Ordinary Americans are powerless, but the US isn’t really an oligarchy

It’s not that ordinary Americans never get what they want from the political system. It’s just that they only get what they want if the elites want the same thing.

A recent paper from Princeton’s Martin Gilens and Northwestern’s Benjamin Page is making a splash with the claim that they’ve assembled a data set (download) that shows the opinions of ordinary Americans have only a limited influence on actual policy outcomes. Here’s the key thesis (emphasis ours):

Ordinary Americans vs Elite Americans = Oligarchy

The fact that you make a division between 'ordinary' Americans and the Elite reinforces the theory that the American Gov't in practice is an Oligarchy. It is ran by two Aristocratic Families/Cartels that are known as Democrats and Republicans.

The Power behind these two Families/Cartels is the Central Bankers.

I think it is worth noting that Oligarchy is just another name for Serfdom and both are simply forms of Central Planning. Hayek shows that it is Central Planning (a few elite coercing the behaviors of millions) that is at the root of the issue. He also shows that Central Planning comes under many Monikers, including but not limited to; Socialism, Marxism, State Capitalism, Mercantilism, Fascism, Communism, etc.

When the political system becomes an avenue for people to get what they want, it will ALWAYS turn into Central Planning.

It is an Oligarchy, by your own definition

The very fact that the American people never have their interests served by this system, unless the Elites want or permit it to happen -- proves the point: It's an Oligarchy.

The Elites (private Banks, War profiteers, and multinational Corporations) are the point of all control (and the real benefactors).

The government exists merely to give you the illusion that some sort of "representative process" was followed.

In any event, as I said on the other OP introducing the study in question, all governments are oligarchies, notwithstanding the ostensible form they present, whether monarchy, autocracy, hierocracy, aristocracy or democracy.

There is a well worn saying attributed to Mayer Amschel Rothschild: "Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes the laws." This was actually very ingenuous because the entire purpose of acquiring the monopoly on the issuance of a nation's currency is to gain control of the legislative function and make all the laws. This then leads to the final fusion of State, Banking and Corporate power, with the money power in control, that we see everywhere in the world today. It is called Fascism.

This has always been the case, especially since the invention of private banking in the Assyrian Empire around the seventh century B.C. The bankers discovered that the safest and most profitable activity for them was to lend to the rulers, who sought to expand their territories through conquest, and this eventually gave the money lenders control of the government, albeit invisibly, which suited their purposes.

This incestuous relationship is the quintessence of corruption and it has applied throughout history in every civilisation. Lord Acton, the British historian and moralist said: ""Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." He said this in 1887, at a time in British history when the British Empire, during the reign of Queen Victoria, was at its zenith of power and was considered, at least by its people, to be the most moral, civilised and decent society on Earth. Such is the power of self deception through propaganda and education. There are many, many such examples in the world today, not least of course the United States of America, probably the most self deceived nation on the planet. No number of laws or regulations will change this since it arises from the very nature of men.

I watched the Aaron Russo documentary "America: From Freedom to Fascism" last week having watched it nine years ago. It is the film that woke me up finally to the real nature of the world system. This time it was even more powerful because I have learned much more since then and saw many things in the movie that I had missed on the first occasion. It is well worth watching for anyone who has not seen it or who has not viewed it for some time.

I think another attribute of man is the desire to be free and to innovate...meaning eventually man will innovate his way to becoming free. Its just a painfully slow process.

If this internet thing persists, then our combined knowledge will not disappear down the memory hole and the coming generations won't be fooled as easily and will make strides in individual liberty faster and easier.

Or at least that's my hope:)

Oligarchy by definition is the rule of the few over the many.

So long as man's nature remains corruptible, and this is inevitable as long as man remains mortal, all of the admittedly admirable qualities that you mention will be harnessed by the few for their own profit, at the expense of the many.

This leads to oppression, the destruction of the inventive genius or its misdirection into purely monetary pursuits, and the growth of cynicism (loss of faith) as the few by their nature go beyond reasonable measure and bring about the downfall of society to the impoverishment of the many.

There are always individual moments of light in this "tragic tale told by an idiot"* but the physical imperative of entropy, the moral mandate of degradation and the spiritual will to self destruction lead mankind ever downwards to his death.

My personal hope is in the great and precious promises of God:

May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. Every individual is utterly unique. Mankind is merely an aggregate of many different individuals. all the more reason to establish a system of law that does not give any group of men power over other men.

The process of individuation is still in its relative infancy.

In the beginning we are told that God created man in His own image, male and female He created them.

It is this differentiated personal image of God in each of us that is the source and justification of our belief in the uniqueness of each individual.

However the statement that God created Man in His own image is both a then present reality and an ongoing realisation of His purpose. He did indeed create the first Man, the first Adam, in His image inasmuch He breathed His Life into him. We are told He then drew the first Woman (Womb Man) from Adam. They were then united again in sexual union that became the foundation of the human family. This tells us that the complete person or individual, whether man or woman, contains both male and female characteristics, with one predominating, depending upon the sex of the individual. The two sexes are also complementary by design in order to enable both to individuate through interaction with one another.

The next step in human development into personal identity within a corporate whole was the shifting of the Man and the Woman into the lower animal realm after they were disconnected from God's Life for their disobedience to His express command not to eat of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Their disobedience was initiated by the Woman who is also the symbol for the soul of Man, his mind, will and emotions, that are most influenced by his physical desires. In other words she turned away from the influence of the Man, the symbol for the spiritual Identity of Man, the source of his connection with God and towards the influence of the Woman, his soulical Identity, the source of his connection with the physical or animal realm. She then induced Adam to also eat of the same fruit. The spiritual Identity of Man, thus disconnected from the Life of God, effectively died and condemned mankind, all the descendants of Adam, to Death, which now entered the cosmos of which we are all a part.

The Man and Woman, Adam and Eve, were now exiled from the Kingdom of God, the Garden of Eden and each was given a particular sentence or judgement or curse that would prevent them from having the harmonious relationship that would enable them to properly individuate and re-enter the Kingdom of God, achieving by their own efforts apart from God, what God has planned for them. This step itself was planned and arranged by God in order to place a responsibility upon Himself to recompense Man for the consequences of his disobedience, according to His own Law, which He revealed at a later time.

In the interim He simply promised them that He would bring forth from their descendants another perfect Man, a second Adam, who would reverse the curses that He had placed upon them and so enable them to re-enter the Kingdom of God. He did not spell out when this would happen but the Promise was passed down from generation to generation in one specific family line and grew into the expectation of a Messiah, or Anointed One, to come from the family of Judah, a son of Jacob, a son of Isaac, a son of Abraham who was specifically called by God in due time, to move to the Land of Canaan in order to prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah, the Seed of the Woman, the Son of God, who was to redeem mankind from the curse and deliver them from all the terrible consequences of the disobedience of the first Adam by re-uniting them with the Life of God in the Kingdom of God.

The subtle bestial spirit that, in accordance with the Plan of God, had tempted the Woman to eat of the forbidden fruit, was also cursed to live and move by his appetites (its belly) and to eat of the substance of Mankind and the minds of men (the dust of the ground) that were given to be under his control. Therefore the thoughts of Godless animal men and women are ruled by their own curses as well as the spiritual power that tempted them to follow their own physical and soulish desires rather than the command of God. This spiritual power, called the devil or satan, continues to influence the bestial nature of mankind and must feed on the fruits of his influence until such influence is no longer of any effect when he is utterly defeated by the Messiah and His Body, the mature sons of God,

This is also the time at which every human being who has ever been born will have been fully, spiritually, individuated and have received their true spiritual Identity as a member of the Body of Messiah and a mature son of God, having both male and female characteristics in perfect union in resurrected spiritual bodies. These sons of God will have inherited the Life of God in Messiah, the only conduit of this Life, and so do by nature what is righteous, according to the perfect will of God.

I have no scripture to back up my observations. Only a general understanding that God gave the individual free will. I will not argue scripture with you so nuking me with bible versus will not further the discussion. That said:

The value of the individual: Irreplaceable, utterly unique, and sacred.
• Thought, inspiration and innovations come only to the individual.
• The individual is the only nexus by which hidden potential can be made real; by which the unmanifest is made manifest.
• Totally unique in one’s ability to take in, prioritize and process information, each individual is irreplaceable.
• The individual is responsible for his actions because it is the individual's will alone that animates him.
- Groups are composed of individuals in communication with one another, each building upon one another’s individual attainments.
• Society is composed of individuals exchanging or combining one’s resources with another in order to fulfill each one’s desires.
- Once an individual is stolen from, killed, repressed or otherwise silenced, his contribution through exchange and charity is lost, and a precedent is set for other individuals to be likewise harmed.
