GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A second television political ad released by businessman Brian Ellis again targets U.S. Rep. Justin Amash's votes, asking Third District viewers to consider what representation they're receiving in Congress.
The new spot claims Amash, R-Cascade Township, doesn't uphold the conservative values voters elected him to represent. The congressman is singled out for being the only Michigan Republican voting against a balanced budget amendment and a 2012 abortion bill — the subject of Ellis' first ad.
"Think you know Justin Amash? Think again," says the narrator, mentioning select votes during his terms in the House. "Justin Amash, he's not who you think he is."
Fiscal issues now are addressed in this second ad, whereas Amash is targeted for voting against a Balanced Budget Amendment in November 2011. The bill failed in the House with a vote of 261-165. It needed 284 votes to pass.
Amash, R-Cascade Township, previously was attacked for voting "no" on the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, in effect alleging him in permitting the practice of gender selection abortions. FactCheck.org followed up with the ad and called it "misleading" because it did not mention Amash's anti-abortion stance despite this vote and two other "present" votes.
