I really hope this does not happen. The problem isn't with the constitution, it's with Washington DC. I could count on one hand the number of people I'd trust to make changes to the constitution and none of them will be asked for input, I'm sure.

Congress has no discretion but *must* call for a convention.

The article said it makes some conservatives worry as to what could happen once a convention were convened, but according to George F. Will, the state legislatures can stipulate in advance a "one-item agenda of ratifying the balanced-budge amendment."

I agree with the reporter. It's a historic event. I just wonder how long it will now take the House Speaker to figure out and tell us if all 34 states are still in - ya know, where he has to ascertain the answer in a verifiable way and not just read a pre-scripted outcome off a teleprompter.

No, our rights under the Bill of Rights cannot be taken away through the amendment process. These rights are unalienable, they don't come from the federal or state government.

I'd like to see the 16th and 17th amendments repealed, and an amendment addressing term limits.

It has never happened before...

...so no one really knows what can or cannot happen.

As for our rights being inalienable, that's true, but the government and the thugs they will send to arrest you do not care about that, and it is a major concern that basic constitutional rights could be stricken from the constitution by the same destroyers of this country that have been ignoring it.

I would also like to see the 16 & 17th repealed.

A con-con could work, but it would be very risky right now.

This isn't about politics. Politics are used to divide and consolidate power of control.

The real revolution has moved on from the political distraction. And it did so some time ago.

It's about culture, and the Golden Rule knows no boarders.

life is dynamic. Anything worth doing in life is risky. I simply do not share your fear. The government has already arrested people for standing up for their rights. Whether the issue is filming the police, or open carry in states where it is constitutional, it is all risky business. I subscribed a long time ago to a simple philosophy, I'd rather stand on my feet as a free person, than on bended knees as a servant.

Let's look at the glass as half full. There are too many people watching these days. What happened at the Bundy ranch was reported by alternative media, citizens with cellphones and cameras and uploaded to the internet. The MSM wasn't necessary, think about that. Compare this to the seige at Waco in 1993. People believed the government narrative pushed by the MSM because it was the only access to reporting they had at the time.

BTW, I'm quoting from the original Declaration of Independence which states:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights..."

...about what you're saying about life being risky, and there's no great reward without taking risk. I agree the government is already out-of-control and ignoring the constitution. You make a lot of good points that I agree with.

I'm not in "fear" of a con-con. But I certainly advocate supreme caution when allowing the very same corrupt government to engage in anything that could potentially re-write the constitution, legally.

Yes, more people are waking up. Yes, people are watching. But how many? How many even knew about this Con-Con reaching the 34 state requirement?

I simply do not trust the individuals running this government.

We're not currently at 34. Some states have rescinded the call

I think it's currently at closer to 24 than 34.

One good thing coming out of this is that people are at least talking about the Constitution.

...that shows which states, if any, have rescinded their call for a con-con? That would be a relief.

But then why is Boehner, Fox news, etc. taking it seriously? I don't trust a con-con as far as a can throw it so I hope it won't happen... at least not yet... there may be a time when we really need one, but the current climate is untrustworthy.

Yes and NO!

A call by the states to convene a Constitutional Convention may only take a 2/3 (66%) vote by the States. But amending the actual Constitution itself during this Conventional Convention is something else altogether.

As I understand the law, it will still take a 3/4 (75%) vote of the States to create any new amendments to our present Constitution.

That's my take and understanding. Open to correction.

...and that is majorly significant!

It will require 75% to actually pass any amendment changes but they cannot get to that point without first calling together the states for the Con-Con itself...
