New: Rand Paul Introduces Stand with Israel Act of 2014

Bill ends foreign aid to Palestinian government

Apr 29, 2014
Sen. Rand Paul today introduced the Stand with Israel Act of 2014. This legislation halts all U.S. aid to the Palestinian government until they agree to a ceasefire and recognize the right of Israel to exist. The bill, S. 2265, can be found HERE and below:

"Today, I introduced legislation to make all future aid to the Palestinian government conditional upon the new unity government putting itself on the record recognizing the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state and agreeing to a lasting peace."

"Prohibition on Foreign Assistance.

(a) In General. Except as provided under subsection (b) and notwithstanding any other provision of law, no amounts may be obligated or expended to provide any direct United States assistance, loan guarantee, or debt relief to the Palestinian Authority, or any affiliated governing entity or leadership organization.

(b) Exception. The prohibition under subsection (a) shall have no effect for a fiscal year if the President certifies to Congress during that fiscal year that the Palestinian Authority has --
(1) Formally recognized the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state;
(2) Publicly recognized the state of Israel;
(3) Renounced terrorism;
(4) Purged all individuals with terrorist ties from security services;
(4) Terminated funding of anti-American and anti-Israel incitement;
(5) Publicly pledged to not engage in war with Israel; and
(6) Honored previous diplomatic agreements."

That is my point...

Ron agrees too...All of the world's problems are not our problems. We have enough already and we make things worse when we do get involved. Oh, and thank you for the name calling incident. It isn't appropriate. As a former vietnam vet and Marine Anglico troop, I've been called a lot worse than "shit for brains." Others have called me "the right man in the right place." "Quelle que soit..."

His point was that we should

His point was that we should care because our tax money goes their in the form of aid. The only thing I care about is ending aid and I don't care how it's done! Kudos to Rand for trying. He has a slew of bills to end aid in various countries for various reasons. People don't understand that he has introduced a plethora or bills to end aid to various countries but he has to present a reason to end it. The bills never pass but this bill is so significant...yet they refuse to see what he's doing. Rands a fucking genius!

Giving up the right of return

(1) Formally recognized the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state;

This goes far beyond recognizing Israel's right to exist. By explicitly conceding Israel as a "Jewish" state, the Palestinians will have effectively ended the right of return of the Millions of displaced Palestinians who were forced from their homes because they lived inside the 1948/67 borders of Israel.

This will also formalize Israel as a religious state, that can create laws that govern/discriminate based on if the citizens are Jewish or Not.

Sen Rand Paul is putting his name on the culmination of 50 years of ethnic cleansing.

Where's the dilemma

Rand Paul is a politician, a Republican politician, he is not a libertarian and has stated that on more than one occasion. His stance on many issues reflect that position. He has described himself as "libertarian leaning" in the past, but not so in more recent times.
As for 'playing the game', all politicians are 'playing the game' one way or another.
Should you wish to support a Republican politican, with possible libertarian leaning policies, who's loyalty lies with the Republican party, then he's your man.
Should you wish to support a libertarian, with libertarian views, then maybe you should look elsewhere.

Occam's Razor

Simplest explanation is that this is electioneering i.e. a$$ kissing.

Ventura 2012

Fixed that for ya, Rand old buddy.

This legislation halts all U.S. aid to the Palestinian government, the Israeli government and every other government on earth, permanently and without exception, forever.

Rand can kiss my ass.

Rand can kiss my ass.

He can?

So, you like men kissing your ass? How about Jesse Ventura? Would you let big Jesse kiss your ass? How about Bill O'Reilly? Can he kiss it? You let the pope kiss it? What about Prince Charles? How about Steven Tyler of Aerosmith on one cheek and Mick Jagger on the other? Both of them giving your ass a good working over with those big ol' lips of theirs....

Running for President

I don't agree with this move by Rand from a libertarian/philosophical/moral perspective, but I'd say he's probably playing politics. Just one more confirmation he will be running for President in 2016. It is sick, but unfortunately it is the reality of the United States of today, which has been infiltrated by a foreign government and a bunch of corporations and their cronies. He knows he won't get anywhere without playing politics with a particular segment of the influential population. Or do people prefer him to get nowhere near the nomination and get Hillary Clinton or Jeb Bush in 2016?

They're using him

He's his father's son, and in the minds of the neo-cons he will never be one of them. All this effort, just to be discarded when they're through with him.

It's a stealth strategy, blah, blah, stand with rand, please

It's a stealth strategy, blah, blah, blah, stand with rand please, pretty, please.

Please? Stand with Rand? Ohhhhh? Please, pretty? Please?

Let's watch this guy INCREASE Military Spending for Israel and...

Wisdom Strategies

If Rand sponsored a "Stand with 'Palestine' Act of 2014"

...there would be a bunch of up-votes...

I thought it was all about ending foreign aid, period?

This can certainly get the ball rolling.

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

Nope. It has nothing to do with spending.

Nothing to do with foreign interventionism. It has everything to do with being anti-Israel.

Anytime someone is pro-Jew or pro-israel around here, they get slaughtered. I can't stand the racist element of the liberty movement. If Israel were to publicly condemn the empire, and come out against foreign interventionism, retreat to the 1967 borders, recognize the state of Palestine, and someone were to post it here on the daily Paul, he would get down voted to smithereens.

I am not all about being pro the state of Israel, just like I am not about being pro Saudi Arabia, or pro USG, or any of them, but just like the people in this country are not all evil, neither are the people in Israel, and finally (I can't believe that I have to say this on a libertarian website) Just because someone is Jewish, that doesn't mean they are bad people!!!!

Me, Fonz, KevinK and some others are pro-Israel

The difference: We don't sound like jack-booted Netanyahu/Likud lovin morons. We also don't get downvoted into oblivion.

You don't speak for everyone who is pro-Israel. Not everyone who likes Israel has to support the occupation/Israeli settlers.

Quit trying to speak for everyone. Ya don't. Get over yourself, you ain't all that important just a schmuck like everyone else.

Whoa, whoa...

I am certainly not pro Israel. I also do not claim to speak for anyone who is. As a matter of fact I hate israel(if we are talking the Israeli government). I have a huge problem with the occupation and am disgusted by the systemic racism in the country.

I just see Israel the way I see all nation states. I feel for the people of Palestine. Not for Hammas or the PLA. I am a fan of ending bloodshed, and instituting a system of decentralized government based around private property rights and the NAP.

That's all. The people of Palestine are inconsequential to the rulers of Israel and Palestine alike.

Ah ok, I misunderstood

I used to be quite fond of Israel, still try to be but the past couple of governments have been brutal.

Gone are the days of Rabin, Perez, Barak, when Israel had no small amount of respect and seemed to be honestly seeking peace. Arafat was an idiot not to accept the peace deal with Barak.

Now it's the opposite, we have a moderate Palestinian leader and an Israeli leader who has no intention of making peace.

Now Netanyahu seems only determined to cling to power and placate his minority coalition.

His dismantling of the left and forcing orthodox Jews into military service is two big steps toward fascism in my opinion.

There isn't really a racist element to the 'liberty movement'

...there are just a bunch of internet trolls who go out in groups to spread neo-Nazi propaganda...

I wouldn't be surprised if it is government disinfo agents. There were never this many all over the web like there are now.

Repeat a lie often enough...

So people hear a bunch of people saying the same things over and over and they eventually believe it. But the disinfo trolls will never allow the opposing facts and point of views to be heard, or points taken, no matter how objective and unbiased.

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

I get so surprised when i see the comments here

From people who have quite frankly earned my respect. There is racism here. And bigotry. Much like that of the criminal justice system. Not overt racism like that of the pre-civil rights era. The systemic racism of anti-political correctness.

People get so worked up about political correctness that they will rationalize the most insane justifications for bigotry. People don't recognize that just because people should have the right to be a bigot, doesn't mean they should be.

Then there is the systemic racism of the whole Israel issue. Israel is a horrible government who is tyrannical and psychotic and evil. Newsflash: so is every other state on the planet. But because Israel is constantly defended by statists in the country, we feel we have to attack it to the point where its citizens lose their humanity.

I would make the case that cops would largely not self identify as being racist. I would make the same case about the courts. Yet black and minorities make up a super majority in our prisons.

I am sure that the anti-Israel reverse reverse racists don't recognize that they are not being guided by principle, but that does make it any less true.

You are right, I want all

You are right, I want all foreign aid ended. But anything is a step in the right direction.

i don't think

this really has much to do with aid. why palestine? why not ecuador? vietnam? etc political football is the more obvious ploy.

There is a saying in

There is a saying in politics,"take care of the tough part in the title". If we could get a non-interventionist foreign policy, all this tiptoeing through bull would just go away.

This is so smart neo cons

This is so smart neo cons don't even know what to think or do :)

don't kid yourself

they weren't born yesterday. they know exactly what he's up to. they'll even play along if it benefits their agenda.

SteveMT's picture

This is so smart the non-neocons also don't know what to do.

Rand has out smarted both sides of the fence with this strategy. Neither side knows what to make of it. They nullify each other.

Neocons +10

non-neocons -10
add them together = 0
nullifying the neocons is good :)

Maybe the fence isn't where you think it is, or want it to be...

...Not everyone who supports libertarian, constitutional conservative policies in America hate Israel...

This is good place to start cutting foreign aid, or otherwise get the government to butt out of other nations' business.

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

I disliked it at first glance yesterday

But I like how specific the language is. I think about where this bill might lead.

1. None of the items on this bill are bad things. Renounce terrorism? Publicly state not to declare war? I don't know, if they don't agree to that, then what are we giving them aid for anyway?

2. Rand has also clearly stated he wants to end foreign aid to Israel gradually over time.

3. Rand has also tried to end foreign aid to Egypt, and he is also against foreign aid to Pakistan I believe.

Still not sure how to take this, definitely deserves further thought. If this binds Hamas as well with the new unity agreement, it might really jump start things. Hamas has shown in the past they are good at honoring ceasefires when they are willing.

If this goes through it would put one hell of a lot of pressure on Netanyahu, and he is under extreme pressure already.

Kerry's remark was behind closed doors at the trilateral commission. That is the creme de la creme of the powers that be.

Two schools of thought are at odds

It seems this thread can be generalized and divided into two camps:

1) Rand's actions are immoral.
2) Rand's actions are good politics.

I can't help but wonder what this says about the nature of government and the effect it has on humanity.

If men are good, you don't need government; if men are evil or ambivalent, you don't dare have one.

Those two camps aren't at odds

They are simpatico! Good politics is immoral.
