Santorum Laughs Off Libertarian Critics During Heated Clash on The Independents

Mediaite:

In case you missed it: Rick Santorum appeared on The Independents on Thursday evening.

The former GOP senator doesn’t like the libertarian insurgency among young voters; he’s been quite clear about it in recent months. And so if you were to guess that his time with FBN’s libertarian show was a heated, frothy mess of moralistic posturing, then you would be correct.

Santorum's opposition is a gift that keeps on giving

The more Rick defines his differences with constitutional libertarian views, while the GOP Titanic is sinking and imploding in voter opinion polls, the better Rand looks and sounds to the voting public, eh?

That Independants Show is a horrible Bore! I can't watch it.

And I don't enjoy it.

And you would think I would love it, since I've been a libertarian since the age of 18 back in 1980.

So what is wrong with it?

Its Reason, Its Cato, and its so PC. There is nothing "in depth" about the "show" at all. Its all Copycat.

Notice how Kennedy interrupts Rick Santorum? Is that any way different than Sean Hannity? Its not a conversation. Its NOT an intellectual conversation. Its not "nice", its SMUG. A real conversation involves REALLY listening and REALLY understanding.

Bill Moyers at least could listen and in the end, understand where Ron Paul was coming from (or any of his guest). Watch any of his interviews with Ron Paul and see for yourself.

Now watch Kennedy & her "PC Group Think Independents". These pukes do not seek to understand, and they never ever listen. Oh but they do listen to "spin". They are "spin artists" in the same sick vain as is Hannity, O'Reilly, on the Right and Randy Rhodes, Thom Hartman on the Left.

Triple Barf! Barf on these copy cats! We don't need spin artists, just the principles offered, explained and applied.

If libertarians wanted to copy any show format (because they couldn't think of an original one?), then they should copy THE DAILY SHOW with John Stewart. Give the news, then point out the hypocrisies, get a laugh. And it would be EASIER for libertarians to do this. Poor John Stewart has to overlook liberal hypocrisies 9 out of 10 times for his audience which is basically PC liberal (or is that redundant?). A libertarian themed news "Daily Show" would have no problem poking holes in Sean Hannity Insanity AND Rachael Maddow.

Most of all, these 'independents' are all "PC libertarians" and "libertarian-lites" who did NOT support the R3VOLUTION one bit. No these Gary Johnson lovers want to offer up LP-PC dinner plate.

Well F**K that! We Re-branded Liberty OUTSIDE of the LP with the R3VOLution and took it mainstream.

These libertarian-PC-lites are the EXACT one's who think of us, you and me,(at the DP, Mises, Lew Rockwell, the R3VOLution, AJ, etc) as 'racist', 'sexists', 'anti-semetics'. Question: Did these libertarian-PC-lites come to Ron Paul's aid by placing all those "racist comments" from the leftist TNR back into full context? No, not in your life! These abortion firsters, these gay firsters & female firsters 'PC-libertarians' MORE than delighted in announcing "Ron Paul's Racist Past" to the world and always referring to his investment newsletters as those "racist newsletters", (as if racism was the topic, not investments). Did Reason Mag place TNR's 33 outtakes back into context? Hell no.

And Rick Santorum correctly smells the liberal stench coming off these people. And just what is that stench? Its the stench of the "already Convinced". The stench of the "I've got all the answers". The stench of "I care more than you & so there is nothing I can learn from you".

And it stinks. Most of all, it fails to convince ANYBODY. And why is that? Because you can't teach if you first don't LISTEN & UNDERSTAND where the other is coming from. Applying malicious motives to everyone who opposes you, is evidence of failing to listen & understand.

This stench is the reason WHY the LP never raised $6 million in one day let alone in one presidential race, ever. It is this "PC morally certain stench" that stops them from applying their own libertarian principles to the issue of abortion, and arrive at a uniquely reasoned libertarian position that is neither Pro-Life or Pro-Choice. It is why these libertarian-PC-lites cannot decipher the difference between "stating a fact", "racist comment", "just stating a common generality", and being a "bigot".

(1) Marcus plays basketball & is really fast and is black.
(2) Marcus plays basketball & is really fast and black people like him should not be allowed to legally play.
(3) Marcus plays basketball & is really fast because they usually grow up that way.
(4) Marcus is black and I don't like those kind of people.

Hint to PC libertarian-lites reading this: The Answers are NOT "they are all racist!". The answers are: (1) stating a fact, (2)racist comment (calls for legal separation/expulsion), (3)just stating a common generality that may or may not be factually true (4) being a bigot. Now if #4 had said, "Marcus is black and I don't like those kind of people AND HE/THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED" .....then it would cross the bigot threshold & become a racist statement; ie baring someone because of race is racism, simply disliking them because of race is bigotry.

Archie Bunker was a bigot, not a racist. Hitler was a racist. Such distinctions are very important, for the PC police are so busy now spreading the "racist" slander so far and wide that the danger is it becomes meaningless. Indeed, many people say foolish things such as "everybody is a racist, even it is just in a small way" when they really should say, "everybody is a bigot, even it is just in a small way". With the SPLC & TNR and many others out there firing the "racist" charge to ANYTHING they as liberals, don't like, the danger grows that few even know what real racism is. PC-liberals and PC-libertarians by default, are smearing millions of innocents and thousands of innocent companies, and getting away with it. Meanwhile real libertarians define their terms, state clearly what the terms mean and don't mean, and champion human liberty, period.

But Political Correctness is all about BLURRING concepts & meaning, and then using that to install the liberal program. PC-libertarianism is something we should all avoid like the plaque. We champion the individual, individual rights to life, liberty, and property for all people equally and universally. Moreover, just as we take liberty seriously, we take the flip side just as seriously, Taking Personal Responsibility for YOUR Actions. And just as we take private property seriously, we take the flip side just as seriously, Personal Privacy. PC-libertarian-lites don't get or simply ignore the flip side to these principles when it comes to Abortion (taking responsibility for your actions) and non-PC thoughts or beliefs that do not champion women, gays, etc (personal privacy issues).

PC-Libertarian-lites are riding our Ron Paul R3VOLution coattails. We need our own national TV show.

A better show awaits us... lets make it happen.

Oh Ricky, what a pity, you don't understand,

You might be laughing now, but the last laugh goes to Rand.

Rick Santorum said "conservativism" is not an

an "ideology" but taking what (he believes) has worked in the past (to create the greatest country in the world) and applying those principles to the present. What he's not admitting is that actions *inherently* reflect an ideology.

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.
~ John Muir

It's soooo

pathetic that he's going to run again. The GOP just throws them out as punching bags, for all to laugh and be distracted.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

Right back at you Ricky.

What a stupid segment Nothing

What a stupid segment

Nothing but social issues

If they really wanted to bury this clown and expose him for what he truely is, they should have brought up his seriously flawed foreign policy and progressive fiscal policy

The Independents are Alex Wagner 2.0

On the flip side,

it shows that Santorum aka Frothy doesn't address facts when attacking another party/candidate. He just spouts off complete nonsense that he believes Mainstream America will relate to.

Perfect example: Santorum truly believes Ron Paul is an isolationist in regards to Foreign Policy. And we all know how wrong he is, yet, he uses that specific word intentionally.

Santorum is a sleaze ball that will appeal to the highest bidder.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

If Frothy

runs that clap-trap in the debates, he will get boooed out of the place. Can't wait for that.

Santorum's ideas are naturally fading. This is a good step towards the fading of ignorance.

The fact that a population of homosexuals cannot populate the Earth is irrelevant. That is a given to any logical person. The reality remains: homosexuals comprise a small portion of the population. Always have and always will. A species does not propagate what does not reproduce. Only straight men and women can populate the Earth(except for the ones that have surrogates, or the lesbians have a sperm donor{only then may a single part of the duo will have a genetic relationship with the offspring}), which means... unfortunately for the illogical group, heterosexuals create homosexuals in the LARGE majority of individuals in a population.

Hopefully, this fact is not lost on the majority.

I hope Rick finds true happiness

“The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants.” — Albert Camus

I will say this right up front.

I am somewhat sympathetic to Santorum's professed views regarding marriage from both a theological and a naturalistic perspective. A society that does not procreate is a society that dies out and is taken over by people that do, and reducing marriage to a simple contractual relationship does rob the "family" dimension of its inherent definition.

Having said that, Caesar is the last person that you want trying to convince people to raise up future generations, because he will use them for his own ends, as expounded upon in 1 Samuel 8 (http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/1-Samuel-Chapter-8/). When the state is trying to step into the business of procreation, it is primarily because the population has rejecting the concept of policing their own lives to the extent necessary to maintain the nation, and while state intervention may come at a point of necessity, it will always come with disastrous results for those who are both moral and independent.

Santorum represents tyranny, and tyranny rises in appeal in times of moral and economic decay, primarily because it promises swift reform. It is a foreign invasion by an outside ideology that is altogether alien to what the colonists had hoped to set up, and I would argue that it has been allowed to thrive primarily because of some inherent flaws in how this nation was Constituted after the rejection of the Articles of Confederation.

I don't think he would have

I don't think he would have been clearer if he held up a giant sign saying, "Don't vote for me!"

You don't own conservatism or the GOP.

Many (L)(l)ibertarians are conservative.

This guy needs to go away already.

Funny, I laughed this guy off ....

A VERY LONG TIME AGO!

I do not support this guy, never will support this guy and hopefully any one with a functioning brain will realize the same.

Ayatollah Santorum

I had to stop watching.

Right before the 2012 presidential elections, I had a conversation with a neighbor who is an attorney and teaches constitutional history. Let's call him Joe. I said so Joe, who are you voting for? Santorum he said. Who are you voting for? I said I was writing in Ron Paul's name. He said I was wasting my vote. That I should vote for someone who could win. To which I replied, I am.

I could live with "He was

Another point.....

I wonder why we couldn't do away with churches and families if government is to be responsible for our behavior?

Maybe he will be putting religion out of business - somewhat ironic.

And he said marriages are for raising kids, but why? The police will keep our kids off drugs, right?

Why can't people get across these points.....

Libertarians don't believe you can do anything you want. You cannot hurt other people, and you should accept the consequences of your actions. Instead, we use endless gov't to PREVENT bad behavior, and if it occurs, we protect people from the consequences through an assortment of programs.

I would also like them to ask him if he would be willing to list his personal behavior so they could determine if it was all acceptable, or whether we should have thugs (police) show up and correct him.

Surely he could tell us all about his diet, his time spent lounging, his sleep schedule, his sexual habits, etc, etc. Of course, he would reply that it's none of our business, but isn't that the point?

Or he would say those are not the important issues, but what if the majority decides they are important? I mean, there is an obesity epidemic, with an epidemic of diabetes, etc. Healthcare costs soaring, millions dying prematurely, so why not have a War on Obesity, with mandatory diet reviews?

If he can use the force of government to control our lives, why can't the same be used against him? I mean, when the majority decides that religion is bad for us, then according to him, we can eliminate it, right?

Whose is dumb, and who is dumber?

With three idiots against one, it's difficult to say who had the advantage. Santorum kept his cool during this "interview", so he wins by default.

These Fox Business Independents need to look at these stories. They apply to them.

Really. It pains me that she

Really.
It pains me that she calls herself libertarian.

She's just a bit-c-h and moan attack dog. No class.
Just gotchya', gotchya', gotchya'!

SteveMT's picture

She's is an "attack-dog libertarian;" that term is oxymoronic.

She just gave libertarianism a bad name. Both Kennedy and Santorum are hung-up on social issues to the exclusion of everything else. Neither seem to know about the 10th Amendment.
Agree with you, Baracuda. I wouldn't want any part of libertarianism if this interview was my introduction.

Please explain

Why do you say the hosts are idiots? It's a serious question. I want to understand what you mean by this. Thanks.
