Should governments create a DNA database of all citizens?

From my perspective, a DNA database should be established with information from all citizens to improve the safety of society. In my opinion, it shouldn’t replace conventional criminal investigations, but be used to aid in the gathering of suspects for a crime so that the process leading up to interrogation is rapid. I believe that the benefits of using the database outweigh the potential negatives. It may be an invasion of freedom, but saving lives through preventing crime is surely a higher priority. Criminals shouldn’t be able to walk free from a crime without having faced justice; otherwise the integrity and welfare of society will diminish.

in 2nd Amendment

If you actually NEED security, we have police and home security. If we do not take a look at the Second Amendment and make some changes to it, or repeal it, then nothing is ever going to change. We will keep having random shootings in campuses, malls, schools, and streets. Doesn't this worry you? It worries me."

That's two!!! Usually people troll from the comments and not the posts JJ! You truly are a forward thinking innovator!

Should they get your DNA? They have never asked your permission.

Government is already collecting, voluntarily, DNA samples from all of the newborns (born in hospitals).

So they have all the DNA for all the young people and all the future newborns.

The way to cirmuvent it is for a family member to be present at birth and to be sure that nobody takes any samples from newborn and one more thing ( you have to figure it out yourself).

Alternative is to have a birth at home.

Gotta be one of the creepiest posts ever.
So the government gets your DNA and then they replicate it or grow it or whatever they can do with it then the moment you do/say anything they don't like they smear your DNA at some crime scene and you're snatched for good.

And I'm sure the data would

And I'm sure the data would not be used to track and log your daily whereabouts and activities to build a bigger file on you, nor to blackmail, harass ex-lovers, or anything of the sort. It would only be used to find a real criminal. Our government has such a clean track record of using data on citizens appropriately. You know what, count me in, this sounds like a win-win.

Could a post get any dumber...?

..." it's a match"...

..."but...but...how do I know that is mine...I was nowhere near there?"

..."because we said so...that's how..."

Wha? .....hey....who stole my country?

Your priorities suck.

I actually didn't need to read past "Should government. . ." before deciding that the proper answer is "no."

Government should not -- anything. The murderous, freedom-eating monster should not exist at all. Once upon a time it was sold to us with the catchy phrases like "to secure these rights (to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness), Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed." According to the advertising, we need government to safeguard our liberty.

Liberty, not safety, is the alleged purpose of government. Yeah. See how well that worked out. Somewhere along the line, liberty got shuffled off to the side as special interests squabbled over who could use the magical "government" machine to force his neighbors to pay for his favored causes. People like you want government to make us all safe. Or healthy. Or educated or fed or free from pornography, unlicensed manicurists, raw milk, terrorists, and the bogeyman.

I don't want government to keep me safe. I DO value my liberty -- but government has proven conclusively that it cannot be trusted with it. Government eats liberty, and defecates things like "safety" and other favors for special interests.

Only thing I would add is

Only thing I would add is that there should be gates and fences everywhere, and only the police have any weapons of any kind. Even fists would be amputated at birth. Safety First.
