"Ron Paul CAN'T win"
I don't agree with this, but as I tried to convinced my girlfriend's mom and stepdad to vote for Ron Paul, that was the first thing out of their mouth.
Of course this is MSM's characterization of him that they're spewing back to me. So it got me thinking, which is of course always dangerous.
A response of 'that might be true, but you should vote for him on principle anyways' just seems like a weak answer.
Instead the answer that came to me was:
'No, you're wrong. Ron Paul will win, the question is whether or not he'll win in time to get the GOP nomination. That six hundred dollar rebate, what good is it if the prices on everything goes up? How much extra did you get in your social security check to pay for rising gas prices? What about your medical costs? The rest of the candidates won't cut your social security dollars to pay for the war. They are too afraid to do that. Instead, they'll use inflation to pay for it. Everyday people are waking up and realizing what's being done to them. Once someone has woken up, you can't put them back to sleep. Ron Paul's numbers are growing every day. He will win because it is inevitable. You will realize it to. The question is, will you realize it in time to vote for him.

YOU MUST CONVINCE YOUR GIRLFRIENDS PARENTS THAT.....
the Primaries are the time to vote your conscience / The General Election is the time to vote the lesser of two evils (that is of course unless Dr. Paul is the GOP nominee).
Winning Team Response
It is no doubt a common response to hear. "Ron Paul can't win." or "Too bad he won't win."
It seems as if they are saying that they would vote for Ron Paul but will not because he won't win. Amazingly this fallacy in logic escapes even the most highly educated people.
Here's my response:
"Oh, thats interesting. So you vote according to who is going to win. What if you don't agree with their policies?"
'Too bad he won't win' is a silly response in light of what they are really saying, "I vote for who I think will win, because I only vote for winners and don't care what they stand for."
Most people who say this consider themselves contrarian because they think they agree with Ron Paul on something. Use that against them. If you are against the mainstream then why vote mainstream? Doesn't that make you mainstream?
Food for thought.
Vote Ron Paul.
Realistic Objectives
Let me first be crystal clear: I'm a Paul fan. Although I'm a registered Democrat, Paul has an undeniable appeal, which is no doubt a credit to his unifying potential.
But with the primary season in full swing, things aren't looking good for the Texas Congressman. Although his online following is bigger than any of the candidates, and his popularity with young people is undeniable, his showings in the early primary states have been very disappointing.
My question is this: is it realistic now to think that he can still take the White House? At this point, what would Ron Paul consider a victory?
Who are to be the electors of the federal representatives?
What's the purpose of a representative democracy if a certain candidate or set of candidates are mysteriously divined (apparently through an unnamed process of groupthink) as "unelectable" or incapable of winning the election? Is it just for show? Is it just a beauty pageant? What is an election if not a process whereby the people (in a perfect world) select their preferred representatives? Are the people's preferred representatives to be chosen from a nondescript, predetermined list?
Apparently we have forgotten the words written down by our Founding Fathers in the Federalist Papers:
If we followed the logic of so many goose-steppers (which is one logical conclusion of the domination of our public discourse by the Corporate Military Industrial Media) that know in their hearts that certain candidates cannot win, we'd have a form of proto-Stalinism here in America. Of course, this is what we are approaching.

fix your thread title!
Add quotes, so it doesn't look like you're asserting that Ron Paul can't win. We need to be smart about the messages we send. Make your titles positive if at all possible; never make a title out of just a negative claim stated as a fact.

'I always thank of all you canvassors and precinct leaders and delegates who were at the front line and caucuses.
Good luck out there &Thank you. You're a gift.
I am so delighted and
I am so delighted and privileged to be part of this revolution and even though we are fewer in number than some of the other campaigns we are much more dedicated to this message. This is why I hope that all the precinct leaders and supporters continue to stay strong even after this election and that we do not dismantle. I have heard a lot about the organizations of the other campaigns but the reason for that is because they have started way before us. However we need to continue growing our leaders to cover all the precincts and not give up because four years is not that long of a time. So if someone other than Dr. Paul gets the nomination this time - the rest of America will be able to see the problems that we have been talking about in our platform. However within four years our organization will be ready to take on the MSM and these other campaigns - and we will not be laughed at or ignored !
Tell 'em they've been BRAINWASHED by the MSM...

No other Republican
Can beat the current crop of Democrats (either one, but especially Obama, who is VERY smart). People want to parrot what "experts" say about Dr. Paul's chances, but it's only an excuse for not thinking for themselves. When a Republican loses and I say "I told you so, Ron's the only Republican who had a chance, which is why the media pushed RINOs & you bought it hook, line and sinker" they'll hate my guts, but who cares at that point?

What about your medical
What about your medical costs? The rest of the candidates won't cut your social security dollars to pay for the war. They are too afraid to do that. Instead, they'll use inflation to pay for it.
Excellent point! I'm stealing that when I talk to older folks who give me that line, if ya don't mind!

"Do you want him to win?"
"Why don't you do something?!"
If everyone who said that...
"If everyone who said that would actually vote for Dr. Paul, he would win by a landslide." I like to shove that back in their face...in a polite and gentlemanly way, of course!

Show them the 2007 Kentucky Derby
Show them the first 1/2 of the race... And see if they REALLY want to bet on "Hard Spun" or "Countdown Cat" Tell them YOUR money is on Street Sense (horse 2nd from the back) and then... well you'll see!
This is why its so important to be a Precinct Leader and CANVAS!
People believe that he can't win and plan on voting for a "viable" candidate. When people who believe the message hear it from their friends and then hear it from people who are actually taking ACTION, they begin to see the truth...that RP CAN WIN! But it doesn't happen automatically, it takes all of us walking precincts and making it happen!
Yes, and Dewey was unbeatabe, so
all you Trumanites, simply vote for Dewey, because you are wasting your vote to do otherwise.
"Be wary of those who know the truth. Align yourself with those who are questing for the truth." L. Gardner
its the primary who cares
right now they probably will go to the convention and broker a deal.
Even if Ron looses this is a perfect no loose chance to get the issues you care about represented by Ron.
They cant loose this is not the general election...vote your issues always in the primary.
Vote your party in the general is the cardinal rule of both sides.
Principle is not weak
You were correct to tell your parents to vote on principle. This is not a football game for crying out loud! This is an election of our president, and his principle and virtue is the most important characteristic. Anything other than voting on principle is "strategic" voting, which means you are not casting a vote FOR someone, but rather AGAINST someone. This is exactly how we ended up with the last 3 administrations. The elite are counting on us to vote strategically. They engineered this system a long time ago.
The question of "electability" should never enter into the decision of which candidate to vote for.

I didn't not mean voting of
I didn't not mean voting of principle is weak, just a weak argument for the average uneducated voter.
I don't know why people think they have to vote for a 'winner', but they do. I'm just looking for the best argument to 'wake them up' and get their vote. If I first have to convince them that it's okay to vote on principle, and then convince them to vote for Ron Paul, that's two steps. If I can convince them that Ron Paul's a winner then RP's got their vote.
I'm realizing that when talking to someone if the first thing they say is, RP can't win, that they are a potential vote. Because that's their whole argument for not voting for him!
just say if he does not win
just say if he does not win you lose. because he is the only one who is working for the people. RP CAN WIN!!!!
He needs to win, we need him
He needs to win, we need him to win.... and that $600 check, is now $500 !! Then I hear on MSNBC, expected national Gas average by June, $3.50- $4.00
What's $500 gonna do but extend the fundamental problem!
"Ron Paul" will win eventually, his message is strong and it is a revolution. Either he'll be president soon and we'll have fixed and avoided many problems, or things will get far worse, people will slowly wake up and a real revolution will happen. Hopefully Hillary or Obama haven't disarmed and v-chipped us all by that point. Things need fundamental overhauls in the country!
Get same reaction
My husband and I have talked to people that say they agree with Ron Paul, but are not willing to vote for him because he can't win. We say, if everybody does that he won't win. But, if everybody that feels he is the best candidate votes for him he will WIN!! Most people are spewing out what the MSM has told htem, not even giving thought to their own feelings.
Just remind them
That is ok to think in the general election. But now in the primary is not the time to think that. Now is the time to vote the best man period.
If...
If not Ron Paul, then who?
If not Ron Paul now, when?
Glad you asked...
When, not who...I was just thinking that myself...will the good Doctor be an even better candidate in 2012, after 4 years of the Dems and god knows what mess we'll be in...I don't see how the Republicans pull it off this year. A lot of people I know have already crossed the isle and voted for Dems in the primaries. The Libertarians (myself) will find some way to protest against the Republicans in power. The moderates will be split between McCain and the Democrat nominee. The democrats will vote for democrats. And the evangelicals will stay home (if we are lucky). Any third party or Independent will further cripple the GOP. We have already seen the republican base dissolve in 2006.
In response to "can Ron win in '08?" No. He is not going to be president in '08. He knows that. We ought to know that as well. But the question is can the message win. That fight does not end in November. Dr. Paul is the messenger. For that he has already won. We have started the movement. We cannot expect to see the true effects of revolution on the future of American polotics after 12 months. A revolution takes years. America will reach a crossroads. Fortunately we have the answers to our problems. Peace, commerce and honest friendship. I will continue to fight for that as long as I live. We cannot blame past generations for the problems that we inherit, we can only blame ourselves if we do not learn from their mistakes.
When one single person hears and embraces
Dr. Paul's message, we win. When the message is spread to another individual, we win again. It took a long time and a great deal of dedicated effort for the enemies of liberty to incrementally erode our Constitution. It is going to take at least that much effort and time to win it back. They did not discourage and neither can we.
