Watch Connecticut Senator Blumenthal narrowly avoid death by train during a railway safety press conference

http://youtu.be/ircHCzcg3WY
Classic Federal Government behavior!
Actions may speak louder than words, but Sen. Richard Blumenthal took that mentality to the extreme on Friday.

The Connecticut Democrat was standing behind Milford Mayor Ben Blake on the town's Metro-North station platform as the two held a press conference on railway safety. Complete with easels and charts, Blake was laying out the MTA's safety violations, which total 139 over the last 10 years, worth $552,000 in fines.

"Safety, as you know, is paramount," Blake said — and then this happened.

I bet he had to change his shorts though!!!

NOSHEEPLE

Gotta hand it to him...

He didn't even flinch.

Probably why he's a senator.

The are the 'leaders'?

The are the 'leaders'?

"Safety as you know, is paramount".... FAIL

That couldn't have been timed to look any stupider. Yet I wouldn't be surprised if it was...

Milford, my old home town before moving to South Carolina after hurricane Sandy, was also in the news recently because Milford PD (who are really bad) began gun confiscation in the state by raiding a man's home and confiscating his guns (even the "legal" ones) because he allegedly shot a squirrel in the backyard. A nosy neighbor ratted him out.

My cousin lives only a few houses down from the guy. Hope it wasn't him.

Living in a bubble

This is what happens when someone from the Ivory Tower comes down to the commoners level...This guy looks like he's been living in a "silver spoon" bubble most of his life, never had a callous on his hands, probably doesn't even know what one is.
Keep your PR ass in the tower dude, or you might end up like the fly on the windshield. Rules are made by the elitists for commoners.

I knew by just watching...

that standing on that yellow line was very dangerous.

Politicians don't, generally, follow the rules.

It shows.

"Please stand back from the yellow line"

This message is repeated ad nausea over the loudspeakers on the platforms. They probably heard it at least twice while setting up their little stand.

I wonder how many knew it was coming and said nothing?

Just knowing the train schedule ought to have given a certain percentage of the audience precise knowledge of when that train would be there. Blumenthal could have been the only one who didn't know of the danger he put himself in. More likely it was a careless oversight for some camera-conscious press-angle, but the possibilities are open to some speculation, eh?

Caution...

The big thick yellow line is a clear warning to most folks, meaning Caution! or Heads Up! or Pay Attention! or Alert!

Only a bonehead politician would look at it and think, "Oh this looks like a good place for a press conference and a chart on a tripod."

Don't you know they are above

Don't you know they are above the law and rules do not apply to them.

A good ole lol on the vid!

You are speaking the truth.

But this shows just how ignorant they are. Sure the actual 'rules' may not apply to them, but they should know the Laws of Physics still apply. Silly politicians, physics laws are for everyone!

My thoughts exactly

Any child who has ridden Amtrak, Metro North or any subway for that matter knows that yellow line is DANGER. A politician just expects the speeding through-train to stop because of their AWESOME GREATNESS.

There is nothing strange about having a bar of soap in your right pocket, it's just what's happening.

At least they weren't doing a

At least they weren't doing a safety talk at a fireworks plant.
