I refuse to subject my grandbaby to this...

I want to thank all of you out there who are home schooling and keeping your children away from these public indoctrination centers. I believe there are still a few good "public" schools but the number is declining quickly. I'll do everything possible to keep my fifteen month old granddaughter out of public schooling and articles like the following are a big part of the reason why.....

Raising Up Compliant Children in the American Police State
By John W. Whitehead

“[The aim of public education is not] to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence. . . . Nothing could be further from the truth. The aim . . . is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States…”—Henry Mencken, American Journalist (April 1924)

How do you persuade a nation of relatively freedom-loving individuals to march in lock step with a police state? You start by convincing them that they’re in danger, and only the government can protect them. Keep them keyed up with constant danger alerts, and the occasional terrorist incident, whether real or staged. Distract them with wall-to-wall news coverage about sinking ships, disappearing planes and pseudo-celebrities spouting racist diatribes. Use blockbuster movies, reality shows and violent video games to hype them up on military tactics, and then while they’re distracted and numb to all that is taking place around them, indoctrinate their young people to your way of thinking, relying primarily on the public schools and popular culture.

After all, public education the world over has always been the vehicle for statist propaganda of one sort or another, whether it’s religion, militarism, democracy or totalitarianism, and America is no exception. In fact, today’s public schools, far from being bastions of free speech, are merely microcosms of the world beyond the schoolhouse gates, and increasingly, it’s a world hostile to freedom.

As I show in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, within America’s public schools can be found almost every aspect of the American police state that plagues those of us on the “outside”: metal detectors, surveillance cameras, militarized police, drug-sniffing dogs, tasers, cyber-surveillance, random searches, the list goes on. Whether it takes the form of draconian zero tolerance policies, overreaching anti-bullying statutes, police officers charged with tasering and arresting so-called unruly children, standardized testing with its emphasis on rote answers, political correctness, or the extensive surveillance systems cropping up in schools all over the country, young people in America are first in line to be indoctrinated into compliant citizens of the new American police state.

Great online site for

information and moral support for homeschooling:

Thank you!

Hey thanks!

I haven't run across that yet. Sure appreciate it.

Edit: This is certainly a great site, but it has the same problem that nearly ALL home school sites have. There's always a 'Moms' or 'Mothers' section. Not sure why it can't just be a 'parents' section. Does the world just ASSuME that all home school parents are females? Last time I looked my private parts were still in the 'outie' category, and I'm sure there are many other home school 'teachers' who are mammary challenged.

If you home school

they will have a much better chance of paying off the debt they were born into.

But at least they

will know how to think independently and maintain their intelligence.

Great video for alternatives to homeschooling

Watched this today. Private Montessori schools are still great. Not too hip on the charter ones though, still have standardized testing

I'm SO glad I've decided to homeschool. I just wish that my siblings would decide to homeschool, as well, and find the means to accomplish it. I didn't realize how bad Common Core was until my sister called me and told me that her 6-year-old son is required to do double-digit addition. Required! He's going to be TESTED on it and everything! I hope I can convince her to opt-out of the testing. It's one thing if your child does math for fun. It's another matter entirely if your kindergardener is subject to rigorous testing on boring subjects.

Shoot! My son was doing that at 6, and more

but because he wanted to, not forced by testing fools to do it. He is being permitted to learn it at his own pace, and is doing quite well, even by Common Core standards. What would worry me more is if he were forced to learn the revisionist history likely to be taught..... But then, he is gifted in Math. I by no means endorse Common Core, the way they teach Math is horrendous, as evidenced by a post not too long ago made.

(BTW, appreciated the Thomas Paine quotes...)

Honestly as bad as common

Honestly as bad as common core is it's not what prompted me to feel this way and it wasn't the "militarization" of public schooling either. My opposition to public schooling came years ago from reading hundreds of stories like the one posted earlier about the black students attending Washington and Lee University who want Lee's name dropped from the school. They don't know the history behind the "civil" war and I would wager they also don't know anything of the federal reserve, the Gulf of Tonkin, etc.
