White House opens door to tolls on interstate highways, removing long-standing prohibition

With pressure mounting to avert a transportation funding crisis this summer, the Obama administration Tuesday opened the door for states to collect tolls on interstate highways to raise revenue for roadway repairs.

The proposal, contained in a four-year, $302 billion White House transportation bill, would reverse a long-standing federal prohibition on most interstate tolling.

Just wait....

Once they start with the "smart pass" for your car. Than you will know its there to stay. Not only that but will make tracking of your travel that much easier

But wait, I thought our income tax dollars paid for the roads..?

... You mean it doesn't?

This is what the crash will

This is what the crash will probably look like.

Many people think that it will be sudden, with one day being normal and the next day mayhem.

I think it's more likely that it will be a slow and gradual squeeze upon society.

No more bankruptcy protection for (government) student loans, new cigarette taxes (most smokers are lower income), forced healthcare expenditures or suffer a tax, people being held responsible for their relatives tax problems, new federal road taxes/tolls, etc.

There's much more and still even more to come. Even social security, over a span of maybe 3 years, went from projected solvency into the 2080s to now only projecting solvency until the 2020's.

Like I said, it won't be sudden. But years from now (maybe just a few more years) people will start to wake up a bit and then will say 'what the heck happened to America?'

The US gov is going broke and they are desperate to slow down the process.

...

wtf are they doing with that

wtf are they doing with that gas tax they hit us with on every gallon of gas? Oh and blow bridges and roads over seas and fix them for free but they can't fix ours over here. IT IS PAST TIME FOR A FULL OUT TAX REVOLT.

You're right. It's sickening

You're right. It's sickening that the gov will destroy foreign infrastructure then rebuild it at our expense.

Free for everyone else, but send us the tax bill to pay for it all.

Gotta wonder which top gov official's relatives are getting rich off of rebuilding foreign infrastructure that our military was used to destroy.

The Toll Gnomes

Step 1. Collect tolls

Step 3. Profit!

WTF O.o?

OK. So they collect taxes why?

The gov is going broke and is

The gov is going broke and is getting desperate. This is just an example of that desperation.

Isn't it wonderful

Not only do you have to pay taxes to drive on the roads, and gas taxes to drive on the roads, and registration taxes to drive on the roads, now you'll also have to pay toll taxes to drive on the roads all of the previous taxes have already paid for. BUT WAIT! There's more. You'll be paying these new tolls to foreign countries because your state will sell your roads to these entities so you'll end up with these new taxes for fifty years ... which basically means for the rest of your life.

First, they collect tolls ...

... then the tolls must be paid by electronic means, not by cash. Then, they track your movement.

That is what it is all about. Sell the roads to China? Sure, why not? They don't care about that. They ONLY care about control.

A transportation funding "crisis" ...

... eh? For a government that is $17 trillion in debt ($150 trillion including unfunded liabilities)? For a government that routinely raises the mythical debt limit? For a government that routinely prints money and does not disclose where it goes?

Yeah, sure. One department has a funding "crisis." Couldn't be an ulterior motive, could it? Nah.
