I Can’t Finish House of Cards (and Should’ve Stopped Breaking Bad)

Don’t worry – no spoilers here.

Disgusting. Unrealistic. Waste of time. – That’s my summing up of House of Cards (second season) on Netflix.

Yeah, the first season was great, a little bit over the top but pretty good overall. Loved it.

Onto the second season. I’m a few episodes in and…really? Seriously? The disgusting, macabre nature of the show was beginning to turn me away.

Why do shows nowadays revolve around people’s sexcapades?

And I should’ve stopped watching Breaking Bad. The last few episodes were just downright disturbing.

Maybe I’ll turn on PBS tonight and see if any new Lawrence Welk episodes have been released (sigh).

Breaking Bad

Was the greatest.

I'd also recommend Bates Motel, mother Bates is amazing.

Breaking bad

was incredible!

I concur that it can be dark/gruesome/intense/sad etc, but that's just all part of the intense ride. Brilliant, Brilliant show- I'm glad you finished that at least.

Amazing show. Best show ever. Not even close.

It's for the same reasons

that I stopped reading New York Times best-selling fiction. Whether pertaining to sex, vulgarity, and/or horror, these authors (or their publishers) seem to want to outdo each other. I haven't seen either of those programs and doubt I ever will, now. You might want to check out the Jeeves & Wooster series, based on P.G. Wodehouse stories. House Of Cards wasn't that

House Of Cards wasn't that bad. A few of my favorite shows would have to be Orphan Black, Vikings, Black Sails, and Sherlock.

I Love

Orphan Black

I just

got to the part in Season 3 of Breaking Bad where they are in the junkyard with the guy who says "I'm a Libertarian" LOL

"libertarian" is a big theme in BB

Ron Paul 2008 sticker is even shown briefly in one episode... and the other cook, Gale, was a libertarian...

Too bad. Two of the best shows out there.

Perhaps you should try Big Bang or Two and a Half Men.

Leges sine moribus vanae

Lol. Everyone is always

Lol. Everyone is always talking about House of Cards, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and other shows. I haven't seen any episodes of any of them. People look at me like I'm weird, but I just don't really care to watch that much TV. Some of those shows could be great. I don't know. I don't have cable and just don't really care about most TV.

I watch them all

And don't have cable or a TV. There's this cool invention called the internet, lol.

Is that the series of tubes

Is that the series of tubes I've heard so much about?
To be fair, I watch sports and some comedy shows and things and do it all online.

GOT is excellent

Really compelling stories. Game of thrones will let you see that today is not all that different from the middle ages.

These shows you speak of, I

These shows you speak of, I haven't a clue.

I'm probably the only American never to watch "Breaking Bad."

To me, Hollywood is toxic to the mind and spirit.

People who think movies, TV and video games don't influence human behavior are kidding themselves. I say to these people, travel the world, you'll change your mind on the subject.

Not many people watched the first 3 seasons of BB

...it didn't get popular until season 4....

1-3 were the best seasons, imho... Season 4 was still amazing though...

I've never seen Breaking Bad... but I expect that I will sooner or later.

Three words:

Game of Thrones

Hear, hear!

GoT is the greatest show of all time based on the greatest fantasy books of all time.

I'm in with that!

Best ever.

Breaking Bad was hands down

Breaking Bad was hands down one of the best series. Yes, it was gruesome at times and yes it is about illegal stuff but the storyline was solid. I recommend watching it. Not for kids.

I'm with you

I couldn't finish Breaking Bad. I'm not prude, that's for sure...but the immorality of it all made me feel dirty and manipulated. It felt like propaganda from the devil (if there so happened to be one).
I felt as though it was designed to make me feel like such immorality was OK. I certainly believe that sociopaths on the edge would be influenced by such.
I just decided to turn it off and entertained myself with more positive and happy stuff. I deserve better.

That is an excellent

That is an excellent assessment of Breaking Bad. I couldn't say it any better myself. That said, I watched the whole series, and in retrospect, I had to ask myself why. Why would I allow such unedifying poison into my home and into my mind? Why would I submit myself to such a glut of horror and human debasement? Still I have no answer that I am comfortable with. If nothing else came from watching the series, that I am still capable of knowing right from wrong and good from evil, and that I am not totally numb to it makes me grateful to God. Regardless, I need to keep in mind that old saying, "Garbage in. Garbage out", and do better to allow more good in.

Leverage was a good series

As is Foyle's War, Defiance, Rubicon, Elementary, Sherlock, Person of Interest, New Tricks, Falling Skies, Single Handed, World War II - Behind Closed Doors, Wallander, Life on Mars (British Version,) Murphy's Law, Survivors, Nowhere Man, George Gently, Fortunes of War, State of Play, The State Within, The Last Detective, and maybe I few others I can't recall right now. :-)

Sad Leverage is over

We loved that one too

I Agree

Season 2 went too fast. Not that the episodes went quick, but how the plot moved to the climax. Each episode actually kind of slowed down on "meat" and complexity compared to season one, yet the climactic turn of events seemed unrealistic. IMO they should have stretched out Frank Underwood's time as Majority Whip quite a bit longer so as to extend the evolution of this character.
