No joke - 2014 NYPD vs FDNY Charity Hockey Game Results in 25-minute Brawl

Brawl For Charity at Annual NYPD vs. FDNY Hockey Fight

Amanda Warren
Activist Post

There is an old joke that says, "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out." Certainly fitting when applied to the latest from New York's annual charity game that sees the NYPD face off on the ice against city firefighters. It could also be viewed as an act of Karma that real public servants (of whom I consider firefighters to be among our very finest) would wind up delivering a couple of beatings to the thugs in blue.

While it is hasn't been explicitly reported, I'm going to take a wild guess that it was the NYPD who initiated the 25-minute brawl that you'll see a piece of in the video below, as this particular police department always seems to be a hair's breadth away from gratuitous displays of violence.

Today's annual charity hockey game between the FDNY and NYPD devolved into a full-out brawl at Nassau Coliseum with the score tied at three. Cops and firefighters were beating the crap out of each other.

In a final note of irony, the charity event takes place in order to raise money for the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund ... as these peace officers swing at their brethren with bad intentions, surely hoping to create a few more widows and fatherless children...

Ie. Planned in advance. That's my hunch

Not one for hockey

But I tend to agree with your assessment.
A few things I noticed..they dropped their sticks(weapons)
And they took off their helmets...This one, didn't make sense if they were
really wanting to protect their heads.

The point of fighting is to get hit.

Of anyone who doesn't know this: there are people in this world who really enjoy fighting, brawling and bleeding.

If you have any of these people in your life make sure they are on your side.

Get some. they are some of the kindest people in this world -

they've looked death in the teeth and thought of their mother's grief. They seek balance among the nerds. They want to hear the cold truth, disdain sycophancy and will tell you they love you without shame.

NYPD and FDNY Brawl at Annual Charity Hockey Game

The story of Lt. Richard Hamilton's 24 years on the job with the FDNY. As the most decorated firefighter in the department's history it is no surprise that when he retired, his badge (Badge 51) was retired with him. He began his career with Ladder 17 in the South Bronx in 1950. Eventually he began working on Rescue Companies and completed his tenure with the department at Rescue 2 in Brooklyn. In between he was involved in numerous fires and rescues and was on the front lines during the infamous "War Years" in the Big Apple. Many interesting side stories about sad, unusual, and sometimes humorous situations.
