

"Sure is a nice production company you got there;

It would be a shame if anything happened to it".

Typical mafia thuggery.

At least the author got it right.

Makes me want to cancel my Netflix account and NEVER visit Maryland.

Silly HOC producers. Did they

Silly HOC producers. Did they think the MD govt thugs would not extract their pound of flesh one way or another?

Maybe if they agree to have Frank say nice things about Obamacare the Feds will step in with a subsidy to offset the lost MD tax break.

Ain't crony capitalism fun kids?

They should stop filming in

They should stop filming in Maryland immediately, simply because of that threat. Who are they to tell a company that they are not allowed to leave the state. Ridiculous.
