DEA Says It Will Ignore President Obama's Wishes During Congressional Hearing on Marijuana Policy

by David Downs — Wed, Apr 2, 2014

Imagine if a vice-president at Google told Congress she thought that company CEO Larry Page was doing a bad job, and that the rank-and-file employees at Google aren’t going to listen to the boss. How long would it take to fire that gal?

Well, the clock’s ticking on Drug Enforcement Administration Chief Michele Leonhart. She's saying her anti-marijuana agency is “fighting back” against White House instructions to focus on heroin and OxyContin deaths, and leave alone lawful cannabis activity in Colorado and Washington.

"[President Obama’s instructions] make us fight harder”, Leonhart told a House Appropriations subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies today.

The meeting was not webcasted, but Dan Riffle with the Marijuana Policy Project wrote us that Leonhart also lied to Congress, stating that Coloradans no longer endorse legalization.

As a Coloradan I can assure

As a Coloradan I can assure everyone that Coloradans love legalization and that that bitch is full of shit.

I'm sorry, I thought I remembered Obama laughing about something like this at some silly dinner the other night.

Oh wait, he did and he called me paranoid for believing exactly what is happening right now.

sounds like that Chief

needs to smoke a joint and relax.

If Obama does nothing, then the WH & DEA are in collusion.

Obama will have his plausible deniability that he isn't the one being the marijuana attack dog. Yet, he will let this DEA bitch do her thing and go after the marijuana people while letting the deaths accumulate from Oxycontin and heroin. This clear contradiction between a superior and a subservient government agency is premeditated collusion. It's more WWF kabuki theater.

OF COURSE they are in collusion...

Does anyone actually think this is anything other than a PR move?

This is to make Obama look sympathetic to the pro-cannabis population while at the same time passing off the blame...

Are you a POT or a PET - Person Embracing Tyranny?

If they followed the law, instead of the president, CONSISTENTLY

that might even be a good thing.

But of course they break the law all the time when the president asks, except here when it would actually be the right thing to do.

And in any case of course they got the word that they are supposed to ignore the white house on this from the white house itself.

Now it's stupid for the DEA to go along because it makes Obama look good and them look bad. If the DEA ever does get shuttered (good thing) it will be because they didn't protect their own rears on things like this. Not that I will feel bad about them.

END THE DEA! They are a den of vipers and snakes. Probably one of the most corrupt organizations in our Republic. Do you really think they destroy ALL the drugs they steal? Of course not. Most of them are resold to help pad the black budgets.

this is great

all barry has to do to stop this is to have holder reclassify mj to a lower schedul where it belongs. the way i understand it is the ag has the power to reschedule drugs and does not require congress having to sign off or do anything.
the whole csa is unconstitutional anyway. if you want to take americans rights to use drugs away under the constitution you must first pass a constitutional amendment like the 18th amendment (alcohol prohibition) which was unconstitutional itself according to marbury v madison.
